Protecting Your Children from COVID and Winter Illnesses


Imagine a situation, in which your 10-year-old complains of sore throat late in the night. You monitor their temperature along with other symptoms, and comfort them by saying “let’s see how you feel in the morning. If you do not feel better, we shall visit the doctor.”


Getting Your Child Tested for COVID-19 If your child experiences the below symptoms, it is recommended to get their PCR COVID-19 test done and isolate them in one room until the result comes: • A fever of 37.5℃ or more • Night sweats or chills • Cough • Shortness of breath • Sore throat • Loss of smell and / or taste.


Winter Illnesses in Children Besides flu and severe allergies, following are the common winter illnesses amongst children: • Pneumonia • Bronchitis • Common cold • Stomach flu.


Watch out for the below symptoms that may occur in combination: • Runny or stuffy nose • Dry and / or harsh cough • Sore throat • Cough with mucus and / or congestion • High fever and / or chills • Whistling sound while breathing • Fatigue • Muscle ache and / or headache.


Preventing Winter Illnesses Amongst Children • Motivating children to wash their hands frequently with soap • Bathing or sponging them regularly • Engaging them in physical activity • Providing them healthy food that includes seasonal vegetables and fruits • Keeping them warm by dressing them appropriately • Keeping them hydrated.
