路 Dialogue Ideas for this brief came from the following subjects: Maritime international code, Flag code, Music sheets, Jolly roger flag, Sign language and Life guard flags. (Seen in the images to the right) These are subjects and methods of dialogue that influenced me when I came to coming up with ideas for the exhibition. In the end the Maritime international code was the strongest idea of them, a form of dialogue and communication used at seas by hanging flags along a line to message to other ships.

Attempted the hand flag code but It wasn’t successful.
As the submission would possibly be screen-printed, the use thick lines throughout the design of it were to allow it to be more successful when it came to be screen-printed. The design actually spells out ‘Dialogue’ using the Maritime international code as convey a message and not just look pretty. Having the lines hanging was to get across the idea that it is on a line to simulate what it would be like if they were hung on a line at sea.

The hounds will stay in chains

inspired by the first three lines from the song ‘team’ which suggested a dog in a chains (hound), this to me was of a dog left outside in the cold tied to a post or of a similar imagery. For the illustration style I looked towards examples found within Nobrow and what the artists there illustrate like. This inspired me to do the rough crayon texture that is present in the final submission.

The client’s specifications for this brief were to have a series of logos based on the same design principle, but with differences in text and colours of text and four different sizes. Tyre smoke been a core theme for the logos they should be constructed akin to the Daft punk logo with differing lines and a fluid merging nature of the characters. It also needs to have high visibility too so that it works when placed over different types of backgrounds, such as a photograph or block colour.

Due to the clear vision of the client it was easy to piece together a logo they envisaged, while still in keeping for my own personal artistic touches where I wanted. As this doesn’t cover just one logo and is of a whole range we’re still in talks with how the layout of the other logos should be. At this point in time Fresh Rubber and Burnt Rubber are complete and have the necessary variations created (4 sizes and multiple colorations). Characters for the remaining letters have been made also.
