The brothers of the Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter and the Ira Dorsey Scholarship Endowment Fund (IDSEF), Inc. of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. hosted their annual Black and Gold Ball, Night of Kings at the luxurious Hilton McLean Tyson’s Corner in McLean, Va. The centerpiece of the evening was the presentation of eight scholarships. The recipients were awarded for their academic achievements and potential for success at their next level Chapter members of higher education. After consumption of a sumptuous meal, heartfelt thanks to the guests, and the singing of the Alpha Hymn, the evening transitioned to some ‘ole school’ jamming on the dance floor with music by The Framewerk Band. To date, the fund has awarded over $120,000 in scholarships to young college bound students.

Sara Elizabeth di Bonaventura and Nii Amaah Koranteng Ofosu-Amaah were married at Harvard’s Memorial Church in Cambridge, Mass., on June 16, 2012. The ceremony was performed by an official of the United Church of Christ. On the day before, the couple were wed in a symbolic ceremony at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge, Mass., that is traditional to the Ga tribe of Ghana, the birthplace of the groom’s parents. The bride, 28, is a Harvard teaching fellow who, in July, will take a position at the public Boston Arts Academy high school as the liaison to the headmaster and board of trustees. The groom, 30, is a senior associate at Berkshire Partners investment firm in Boston. The bride’s father is an executive vice president for Fidelity in Boston. Her mother works as a clinical dietitian at Massachusetts General Hospital. The groom’s father, Paatii Ofosu-Amaah of Chevy Chase, is an adviser to the president of Tunis, Tunisia-based African Development Bank. His mother, Waafas Ofosu-Amaah, is a regional coordinator of the development office of the World Bank in Washington D.C. The groom graduated from St. Alban’s School in Washington D.C. and Harvard, where the couple met. The bride received a master’s degree in prevention science and practice there. The groom holds an M.B.A. from Harvard.

On June 22, the 2012 Hampton Jazz Festival kicked off in Hampton, Va. The threeday event, which was hosted at the Hampton Coliseum, featured a stunning list of entertainers including Charlie Wilson, Bebe Winans, Natalie Cole, Norman Brown, Jill Scott, Ledisi, Kem and more. Now in its 45th year, the Hampton Jazz Festival is one of the longest running Jazz/R&B events in the nation.

Biden cast the upcoming presidential election campaign as a referendum on the nation’s character, according to the economy -- it’s about who the hell we are,” he told the National Association of Black

Journalists (NABJ) in New Orleans. “I believe their social policy is a throwback to the `50s. I believe their foreign policy is a relic of the Cold War.
