“…A right time to hold on and another to let go…” Ecclesiastes 3:6 (The Message). Friends, this is my season of letting go. After a long period of discernment, I have made the decision to resign as director of planned giving effective December 31, 2019. I have chosen to share my decision with you because we have become a family in the 18 years and 11 months that I been engaged in this ministry of transformation with you. Thank you for your friendship and for the many things that you have taught me through the years, especially about sacrificial giving. I am grateful! Although I am leaving this ministry, my family and I will remain connected to Africa University for many, many generations to come. We have endowed a scholarship in memory of our parents; so, for as long as there is a Jenkins heir
living, we will have a relationship with Africa University. I pray God’s continued bountiful blessings upon you, and I ask that you do likewise for me. I wish each of you a meaningful, memorable, magical, and wonderful holiday season. Take excellent care, Ms. Elaine Jenkins everyone! Gammon Theological Seminary has honored James H. Salley, associate vice chancellor for institutional advancement for Africa University, with its 2019 Trailblazer Justice Award. The award was presented on December 3rd at the seminary’s 136th Founders’ Day celebration, where Salley was the Banquet Speaker.
For Rev. Dr. J. Ken Walden, the president and dean of Gammon, Salley's presentation highlighted key messages for the audience, the wider United Methodist Church, and the nation—the significance of building bridges instead of walls; and the reality that people of faith are stronger and can do more together than apart. "He represents and displays unity and inclusive leadership—bringing people together from all walks of life, cultures and nationalities, not only within our denomination, but also from other denominations, to realize big goals and build the Kingdom," said Walden. Salley joined the Gammon Board of Trustees in 2006, at the invitation of Bishop Alfred Norris and Dr. Walter McKelvey, and served for 13 years. He was instrumental to leveraging new development opportunities for the seminary, including a matching gift that funded the renovation of the Gammon Building as well as other board priorities.
