New trajectories of cinema What would happen if the cinema as we know it were to dissolve? This is the question that gives rise to Under Screen - new trajectories of the cinema, the film season conceived to trace in audiovisuals the “after” proposed by the XXI Triennale (closing on 12th September) with Design After Design. The answer is the emergence of new ways of language, as in the cinema which plays with itself and its imagery: Charlie Lyne who in Fear Itself creates a story of fear through fragments of suspense, the collages of the filmmaker Davide Rapp who in Remake & Match travels through the relationship between cinema and architecture or the loops by the Turkish artist Erdal Inci in The Clones Project created in rapid GIF (Graphic Interchange Format). A cinema which is born out of other cinema, also because it is always available on the web. On the possible, present and future of the era of the immaterial, here is the view of the maestro Werner Herzog in the documentary Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World, while on the new world of images we will discuss Cultura visuale (Einaudi), by Andrea Pinotti and Antonio Somaini, which explains the theoretical situation. Without forgetting, lastly, those who challenge the ways of representation: from the subject who addresses the camera to tell his story in Solar by Manuel Abramovich, to the one who is transformed into the director of his life in Les sauteurs by Moritz Sibert and Estephan Wagner who reveal the limbo of those trying to enter Europe through the filming of the Malian Abou Bakar Sidibé. These perspective are far from the vision of the media of information, developed in collaboration with Naga, which open up to another present, as in the exhibition-story #RefugeeCameras: through the photos collected by Kevin McElvaney taken by 15 disposable cameras given to the homeless travellers of our century, starting from the camps of Izmir, Lesbos, Atene and Idomeni.

È da questa domanda che nasce Under Screen - nuove traiettorie del cinema, rassegna ideata per tracciare nell’audiovisivo il “dopo” proposto dalla XXI Triennale (in chiusura il 12 Settembre) con Design After Design. La risposta è l’emergere di nuovi modi di linguaggio, come nel cinema che gioca con se stesso e il suo immaginario: Charlie Lyne che in Fear Itself crea una storia della paura attraverso frammenti di suspense, i montaggi del filmmaker Davide Rapp che in Remake & Match attraversa il rapporto cinema-architettura o i loop dell’artista turco Erdal Inci in The Clones Project creati in rapide GIF (Graphic Interchange Format). Un cinema che nasce da altro cinema, anche perché sempre disponibile in rete. Sul possibile, presente e futuro dell’era dell’immateriale ecco lo sguardo del maestro Werner Herzog nel documentario Lo and Behold - Internet: il futuro è oggi, mentre sul nuovo mondo delle immagini discuteremo di Cultura visuale (Einaudi), saggio di Andrea Pinotti e Antonio Somaini, che ne fa il punto teorico. Senza dimenticare, infine, chi mette in crisi i modi della rappresentazione: dal soggetto che si rivolta alla camera per raccontarsi, in Solar di Manuel Abramovich, a quello che si trasforma nel regista della sua vita in Les sauteurs di Moritz Sibert ed Estephan Wagner che svelano il limbo di quanti cercano di entrare in Europa attraverso le riprese del malese Abou Bakar Sidibé. Prospettive lontane dalla visione dei mezzi di informazione, programmate in collaborazione con il Naga, che aprono a un altro presente, come nell’esibizione-racconto #RefugeeCameras: attraverso le fotografie raccolte da Kevin McElvaney a partire da 15 camere usa-e-getta affidate a viaggiatori senza più patria del nostro secolo, in partenza dai campi di Smirne, Lesbo, Atene e Idomeni.
