Members of the AE George Russell Society are invited to attend the AGM in the United Arts Club. Nomination Forms will be sent to all members, who may then nominate an individual member for a specific position, or as a commitee member. Nominations must be seconded by another member.

Nomination forms must be returned to info@aegeorgerussell.ie by 6th July 2024. If you are unavailable to attend, you will still be considered for election.

PLUNKETT HOUSE TOUR AND PRESENTATION*

In this rare opportunity, we will visit Plunkett House on Merrion Square, home to the Irish Co-Operative Organisation Society with whom AE had a long connection. TJ Flanagan, CEO of ICOS, will provide a guided tour of the building which houses many paintings by AE, and attendees will have the chance to visit the Irish Homestead Library. TJ will be joined by Professor Cormac Ó Gráda in discussing AE’s pivotal role in the Co-Operative Movement.

In a discussion chaired by Dr. Patrick O’Donnell, panellists Dr. Jenny Butler, Dr. Joan Navarre and James North will be providing their unique perspectives on the theme of ‘AE and Esotericism.’ Dr. Butler’s presentation “‘The Fairy Ring of Twilight, Mid the Spheres of Night and Day’: Otherworldly Beings in the Work of AE” will explore the spiritual dimensions in AE’s visual art and literary works. Dr. Joan Navarre will present on


“Wild(e) Green Wand: The Art and Life of Althea Gyles (1867-1949)” discussing the artist who bridged the worlds of AE and Oscar Wilde. Finally, James North will give a personal “insider” account of being a longterm practitioner of a similar path of meditation to that of AE, and also a similar Hermetic tradition to that of Yeats.

The beautifully appointed Dining Room at the United Arts Club is the venue for our inaugural dinner. We are honoured to welcome former Irish Ambassador to the United States, Daniel Mulhall as our after-dinner speaker. Daniel has lectured widely on Irish history and literature. He is also an AE enthusiast, and his lecture will focus on AE as a public figure, who was an asset to the Ireland of his time.

“The Golden Age is all about us,” A.E.
The Golden Age Walking Tour, led by Patrick O’Donnell and Réamonn Ó Ciaráin retraces the sites of the friends and haunts of the great practical mystic, poet, painter, editor, and gentle sage, AE George Russell.
The walk will conclude at 12.30pm at Doheny & Nesbitt on Baggot Street. We hope you’ll join us there for lunch before our final panel discussions in Gael Linn.

This panel, chaired by Marianne McGee, will discuss AE’s influence on his many friends, and the sharing of wisdom which inspired their individual endeavours.
Patrick O’Donnell, Réamonn Ó Ciaráin, Linda Rosewood and Dorothea McDowell will be discussing AE’s friendships with James Stephens, Standish O’Grady and Ella Young.

In the second panel discussion, Michael McKernan, Jim Conway and Jonathan Hackett will discuss the themes that link AE’s poetry, paintings and illustrations. The panellists will analyse selected examples of AE’s work, inviting interpretations from the audience. The panel will be chaired by Brigid McGibbon, the society’s secretary.
