Happy Anniversary, NAIFA!

By Ayo Mseka

This Special Edition of Advisor Today showcases some of NAIFA’s most recent accomplishments as it celebrates 130 years of excellence in helping its members succeed.

The oldest and largest professional association in the insurance field, NAIFA was founded on June 18, 1890, in Boston as the National Association of Life Underwriters. Thirty years ago, NAIFA celebrated 100 years of industry leadership by publishing the highly acclaimed book, Voices from the Field.

Over the years, NAIFA has re-invented itself to meet the changing needs of its members and the markets they serve. In 2018, NAIFA members voted to restructure the association to move from a federated model of 600-plus legal and financial entities to a new organizational model of one national office, 53 state and territorial chapters, and 30 local chapters. The new model went into effect on January 1, 2019, and empowered NAIFA to reinvent itself.

This Special Edition of Advisor Today provides an overview of how NAIFA is keeping its Membership Promise to advocate, educate and differentiate. We highlight our advocacy work at the federal, interstate and state levels; our thought leadership activities; and the opportunities you have to differentiate yourself through volunteer leadership.
