Pastoral Letter Ecclesiastes 3:1 “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.” Are you someone who makes New Year resolutions? Many of us do; it may be to get fitter and healthier, lose weight or just try and do the things we do with a smile on our face! We can make as many resolutions as we wish, but the issue is whether we can keep to them! Gym applications and membership tend to rocket during January, though by February the initial enthusiasm for a considerable number of people has often waned and I speak with personal experience having vowed to do an hour in the gym followed by 10 lengths of the Westgate pool! Resolutions are often balanced out with expectations and the reality of time pressures and commitments. The writer of the Book of Ecclesiastes, which means “the teacher” or “preacher”, had himself, tried and experienced many things, as he sought fulfilment in career achievement, wealth, pleasure and much wine …, only to find they did not satisfy. He even answered the students’ perpetual prayer, “Of making (reading/studying) many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body.” (Eccl. 12:12). He begins the book by stating that life can seem meaningless, “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” (Eccl. 1:2) yet concludes with these words, “Now that all has been heard, here is the conclusion of the matter, Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.” (Eccl. 12:13). So how about it, would you like a spiritual, rather than a physical challenge to begin 2016? The Alpha Course, a practical introduction to the Christian faith will be available to anyone who wants to know more. So why not pick up the gauntlet and come along to our introduction evening supper party on Saturday 16th January from 7pm at Churchgates Barn and meet up with some of the folk who have just completed the Alpha Course. Please ring the Vicarage on 700339 if you would like to come. Happy New Year. Clive and Marion

Prayer Ministry in our Services If you would like prayers for healing for yourself or a loved one on the first, third and fourth Sundays of each month, two members of the team are available in the Lady Chapel to pray with you during the administration of Communion. You do not need to say anything or be specific about what is troubling you if you don’t wish to. This can be a very special and peaceful time and a great comfort.

From the Registers (November) Baptisms: We welcome into the Lord’s Family Flynn Cullingford, baptised on Sunday 1st November at St. Peter’s Funerals:

We give thanks for the life of John Wright whose funeral took place on Friday 13th November at Worthing Crematorium

Prayer Chain of Prayer Worried about a loved one, a friend or yourself and would like prayers to be said by a chain of people? Contact Wendy 700295 or Gillian 700157 and they will start the chain by contacting the person next to them on the list and so it goes all the way round. A copy of the chain is on the notice board at the back of church. Prayer is a powerful and important part of life and one should never under estimate its effect. You don't need to give any details of the problem just ask for prayers to be said and it will happen. Please note that it will be treated with total confidentiality.

Prayers are offered for parishioners who are in special need, especially the sick and frail. Please advise either of the churchwardens of any persons or situations you would like remembered in this way. All those living in particular roads are prayed for regularly, the whole parish being covered over a 12-week cycle: Week beginning:

From the Editor Happy New Year and a warm welcome to the January 2016 edition of Ad Vincula. I hope you have all had an enjoyable Christmas and are ready to face a new year! In addition to the usual articles this month, we have reports on the outcome of the Link to Hope Shoeboxes (p12) and the RBL Poppy Appeal (p33), pleas for additional volunteers to help run the fete (p13) and for more drivers/escorts for the Minibus (p17) - both very important village institutions. We have a timely reminder of the SSE Priority Service Register (p19), a report of the very successful Advent Christmas Tree Festival with pictures (p21-23) and a report of the FSW Christmas Hamper Appeal (p27). Finally, I would really love to hear from anybody who could supply some Village Sports News for the magazine every month (or even occasionally). Please do get in touch. Roland Zilz This magazine can also be viewed on line at: http://www.wisboroughgreenparishchurch.org.uk/index.php/parish-magazine

From the (Outgoing) Distribution Coordinator A New Year and a new man at the delivery helm! As you will have read in December's Ad Vincula John Gough has, from this month, taken over the job from me of overseeing the distribution of the parish magazine to everyone in the village - and, in some cases, beyond! For years the magazine - a real life-line of village news and views for so many people was paid-for monthly by just over 300 people and delivered by 18 volunteers who not only trudged out in all weather but once a year had to collect the subscription monies as well. That all changed, coincidentally, during my "reign" and now more than thirty volunteers ensure that every house (we hope) in the village receives a free copy of the new look Ad Vincula. And that doesn't include copies left for anyone who wants them in the church, post office, cafe, Bellmans, The Cricketers, The Three Crowns, The Wisborough, Fishers Farm, The Works and even the Half Moon at Kirdford - nor magazines posted as far afield as Eye, Chichester and Peterborough! That's a mind-boggling 850 copies (give or take)! So we hope that's not only a great read for everyone but represents excellent value for our advertisers without whom the magazine wouldn't exist in its present form. A final thank you from me to all of you who deliver Ad Vincula, those of you who have been part of the team "for ever" and those relatively "new" to the job - you know you are appreciated - and please continue to support John as you supported me. Welcome on board John! Roger Moody 9

Wisborough Green Primary School News It seems hard to believe a whole school term has passed since I joined Wisborough Green Primary School and it has been a term full of positive experiences. I truly feel like I have found a special place to work where I really can make a difference. The past few weeks have been packed with Christmas festivities, from decorating the trees for the Christmas Tree Festival in the church to the brilliant Nativity performed by the Key Stage One and Early Years children. As the end of term approaches we look forward to our Christmas lunch at the village hall with a special visitor making an appearance, the Carol Concert performed at the church, Christmas parties and a visiting Pantomime. I am sure we will all need a much needed rest over the Christmas holidays so we are ready for another busy term next year.

You might think we haven’t had time for anything other than Christmas activities but we have also been working hard to improve our mathematical problem solving skills. Our ‘Maths Fun Day’ was enjoyed by all as it was an opportunity to learn together with children and teachers across the school. The day included maths art, Forest School maths and lots of puzzles and games. We have also introduced a ‘Maths Award’ for children who are working hard to improve their skills and persevering with their learning. We really do love maths at Wisborough Green! As I reflect over the term I feel very lucky to be working with some of the most engaging, reflective and determined characters I have ever met. The children, parents, staff and governors have made me proud to be part of the Wisborough Green Community. It really is amazing what we can accomplish when we’re in it together. The Gardener’s Calendar

by Ian Clemens

 Remove old Hellebore leaves to make the new blooms

more visible as they emerge this spring.

 Remove any faded flowers from your winter pansies to stop them

setting seed and prolong flowering.

 Cut back the old foliage from ornamental grasses before growth

begins - clip them to within a few centimetres of the ground.

 Plant bare root roses now in a sunny position for spectacular summer

colour.

 Harvest parsnips and leeks.  Start chitting (sprouting) early potatoes - stand them on end in a

module tray or egg box and place in a bright cool frost-free place.

 Remove yellowing leaves from your winter brassicas as they are no use

to the plant and may harbour pests and diseases.

 Prune blackcurrant bushes, gooseberries and redcurrants to maintain

a productive framework.

 Try forcing rhubarb plants by placing an upturned bucket or bin over

the crown. This will force tender pink stems to grow that will be ready in about 8 weeks.

 Plant Amaryllis bulbs in pots now for stunning indoor flowers in early

spring.

Link to Hope Shoeboxes Thank you so much to all who filled a shoebox, for Eastern Europe. 43 were collected from the church, village and school, and l8 from Trefoil Guild. So a great result. They were taken to the national warehouse at Worthing to join mountains of others, from all over the country, where they are sorted and if unsuitable, broken, half empty, too large or too small they are repacked at the shoebox 'hospital' to try to ensure most boxes are similarly filled to the brim with suitable gifts. They are then shipped to various parts of Eastern Europe in time for Christmas, where of course they are received with much joy and can know that special gift of love at Christmas, in their difficult situation. So again, thank you very much on behalf of Link to Hope and the recipients. Suzanne Mosley 12

Wisborough Green Fete Society – Needs your help! It might not be the rain that stops the Fete this year…..we really need new members to join the organising committee in order to ensure that this fantastic village tradition continues. We have recently said good-bye to two long-standing committee members and are now in need of new volunteers to join our team. We know that there are often pleas for help, but without people willing to come along and get involved we do risk losing some of the village events that make our community so great. What would the August Bank Holiday be like with no more village Fete! We are a friendly and fun group of local people. We meet 5 or 6 times a year in the pub (of course!) to keep abreast of the event planning, there is some work to be done between meetings and you would ideally need to be available on the August Bank Holiday weekend. It isn’t that onerous but we do need volunteers who have some time to take on some of the organising and planning tasks. If you are interested in finding out more or would like a no-commitment chat about what is involved, please do contact Louise on 700689 or Andrea on 700435. Or just come along to our forthcoming AGM.

KKWG Update This month KKWG is 2.5 years old and there are a number of highlights to mention which were spelled out in the report drawn up for the AGM which was held in WG Village hall on November 27th, 2015.

Group highlights in 2014-15 included:  July 22nd, 2014 - WSCC unanimous decision to turn down the application by Celtique Energie Weald Ltd (CEWL) for an Exploratory drill site for Oil/Gas  Company appeals in October 2014 and KKWG becomes a Rule 6 participant for the forthcoming Public Inquiry (PI) in Nov 2014  PI to be held in Northchapel Village Hall starting Sept 8th 2015 and lasting the rest of the month  Learn from others, retain Planning Advocate and witnesses  Start fund raising with a target based on evidence of £100k to cover expert Planning Advocate and witnesses  March 11th – CEWL throws in the towel and date will be enshrined in a Villages Day  March 24th – splendid party to celebrate our win held in the WG Village Hall

Boxal Bridge: Following discussion of the issue at West Sussex County Council meeting on October 16th, the Parish Councils have yet to hear back from WSCC Highways about a meeting concerning Boxal Bridge. Many thanks to Katy Fletcher, KKWG Hon Sec for her unstinting work on this issue helped by input from independent engineers.

Broadford Bridge: WSCC did give Celtique Energie permission to drill at Broadford Bridge in Feb 2013 before CE staged their exhibition display in the Kirdford Village Hall. There is now an active group based in Billingshurst opposing the site and keeping an eye on it.

Bat survey work: Having spent most of 2 years facing the threat of the CEWL Oil/Gas application a subgroup of KKWG members wished to make a positive contribution and continued with the plans to carry out additional bat surveys originally commissioned to provide evidence at the PI with our expert witness Dr Ian Davidson-Watts and Dr David Hill. The exciting news is that their surveys confirmed the existence of another important rare species, the Bechstein. Report available. We gained a great deal of assistance from many people to succeed – a core group of people determined to do everything necessary on a professional basis – publications, communications, press work, promotion and fund raising; plus contact with a range of expertise all of which was vital CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL INVOLVED in the work of KKWG AND THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR EFFORTS during this last year If anyone wants any more information or to ask any questions please contact the Chair, Jill Sutcliffe at 01403 700395 15

Community Minibus Association (West Sussex) Registered Charity No 275787

WANTED! New Drivers/Escorts for the Wisborough Green Minibus We are a branch of the West Sussex Community Minibus Association, which is a charity completely run by unpaid volunteers. We have our own VW 6seater minibus, which is presently used twice-weekly to collect our member passengers from their homes and take them out – sometimes for essential shopping, sometimes for social reasons. Our operation of the Village Minibus is entirely due to the commitment and enthusiasm of our volunteer drivers and escorts, and I should like to take this opportunity to thank them for the time and effort they have so generously given to ensure that this service continues. I should very much appreciate hearing from anyone who feels they could devote one or two mornings (or sometimes afternoons) a month to help maintain our service to those who otherwise might become progressively more isolated – the minibus can become a lifeline to some, being their only means of transport, and, in many cases I hope it is also a great source of friendship. If you could find the time to help, I should be very happy to hear from you, and will explain what is required. Thank you. Pat Farmer E: farmerpatricia@btinternet.com T: 01403 700492

Beekeeping for Beginners Taster Day A one day course will take place in Pulborough on Saturday March 5th 2016 to provide information for people who think they may like to investigate taking up beekeeping. Advent Christmas Tree Festival 5th - 13th December 2015 Wednesday 2nd December was the day the trees were delivered and what seemed like a good idea back in September now looked daunting, but after two and a half days of activity by a whole army of volunteers our beautiful church had been transformed. 55 trees were now in stands, lit, decorated and awaiting the switch-on and the many visitors who followed. Over the next week well over 1500 people visited the church and word spread rapidly.

The ‘Music among the trees’ concert on Thursday 10 th December was a triumph and we all enjoyed a wonderful evening of music. We were superbly entertained by the Glee Singers and The Weald School Concert band with a wide range of Christmas music. Claire and Sam sang and played beautifully, Ian and Stuart mesmerised us with their piano duets and we were captivated by the brilliant singing of Isabella. Mulled wine and mince pies courtesy of the Wisborough rounded off a great evening of entertainment. (Continued on page 22)

Advent Christmas Tree Festiv (Continued from page 21)

Our service of Carols of Praise on Sunday 13th December with our Archdeacon (Venerable Fiona Windsor) present rounded off a thoroughly enjoyable and successful event. Suzanne Mosley won the vote for the favourite tree with Climbing Bears as the runner-up. We raised a total of over £3,000 which will be shared between Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice and St Peter ad Vincula Building Development Fund. We would like to sincerely thank all the organisations, families and individuals who so generously sponsored trees & other materials for this festival. We also thank the huge number of people, too many to name, who have decorated the trees so wonderfully and those who have helped in any way with the setting up, stewarding and running of the festival. Without all these people and groups none of this would have been possible. Finally, our thanks go to all those who visited the festival and donated so generously. Dr Graham Parr Churchwarden

Recipe of the Month Aubergine and Tomato Gratin – with red pepper pesto A satisfying vegetarian dish. Also good with pasta, or as an accompaniment to meat. For 4 as a main dish.  2 Aubergines  1 can/carton chopped tomatoes or 500g fresh tasty tomatoes (in season)  Olive oil  Chopped Basil – a good handful  Parmesan cheese  Salt and Pepper For the Pesto A jar of Red Pepper Pesto plus a teaspoon (or to taste) of mild chilli powder. Or make your own with 1 roasted red pepper, basil leaves, garlic clove, pine nuts, tomatoes, mild chilli powder, parmesan cheese and olive oil. Method 1. Cut the aubergines into slices about 7 mm each. A griddle pan is ideal otherwise use a grill to pre-cook the aubergines – heat to a high temperature. Brush the slices with olive oil and cook till well marked with the griddle or lightly browned under the grill. 2. Place a layer of aubergines in a shallow buttered dish and spread a thin layer of pesto followed by a layer of tomatoes, sprinkle with basil and follow with parmesan and seasoning. Repeat, finishing with a layer of aubergines. Sprinkle with parmesan. 3. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 170 C for 35 to 45 minutes until lightly browned and bubbling. 4. Let the dish stand for a little while and serve with crusty (or garlicky) bread and maybe a green salad. Chris Mosley

Family Support Work Christmas Hampers Many, many thanks for the overwhelming response to the Christmas Hamper appeal for FSW. So many gifts of beautiful foods and 'smellies', I thought I would need a trailer to take it all!! It was a joy to take a car full of goods and to hear about the happiness it has given to many families in Sussex. Over 100 hampers were packed and a mid Sussex farmer also gave 100 organic turkeys. This meant, instead of having a very ordinary Christmas these families could eat well and have treats for the children. I would love to be able to thank you personally - but many gifts arrived on the doorstep with no identification. Judy Moorey, 01403 700700 27

Wisborough Green History - FROM Since their inception in the early eighteenth century, poorhouses were parish establishments that housed paupers without any resident master or matron and where little or no work was required of the inmates. This was as required by the Old Poor Law, known more correctly as the 1601 Act for the Relief of the Poor. Its main aim was the establishment of the parish as responsible for poor relief, with parish overseers collecting poor-rates and allocating relief. Although no work was required of the occupants, there were many duties that still had to be done. Apart from routine duties such as cooking and washing, they were required to grow their own vegetables; the areas on the south and east sides were used for this purpose. After the enlargement was completed in 1807 there was more space for the occupants and those who had lived in other parish houses due to overcrowding were now able to join their fellow inmates. Supporting the 80 or so inmates that lived in the poorhouse was an expense to the parish and this was one of the factors that brought about a change in the way poorhouses operated. A second factor was the abuse of the system, e.g. often leading to the topping-up of workers' wages by the relief. The third were some influential harsh, simplistic and still topical doctrines, primarily by Thomas Malthus who considered that, unless checked, population increased faster than resources. He saw any assistance to the poor, e.g. the Poor Laws, as self-defeating as it made their lives easier and thus caused them to increase their numbers which in turn led to more people needing assistance. It resulted in the passing of The 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act that sought to impose central control such that relief would only be given in workhouses, that conditions should be worse than the worst conditions outside so as to deter any but the truly destitute from applying for assistance. It required groupings of poorhouses called Poor Law Unions to be established to administer the workhouses each under the control of a master or matron. Importantly, it required the able-bodied paupers to do unpaid work in return for their food and accommodation. Incidentally, this also introduced the term 'workhouse' although it became and remained interchangeable with the earlier term 'poorhouse'. After 1834, Poor Law policy aimed to transfer unemployed rural workers to urban areas where there was work, and protect urban ratepayers from paying too much. It was impossible to achieve both these aims, as the principle of less eligibility made people search for work in towns and cities. Workhouses were built there and paupers moved to urban areas where ratepayers were protected from paying too much. Workhouse construction and the creation of unions was slow so ultimately the full implementation of the Act proved impossible. The importance of the Poor Law declined with the rise of the welfare state in the 20th century and in 1948, the Act was repealed. As a result of the Act, the Petworth Union was formed. Its operation was overseen by an elected Board of 16 Guardians, representing its five constituent parishes as listed below: Petworth (5 guardians), Kirdford (3), Wisborough Green (3), Billingshurst (3) and Rudgwick (2). The population within the union at the 1831 census was 9,042 with parishes ranging in size from Rudgwick (population 950) to Petworth itself (3,114). The new Petworth Union made use of its three former parish poorhouses, but instead of each housing all ages and classes as before, it was decided that each workhouse (Continued on page 31)

30

M POORHOUSE TO VILLAGE HALL 8 (Continued from page 30)

should be assigned inmates within a particular age range as follows:  Petworth was for able bodied adults  Wisborough Green was for children  Kirdford was for the old and infirm. It was also agreed that that it was necessary to separate man and wife to ensure the proper regulation of workhouses, though in the case of the Petworth Union, this was only done by separate living accommodation within a workhouse. No trace remains of the Petworth workhouse that was located just north of The Stonemasons Inn. When the building was demolished in the 1920s or 30s, the site was occupied by a filling station that later became the entrance to Northfield Close upon its closure. Unfortunately I've not come across any photos of the workhouse. Kirdford Workhouse still exists as a private house, now called Church House, roughly opposite the Half Moon; see the picture below (more info on Peter Higginbotham’s workhouse website www.workhouses.org.uk which is highly recommended). The inmates of workhouses were required to grow their own vegetables as before and the maisonette garden on the east side of Wisborough workhouse was used for this purpose. The area on the south side (now the car park) became the boys' exercise yard after 1835 when the building only accommodated children. As a result of the poorhouse enlargement and the loss of the south side area, additional land was thus required for cultivation and also the rearing of chickens and pigs. For this purpose, shortly after 1807, the parish allocated the plot of land that is now the village allotments at the junction with Harsfold Lane. The land became the present allotments when the workhouse closed towards the end of the First World War. Richard B.

The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2015 The results for the annual village contribution to the national appeal is as follows: Commercial contributions: Street collections Door to door Grand total:

£634.44 £ 58.39 £675.19 £1,368.02

This is very slightly down on last year, (£100), very largely due to the rotten weather on the day I chose for the street collection, so I suppose it's my fault. The village remains one of the top contributors to this popular charity and the RBL Sussex officers expressed their sincere thanks to all who contributed. I thank every one who helped, walked, stood in the rain, bought more than they needed, just as this village always does. Thank you Wisborough Green. John Ansley (01403 700302)

Neighbourhood Watch - Crime News & Advice Elderly Targeted by Fake Police Officers There has been a recent series of incidents whereby fraudsters either phone or attend the home address of elderly members of the public, claiming to be police officers. The fake officer/s will claim that they are investigating a fraud which they believe the elderly person to be a victim of. The fake officer/s will then request the bank cards and Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) of the victim and claim these are needed for investigation purposes. If the first contact was made by a phone call, the fake officer/s will tell the victim that someone will be over to collect the evidence. In one case the victim was instructed to attend their local bank and withdraw all of the money from their account. The suspect was left alone in the victim’s house whilst the victim carried out the instructions.

Protect Yourself  Before letting anyone into your home who claims to be from any law enforcement agency, ask to see their identity card and check it by calling 101.  Ask if they can attend at a pre-arranged time when a family member or friend can also be present.  If you receive a phone call from a police officer, ask for their name and force and tell them you will call them back. Wait a few minutes and then use 101 to call them back through their force’s switchboard and verify their identity. (Continued on page 35)

If you believe that you have been a victim of fraud you can report it online http:// www.actionfraud.police.uk/report_fraud or by telephone 0300 123 2040.

Protect yourself from Bogus Electrical Websites Fraudsters have set up a high specification website template advertising various electrical goods and domestic appliances. These goods are below market value and do not exist. The fraudsters will request your card details via the website; however the purchaser will then receive an email stating the payment failed and they must pay via bank transfer. The fraudsters entice the purchaser and reassure them it is a legitimate purchase by using the widely recognised Trusted Shop Trustmark. The fraudsters are using the Trustmark fraudulently and have not been certified by Trusted Shops and therefore the purchaser is not covered by the Trusted Shop money-back guarantee.

Protect yourself:  Check the authenticity of the websites before making any purchases. Conduct a ‘whois’ search on the website which will identify when the website has been created, be wary of newly formed domains. You can conduct this search using the following website - https://who.is/.  Carry out online research in relation to the website, company name and the business address provided to identify any poor feedback or possible irregularities.  Check the Trusted Shops Facebook page where warnings about websites using their Trustmark are published. If you are in doubt about the legitimacy of a Trustmark then you can contact Trusted Shops on 0203 364 5906 or by email service@trustedshops.co.uk. They will confirm whether they have certified that website.  Payments made via bank transfer are not protected should you not received the item. Therefore always try to make the payment via PayPal or a credit card where you have some payment cover should you not receive your product.  If the item advertised seems too good to be true, then it probably is. Wisborough Green Short Mat Bowls Club Well it's 'that time of the year' again and 27 members attended our Christmas Lunch at the Six Bells, Billingshurst. On the playing front we had a friendly match away at Fittleworth, unfortunately we were beaten on all three mats with Lyn White, Jane Adsett, David Luxford and Monica Enticknap losing 19-33. Evelyn Ringrose, Hilary Nulty, Marilyn Knight and Reg Snelgar losing 16-24 and Jean Head, Joan Goodchild Dawn Smith and Keith Carter losing 9-27. Our last match of the year was against League side Arundel with Jane Adsett, David Luxford, Bernard Adsett and Monica Enticknap running out comfortable winners 25-8 on mat 1, with Pauline Shipway, Tony Broughton, Shirley Bundy and George Shipway losing 9-24 on mat 2 just giving us an overall win in the match. During November we had the inaugural playing of the 'Reg Hickman and Grace Carter Triples Shield' which turned out to be a very enjoyable competition. The combination of Bernard Adsett, Jane Adsett and Joan Goodchild were deserved winners, with David Luxford, Jean Head and Richard Holley runners up. The club singles knockout competition came to its conclusion on December 14th, a report will follow next month. We resume in the new year on 11 th January, so a Happy New Year to all. Wisborough Green Horticultural Society No Talk in January 2016 Monday, 1st February 2016 - 8pm Village Hall Talk by Ray Broughton with “Tips & New Ideas” This is likely to be a cracker of a talk. Ray came a few years ago and spoke about the soil. Absolutely riveting, amusing and helpful. All those who came were so keen to have him back. Ray used to teach students at Sparsholt college in Hampshire, so he was well practiced in clear memorable ways in getting ideas across. Now he teaches part time at Wisley and so his experience is deepened and widened even further. What a stimulating start to a New Year. New ways of doing things and new ideas to think on. P.S. The talk will be upon us as soon as the February's Ad Vincula is delivered. Might it be an idea to pencil it in your 2016 Diary? New Year's wishes for an interesting and happy gardening year. Weather Watch Wisborough Green Rainfall for November was 101mm (178mm last year –my 8 yr average is 129mm). This was a drop in the ocean compared with the very recent rain in Cumbria – it was no wonder they had so much flooding as November levels of rain for the North were very high. It was the mildest November on record (since 1659!) - apart from the polar plume that saw temporary plunging temperatures when Weathervane recorded -5°C on November 21st. Sunshine levels over the country were just 62% of average. A dull and dreary month indeed! Weathervane
