US Air Force aircraft deploy to Baltics, Poland for Rapid Forge

At Siauilai AB, Lithuania, F-15E Strike Eagles, C-130J Super Hercules aircraft, and multifunctional Airmen also conducted integrated combat turns, which included rapid refueling and re-arming using inert munitions. At Ämari AB, Estonia, F-15E Strike Eagles, MC-130J Commando II aircraft, and special tactics opera-
tors conducted rapid refueling of the fighters by passing fuel to the F-15E Strike Eagles directly from the MC-130J. This demonstrates the special tactics operator’s and MC-130J aircraft’s capability to execute refueling missions in austere environments. These forward deployments also allowed aircrews to conduct theater familiarization and demonstrate U.S. commitment to NATO allies and partners through the dynamic employment of our military forces.

wing and tail walkers, handpump operators and brake operators. “Part of the way that we deal with the fact that we don’t have enough of the right people in the right places is through doing creative things like CUT training,” said Lockard, of the work Tingen accomplished. “To use their talents and prioritize mission sets so we can get the most stuff done… that’s
the critical piece.” For Tingen, the recognition bolstered his satisfaction in his job. “It’s humbling,” Tingen said. “It makes you proud of the work you do.” The Airlifter of the Week program recognizes Ramstein Airmen who, through their hard work and dedication, make the 86th AW the “World’s Best Wing.”

AUSTIN, Texas — Air Edu cation and Training Com mand officials began a beta test aimed at learning the best ways to introduce more technologically ready Airmen into units July 9, in Austin, Texas. The program, Project NEXUS, is expected to fuel organic technology problem solving efforts for Airmen in their day-to-day workplaces. From July to November
2019, 18 Airmen will study data science, software devel opment, or UI/UX design in Project NEXUS, an Air Force beta program creat ed by AETC’s Technology Integration Detachment and hosted by AFWERX-Austin. “Project NEXUS will drive internal AETC expertise in modern data science and mobile design and develop ment,” said Capt. The trash pickup finished at a park where participants were treated to a barbeque. “The whole day was a great experience to meet with the community and see what a new culture is like and craft new bonds,” said Airman 1st Class Brandon Pippin, 86th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron electrical and environmental specialist. “The kids enjoyed our presence and feel like they know we’re here for them.”

by Michelle Thum Regional Health Command Europe Public Health Command Europe held a Change of Command ceremony July 12 as the command’s outgoing commander, Col. Rebecca Porter, relinquished her command to Col. Brian Spangler. The event was hosted by Brig. Gen. Ron Stephens, Regional Health
U.S. Army Col. Brian Spangler, incoming commander, Public Health Command Europe, and his wife, U.S. Army Col. Kathy Spangler, SHAPE Healthcare Facility commander, cut the cake following the change of command ceremony.
Command Europe commanding general and U.S. Army Europe Command Surgeon. The ceremony officially passed PHCE leadership to Spangler, who most recently attended Senior Service College at The Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy in Washington DC. This will be his third command position and second time serving in Germany. “I am honored and humbled by your trust and confidence to take on this responsibility. Public Health Command Europe has a great and well-deserved reputation for excellence and I look forward to my challenge of continuing where Col. Rebecca Porter left off,” Spangler said. Spangler’s wife, Col. Kathy Spangler, has recently assumed command of the SHAPE Health Clinic in Mons, Belgium. A change of command is a longheld military tradition. The ceremony is a symbolic passing of responsibility, authority and accountability from one commanding officer to another and is often the first time the unit sees the new commander and the last time they see the outgoing commander. It ensures Soldiers are never left without official guidance and it signifies the allegiance of Soldiers to their commander. “The change of command ceremony demonstrates these expectations.

“It’s been a challenging but rewarding two years and a great opportunity to have been working in such a diverse area of operation.” Porter said. Brig. Gen Ron Stephens acknowledged Porter’s service and dedication to her organization, as well as her husband and family’s support for the Army family. Porter will retire from the Army after 38 years of service and will work for a nonprofit, military child education organization. Public Health Command Europe reached its initial operating capability Oct. 1, 2010, combining the assets of the legacy United States of America Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine-Europe and European Regional Veterinary Command. PHCE is made up of 400
Soldiers and civilians stationed in six countries. Public Health Command Europe provides integrated, comprehensive, and global veterinary and preventive medicine support, that includes: occupational and environmental medicine, laboratory services, veterinary services, health promotion and wellness, environmental health and engineering, occupational health services, and epidemiology and disease surveillance. This support is provided for garrisons, training areas, and contingency and combat forces operating in U.S. European Command, U.S. Africa Command, and U.S. Central Command. The range of support routinely spans throughout 40 countries in a given year.

Annweiler honors Richard the Lionheart today to Sunday Fifteen years ago the historic old town of Annweiler began honoring King Richard the Lionheart of Brittany. This year the city is also celebrating its 800th birthday. The event will take place today to Sunday and will take you back to the medieval times with vendors, craftsmen, jugglers, children’s activities, and musical entertainment. After the opening parade, Friday at 6 p.m., the Scottish Folk band SKYE will start live musical entertainment on the main stage at city hall. Craftsmen will demonstrate their skills as weavers, wood turners, glass blowers, stone masons, clairvoyants, and fortune tellers. Vendors will sell jewelry, diaries, clothes, dried fruits and nuts, leather items, soaps, wooden sculptures, honey, and beeswax candles. Medieval delicacies like wild potatoes with herb sauce, grilled sausages, pita bread, and Flammkuchen along

A self-guided tour takes no more than one hour. Opening hours are Saturday, Sunday, and German holidays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. February until mid-March, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, March 15 through the end of October, and in November, Saturday, Sunday and German holidays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Trifels castle is closed in December and January. Admission fee is 4.50 euro for adults and 2.50 euro for children. Parking will be limited. Several routes will take visitors to Annweiler, located south of Kaiserslautern on Federal Street 10 (B10) or trains operate from Kaiserslautern via Pirmasens to Annweiler. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Bostalsee, which was founded in 1979. The program starts Saturday at 4:30 p.m. with the Trio Poèts Musicales on Sparkasse stage. The official opening with county commissioner Udo Recktenwald will follow at 7 p.m. Then, at 7:15 p.m. there will be hot Latino rhythms with MARQUESS, followed by De Corazóne at 9:15 p.m. Multiple stages set up around the lake offer musical entertainment, jugglers, dance shows, culinary specialties, and an arts and crafts exhibition. The fest attracts visitors from the region and far beyond. At the market area, Kleine Marktmeile, vendors offer handmade products such as jewelry, leather goods, garden decorations, wooden toys, vintage furniture, and cards. VA employment course starts in October by Installation Management Command-Europe Public Affairs For military members separating or retiring from overseas, the search for that first job as a civilian can be a challenge. To assist in Europe, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is offering a career-skills training opportunity to help transitioning troops potentially become VA employees through the Warrior Transition Advancement Course, or WARTAC, which is being held Oct. 9 to Dec. 19 at the IMCOM-Europe Workforce Development Center on Sembach Kaserne. WARTAC participants will receive training as a Veterans Service Representative, or VSR, and be interviewed for a position at one of 56 Regional Veteran Service Centers throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and the Philippines. To apply for the training in Sembach, transitioning service members must first participate in one of several virtual WARTAC briefings scheduled for Aug. 5 to 9, when VA reps will brief on WARTAC and the application process. The event will take place in the historical garden around the electoral palace. Trier was founded more than 2,000 years ago. In 1986, Trier became a UNESCO world heritage site with Roman architectural monuments. During the two-day event attractions include craftsmen, traders, jugglers, combat demonstrations, falconer, and a Knight camp. In taverns visitors will be spoiled with special beers and wines as well as medieval specialties.
The event will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Bohemian Bards will perform at noon on both days, followed by Kalibo, the magician. Also on both days at 1 p.m., a weapons display will attract visitors. A parade to the event area is scheduled for 2 p.m. The official opening will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. When planning a trip to the beach, youʻre probably looking at Italy, France and Spain for your Vitamin D fix but forgetting all about the beauty thatʻs waiting on Germanyʻs very own shores. The North Sea, sometimes referred to as German Sea, offers white sand and green meadows as far as the eye can see along with fresh fish, dreamy hiking paths and the world famous tidelands. I’ve been wanting to go back for years and I’m very glad I did. We stayed in Dorum, a small town right by the beach, which was perfectly central to everything we wanted to do. The weather was in our favour as well but do not let these photos fool you: it’s not always sunny along the Wurster Nordseeküste. Relaxing The national park Nordseeküste is the perfect destination for nature lovers looking for a relaxing yet exiting vacation. Wherever you stay, you will be given a “Gästekarte”, guest pass, which earns you free admission to beaches and pools along with discounts for museums and other attractions. Tideland Walks The North Sea is famous for their tides meaning the ocean will not always be there when you show up to the beach. In fact, you might be quite surprised how far away the water will be at times. A tide calendar (available online) can tell you when you’ll be able to go for a swim and when it’s best to go on an epic tideland walk. While it is absolutely safe to walk along the mudflats by yourself, long tideland walks from one island to another should not be emerged on without a professional guide as the flood has surprised self-confident hikers in the past and can be quite unpredictable at times. Thankfully, guided tours are offered everywhere along the coast. If you don’t want to walk, you can rent a horse-drawn wagon and discover the unique scenery without getting your feet muddy. However, the mud functions a natural foot scrub with endless minerals that you should not miss out on.

Bremerhaven Museums These are two of the most interesting and elaborate interactive museums I have ever been to and they’re located right next to each other by the harbour in Bremerhaven, circa 30 minutes from Dorum. However, since both museums offer an intense variety of knowledge and require several hours of your time, you might want to consider doing them on separate days to avoid information-overflow-induced headaches. The city’s harbour is great for walks and culinary recharging between museums as well. Admission is quite expensive at €14.80/€16 per adult and €8.80/€11.50 per child but I promise you both museums are well worth the time and money for children and adults alike. Dogs are not allowed in either of them. Emigration Museum The Auswanderer Museum, Emigration Museum, winner of the 2007 European Museum of the Year Award, covers 300 years of immigration and emigration history with a unique design: your entrance ticket is a boarding pass to your new life across the pond, which leads you through authentic waiting halls onto a ship where you can see replicas of cabins for different classes and hear stories by former travellers. land, you arrive at a stunning replica of Grand Central station where you can learn about the multicultural population all over America. From there you continue back to a Germany from the 60s and 70s, including a retro hair salon, department store, cinema and much more. You can also trace your real ancestors in the Family Research Room. Every info board and audio station is available in English. An extraordinary amount of educational info is available during this journey so be sure to plan a few hours for this. It took us about two hours but we only listened to maybe 1/3 of the stories.
