THE PROMISE OF TELEMEDICINE

When Exceptional Medicine Meets Exceptional Telemedicine, Patients Win INSPIRED CARE FOR PATIENTS Healthcare, whether in person or via telemedicine, begins and ends with the ability to treat patients, improve their care, and help them back to health. Today, those goals are greatly enhanced by the use of telemedicine to connect patients and bedside care teams with dedicated teams of tele-specialists. These powerful connections are truly driving exceptional care. •

Patients are receiving enhanced access to healthcare, seeing the right provider at the right time

Specialists such as neurologists, intensivists, radiologists, and cardiologists are more readily available even in remote locations

Decreased mortality rates, reduced lengths of stay, and fewer clinical complications highlight improved care

Patients and their families have a better overall experience in the hospital by receiving timely care via telemedicine encounters

Advanced ICU Care: A Year in Review For 2019, as in all prior years, enhancing patient access to quality care, positively impacting clinical outcomes, and enhancing state-of-the-art care delivery in partnership with our clients were both goals and accomplishments. We are proud of what we and our partners achieved.

Dr. Glen Bouder, Medical Director of Critical Care at Winchester Medical Center, talks with Healthcare IT News about enhancing care team collaboration and improving patient outcomes As one of the industry’s most authoritative sources covering telemedicine and technology driving next-generation healthcare in the U.S., Healthcare IT News’ Editor Bill Siwicki recently highlighted the success of Valley Health’s partnership with Advanced ICU Care. In the article, Dr. Glen Bouder, Director of Valley Intensivists at Valley Health and Medical Director of Critical Care at Winchester Medical Center, detailed the hospital’s implementation of Advanced ICU Care’s tele-ICU service offering and how the organization’s adoption of high-acuity telemedicine addressed major challenges for the hospital, including intensivist staffing and clinical outcomes analytics. The collaborative care partnership resulted in significant positive outcomes for the hospital. During the first year of tele-ICU at Valley Health, Advanced ICU Care helped Winchester Medical Center save 125 lives, achieve a 35% to 44% reduction in ICU mortality rate, reduce ICU length of stay by 34%, reduce mortality due to sepsis, and achieve measurable improvements on best practice compliance. Dr. Bouder stated, “By looking at the data and letting bedside teams know about performance, it gave the care team a cognitive awareness around the issues. We then started to see improvements in those metrics over time. It is very helpful to have an understanding of your ICU strengths and weaknesses.” He continued, “Advanced ICU Care impressed us with their breadth of clinical experience. They have a strong history of working in different hospital settings and with facilities of various sizes and complexities. It inspired confidence that they knew what they were doing in terms of being able to help us.” ⊲
