In July 1973, a “meal site” for seniors was established at the Guadalupe Hall. The “site” was moved to the Salvation Army, then back to Guadalupe Hall, and then back to the Salvation Army. By 1979, the decision was made to rent space from the Friendship House. In 1983, after years of considerable effort by the membership, donations from many local benefactors, nine lots of land gifted by the City of Billings, and all labor donated from local Trade Unions… A NEW BUILDING! Finally! by and for the Senior Citizens! In June of 1985, the building was dedicated and became a permanent home for the SOUTH PARK SENIOR CITIZENS. There were just eighty-nine members that first year. Currently, there are over 260 official members. Much has happened over the course of the last 49 years. The Center serves hot meals on Monday and Friday provided by Adult Resource Alliance. In June 2021, breakfast and a light lunch nutrition program began on Tuesday and Thursday cooked in the Center’s kitchen by the Center’s cook. All meals are $5.00 for seniors 60 and over. We look forward to participating in the next chapter of “serving” our seniors at 901 South 30th Street. We currently host bingo, bridge, and pinochle. Watercolor painting classes, a book club, a monthly lecture by Western Heritage Center, and birthday parties are also on our schedule. We have a free library as well as a small thrift store. Thanks to the many hours put in by dedicated volunteers, we are proud to help make this building a warm and welcoming environment for all walks-of-life to feel safe and enjoy a few moments of fellowship with peers.
