Opening day - April 8

“Let me root, root, root for the home team, if they don't win it's a shame . For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out, at the old ball game!” What better way to start Opening Day of Baseball than with a tailgate party! Our bistro will be transformed into the ballpark with decorations, music, food, and drinks . Come get your hot dogs, crackerjacks, and beer before the Detroit Tigers take the field .

Poetry Slam - April 14

Join Zach, Director of Life Enrichment, in the Bistro for a Poetry Slam featuring poems by Michigan poets . Please feel free to bring your own poetry to share at this unique event celebrating National Poetry Month .

Mother’s Day Tea and Kentucky Derby Watch Party - May 7

We will kick off this fun and family-filled day with Mother’s Day High Tea to the sounds of renowned Harpist, Chanah Ambuter, followed by a Kentucky Derby watch party with refreshments and Mint Juleps! The Kentucky Derby is a horse race held annually in Louisville, capping the two-week-long Kentucky Derby Festival . Come dressed to impress and show off your Derby look! Best dressed wins a prize . Family and loved ones are welcome .

Juneteenth - June 19

This week, we will commemorate this day with a documentary on Juneteenth’s history and a celebration of freedom . Juneteenth commemorates the day when emancipation reached enslaved people in the deepest parts of the South . It wasn't until June 19, 1865, two months after the Civil War ended and more than two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, that Union Gen . Gordon Granger and more than a thousand U .S . troops shared the news of freedom with the 250,000 enslaved people in the state . The anniversary of that day is celebrated as one of the bestregarded African American holidays in this country .
