Filter House, Raleigh, NC Resulting from a two week charette, Filter House explores the challenges of the glass house in a suburban context. A double-layered screen system wraps the perimeter of the house, providing the occupants the ability to control both privacy and solar heat gain. The system can be automated to respond to outdoor conditions or set to follow a daily schedule. The screens are designed to follow a rectangular path, allowing the occupant to create private courtyards on both the north and south sides of the house.

Mass House, Raleigh, NC The result of a collaborative architecture/engineering studio, Mass House explores the passive energy system of the trombe wall. By expanding the space between the exterior glazing and the L-shaped thermal mass, Mass House utilizes the traditional trombe wall cavity for both air and occupant circulation. Primary served spaces remain shielded from direct sunlight during the day, but are warmed at night by radient energy from the thermal mass. An adaptive thermal break uses thermal properties of water to regulate heat loss to the soil below.

Call Boxes, San Francisco, CA Built for a tech firm in the Tenderloin, the Call Boxes were deisgned to serve as quiet spaces for sales calls in an open concept office. In addition to providing refuge from office noise, the client required the Call Boxes be easy to disassemble and move in case they outgrew their current office. I met this goal with the use of french cleats hidden within the wall sections, allowing for disassembly with minimal hardware removal.

Call Box I Needed immediately by the client, Call Box I was designed and built in five days to serve as a mockup for the office to beta test. The plan of Call Box I is divided into two zones. A transparent zone is marked by a 4’x6’ window opposite the entry. The work zone houses the desk and task lighting.

Call Box II Call Box II incorporates new elements based on client feedback from Call Box I. A lighting cove that wraps the ceiling plane provides illumination while eliminating echo inside the box. A custom barn door prevents interior sound from escaping out into the surrounding office. Rather than one large panel, Call Box II has multiple smaller windows, creating sight lines to key office spaces. Call Box II 13

Water Lab, Durham, NC Designed and built for the HUB Farm, Water Lab is an outdoor floating classroom utilized by the students of Durham Public Schools. The Water Lab is composed of five primary elements; deck, wall, roof, gutter, and gangway. These elements work together to create a multiple zones for classroom activities. In addition to dividing spaces, the wall also houses blackboards, work surfaces, stools, and storage lockers. A break in the wall creates a threshold below with an infloor fiberglass grate. Above the wall and entryway, the gutter collects rainwater from the butterfly roof and carries it away from the structure where it can cascade into the pond.

554 & 556 Edenton, Raleigh, NC 554 & 556 Edenton are two modern shotgun houses designed and built by Raleigh Architecture and Construction Companies. Built as infill projects on two narrow lots, the houses restored the rythm of the street while injecting new life into the once thriving neighborhood. As an architect intern with the firm, I served as the on-site representative, managing daily operations of the job site. I coordinated subcontractors, ensuring they understood their roles in fulfilling the design intent of the projects. I scheduled and attended inspections throuhout the build process. Additionally, I built and installed custom features such as stairs, built-ins, and cabinetry, as well as other general construction responsibilities.
