AFTER 38 YEARS, FOAM AND FABRIC OF FLETCHER STILL GOING STRONG Foam and Fabrics Outlet of Fletcher is still in business after 38 years and will continue to serve the community for years to come. Foam and Fabric Outlet of Fletcher is a familyowned company. Owner, Allen Gurley, is from Marion, North Carolina. The Gurley family has been in the fabric business since 1965. In 1972, Allen started working for his uncle, Bobby Gurley, in Asheville. In 1976, Allen purchased the Fletcher store. The business started in a small concrete building with only one table of drapery, one table of upholstery, a small selection of dress goods and foam. Thread was 19 cents per spool, buttons were two cents each and patterns were 75 cents each. Allen later added two more rooms to the building. In 1992, Allen bought the property at 3049 Hendersonville Highway in Fletcher and built the building where the business is located today. In 1986, Allen opened another location in Swannanoa named Carolina Fabric Outlet. As business continued to grow, Carolina Fabric Outlet moved to its current location in Black Mountain. Foam and Fabrics Outlet of Fletcher offers a variety of fabrics by the pound, including comforters and finished and non-finished items, such as lace, curtains, pillows and other home dĂŠcor. They also carry upholstery, drapery, quilting fabric and automobile fabric and a large selection of foam which can be cut to specific needs. They also offer memory foam, close-cell foam, pillows and rubber matting for floors. For the past 38 years, Allen has been an integral part of the Fletcher community. He has offered his employees many benefits not normally afforded them by small businesses. His appreciation of his employees is evident in the amount of long-term dedication they have given him. Store manager, Nancy Stevens, has been with Allen for 37 years. Assistant manager, Janey Long, has worked with Allen for 18 years and warehouse operator, Kenny Israel, has been employed for 30 years. There are several other employees who have dedicated years of employment from two through 23 years of service. Foam and Fabrics Outlet of Fletcher is located at 3049 Hendersonville Highway in Fletcher. Hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
