Figure 5.6 Engagement and Lack of Engagement Themes Similar to the engagement experience, in experiences that lacked engagement, themes that have an external focus are of greater importance than themes that have an internal self-focus. In particular, external factors appear to be of greater importance in low engagement activities than high engagement activities, and inner-self factors appear to be of less importance in low engagement activities than high engagement activities. This is also illustrated at Figure 5.5. There are some factors that relate essentially either to engagement or to diminished engagement.
