In 1805 in Paris, Henri-Louis Pernod created what was to become the most celebrated spirit of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Absinthe has had a mysterious history. And it has played a notable role in the fine art movements from Impressionism to Art Nouveau and the corresponding literary movements. Van Gogh, Picasso, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Manet all loved their absinthe and produced paintings with absinthe included in the work. The exact secrets of its exotic yellow glow and unique licorice taste are closely guarded, but its flavor derives from a distillation of star anise and aromatic plants and herbs. The original absinthe formula was often drunk in the cafes in Paris in the 1800s and beyond. Picasso’s 1912 painting, shows its popularity in France at the beginning of the 20th century. Over the years, Pernod Fils has been refined. The company has reduced the alcohol content and incorporated higher quality ingredients to improve its flavor, smoothness, and safety. Enjoy it as the French do, mixed in a tall glass over ice with five parts water, or try it with orange or cranberry juice, cola, tonic, or simply poured over ice served with a wedge of lemon.

1. The capital letter B originally was a pictogram of a house in Egyptian hieroglyphs. 2. By 1050 BC, the Phoenicians altered the image into a backwards, jagged e and called it beth. 3. The Greeks restyled the letter B and called it beta. 4. The modern B came from the ancient Romans. The top curve of the B was removed and became the lowercase B.
