25 YEARS OF DIFFERENT BY DESIGN

We have reached an exciting new era in Acorn’s story as we mark our 25th anniversary, twenty-five years of driving forward our mission to create desirable places to live and work with an emphasis on design, sustainability and the future needs of communities.
Since the establishment of Acorn in 1995, we have carved out our position as specialists in bespoke medium sized, award-winning housing developments and joint ventures. We pride ourselves on being ‘different by design’, putting creativity and sustainability at the forefront of every development to ensure that our residents get the very best from a modern home, in areas where the need for quality new homes outstrips supply across the South West of England, London and South Wales.
During this time, we have also successfully launched Acorn Property Invest, which offers Sophisticated (both Certified & Self-Certified) and High Net Worth Investors the opportunity to invest into the property market through innovative products, opening the doors to a different kind of investment*.
We are proud that our in-house team which includes architects, town planners, surveyors, construction managers and interior designers can be trusted to make the most of every opportunity. Together with our research, sales and marketing teams, we specialise in creating and delivering the best homes possible for each individual site and each community.
Community is always at the heart of what we do, and we strive to put the needs of our stakeholders firstcreating homes that are accessible for a range of buyers from first time buyers and growing families to downsizers or investors. We love what we do, and we hope that you do too.

Acorn Green represents our unique holistic approach to carbon reduction and our commitment to creating inspiring new communities which fulfil the current and future needs of our residents’ whilst respecting and protecting our environment.
We pride ourselves on each Acorn development being individually and intelligently designed and built to the highest quality - our vision is to ensure that everything we do has a positive impact and contribution to the local surroundings, creating a true sense of place and an inclusive community where residents and nature can grow and flourish long after we complete our role in the building of the scheme.
Our unique selling point in the green housebuilding industry is that we look at each site individually and holistically, so in contrast to a lot of other housebuilders where a one size fits all approach to carbon reduction suits their work, we are totally bespoke. Our other key USP within this is our commitment to re-using existing buildings – as Carl Elefante, former president of the American Institute of Architects once said - “the greenest building is the one that already exists” – studies have
suggested that it takes between 10 and 80 years for a new building that is 30 per cent more efficient than an average-performing existing building to overcome the negative climate change impacts related to the construction process. We’re unique in this sense – many other UK housebuilders wouldn’t take on the challenges that we embrace with open arms. This is something we’ve been doing for many years and Acorn Green will strive to help residents easily understand what green living really means from an Acorn perspective.
Acorn Green however, goes beyond our design principles and we want this to be inherently part of our people culture too. From recycling, to switching over to renewable energy providers and the newly introduced cycle-to-work scheme, we are always looking for new ideas to get this embedded in our Acorn culture.
Our design process
Incorporating Acorn Green into our design process has become second nature - we work closely with external design teams at all stages to make sure they understand our green agenda. We will tap into new ideas that our consultants bring to the table and bring in lessons learned from our other projects to guide the design process; we are privileged to have vast knowledge and experience within Acorn that we can tap in to, in both projects and people.
The benefit of an Acorn site is that you can stand back and take a more complete view of sustainability; each site is different and that’s part of the beauty of an Acorn designed home.
The exciting part of a sustainable process is that it is forever evolving, and investments
in the industry mean that there are more and more innovative technologies that are enabling us to move faster than the government guidelines. We are committed to working on a timeline with our consultant partners Energist on how we become a net Carbon Zero company as soon as realistically possible, and we’ve partnered with a carbon offsetting company, Wanderlands, to offset any residual carbon from our offices and development sites.
We believe a focus on sustainability and wellbeing should be at the forefront of everything we do. We believe in Acorn Green.
“the greenest building is the one that already exists”
Carl Elefante - FAIA
We plan to focus the further growth of our business in the South West – an area with positive population growth, great employment opportunities, a wonderful lifestyle, a great work-life balance, improved transportation links and superb schools – the demand for high quality and reasonably priced housing far outweighs supply. Alongside this we will maintain a wide variety of projects in each region to meet demand from a broad selection of buyers ensuring Acorn’s business is not reliant on any one sector or region and therefore ensuring we have developments accessible to all buyers.
Sustainable homes are a top priority for us. As we have outlined in our Acorn Green initiative, we uphold the highest standards of sustainability and design throughout all our schemes. We are continuously looking at ways to improve the environmental impact of our projects, and in doing so are at the forefront of innovative technologies and are implementing design strategies to make this happen.
We plan to continue to champion our response to the housing crisis in this country which goes beyond the
architectural principles and urban design theories but deals with the future needs of communities. At Acorn we work to understand a community’s history and aspirations, their lifestyle and collective memories and seek to create animated and functional urban forms to reinforce and enhance a neighbourhood’s character and flavour. We focus on sites of identifiable local demographic and economic need.
All-in-all, the future has never looked more exciting – here’s to the next 25 years!
