INVITATION On behalf of the ACOG District I Planning Committee, we invite you to join us for our Annual District Meeting, to be held October 4–6, 2019, at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine. This year’s meeting theme is Beat the Burnout and is designed to explore lifestyle changes and habits that can help you decrease incidences of burnout, build resilience, and enhance work-life balance. Understanding that there is a link between a healthy mind and body, we will begin each day with a short stretching, walking, or running activity. Talks and breakout sessions featuring guest speakers who are experts in their field will follow. This year’s meeting features an exciting slate of activities. In keeping with our theme, you’ll learn practical strategies for surviving stress, understand how to engage in sustainable giving behaviors to maximize your sense of well-being, and discover the power of appreciation and how to show it. You’ll also have the chance to attend breakout sessions on emotional intelligence and leadership, financial wellness, positive interventions, and other topics that will give you the tools to maintain and improve upon your well-being. There will also be many opportunities to relax, enjoy yourself, and put the lessons that you’ve learned about well-being into action: yoga, team-building relays, painting, and birdwatching are just a few of the activities you’ll be able to take advantage of at the Samoset. Our family movie night will give you a chance to reconnect with your family and guests and share what you’ve learned. There is nothing quite like the beauty of mid-coastal Maine in the fall. Come and enjoy the inspiring views, history, and culture of this celebrated region. Nearby Airports Portland International Jetport is two hours away from the Samoset Resort. Bangor International Airport is one hour and 40 minutes away from the Samoset Resort. Knox County Airport is 10 minutes from the Samoset Resort. It offers direct commuter service from Boston on Cape Air.

This is Maine. Relax and enjoy! From the Samoset Resort, you can easily travel to the coastal cities of Rockland, Rockport, and Camden. Each city embodies the beauty, history, and culture that is unique to Maine. Schedule time to visit art galleries and historic landmarks, get some exercise, or simply tour the historic harbor. The Arts The Farnsworth Art Museum showcases Maine’s role in American art with paintings and sculptures by renowned artists with Maine connections, most notably the Wyeths.
Historic Landmarks A visit to Maine is not complete without a visit to a lighthouse. The Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse is a fun, short hike from the Samoset and is an enjoyable place to take in the ocean breeze and view. Take a selfie with Andre the Seal statue! Andre has a long history and is a beloved and famous mascot of Rockport, Maine. If boating is your passion, be sure to stop at the Sail Power & Steam Museum, where you can visit sail-making rigging rooms and see early engines, tools, models, and a working lime kiln.
