A Word about Butterscotch Baby . . .

Butterscotch Baby Total Body Experience is a small natural ingredient -based bath and body product line located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She was born as a result of our research of natural ingredient-based products offered from assorted manufacturers. During our selfeducation of their ingredients, we discovered there was a lot more to be offered in the realm of hair & skin care; especially to those of Afro-Asiatic descent. And keeping our own personal care issues in mind and our quest to find products suited to them, we knew there had to be others in the same pursuit of that ‘perfect product’. Our goal is to provide formulations as close to perfect as we can for each individual we service!

Our Products . . .

All of our soaps and personal care items are handmade, using only 100% all vegetable oils and butters (except for our emu oil products, which are noted), natural botanicals and preservatives, and the highest quality essential and phthalate-free fragrance oils. Due to deforestation of tropical rainforests in Asia, we do not use palm oil in any of our products. We also use no sulphates, SLS, polymers, or paraben / formaldehyde based preservatives. All of our products are designed specially by us with our own recipes. Each recipe contains their own special ingredients; some of which are, sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, avocado oil, wheat germ oil, hemp seed oil, castor oil, sunflower oil, grape seed oil, and certified emu oil. Plus loads of vegetable butters, like cocoa, soy, olive, aloe, jojoba, shea, and mango butters. If you are searching for a product suitable to specific skin types, we also have specialty items to help with particular skin types.

We also offer buttermilk, whole milk , whole milk yogurt, coconut milk, and goat’s milk soaps. All of our milk soaps are 100% milk; not powdered. We make our soaps in small batches. Each is hand poured and hand cut. No two are alike. All our soaps weigh approximately 5 ounces, and are tested by thankful family, friends, and existing customers! Our soaps are cured for a minimum of 4 weeks, making for a very hard bar that is not only moisturizing, but super lathering and long lasting. Try lathering a commercially produced bar and one of ours. Notice how the lather feels softer and more moisturizing. Our products are great to give as ‘just a little something’ gift. They also make wonderful hostess gifts, wedding party gifts, attendee favors, or even just a little pampering for yourself. We currently offer over 60 varieties to choose from, with new varieties created periodically. In addition, we offer gift packs, a wedding brochure and a fundraising program. Butterscotch Baby handmade soaps are made in small batches, with all food grade vegetable oils, distilled water, aloe vera juice, milks and yogurts, premium essential and phthalate-free fragrance oils, and quality botanicals, formulated for the best care of your skin! All soaps and shampoo bars must cure for approximately 4 weeks, so all bars are not available at all times. Contact us to check for availability of bars.

The Standards $6.00 - Our most popular all-around, all purpose soaps.

African Rooibos Red - This tea offers alpha hydroxyl acid and zinc to fortify skin, and a calming, earthy fragrance.

Baby Bee - Delicate, clean "baby" scent; slightly powdery. Soft and creamy.

Candy Girl Pink Sugar - This is a delicate scent, sweet, light-hearted and innocent. It smells of cotton candy, vanilla and caramel. But it's also lightened with a fresh bergamot and has an orangey citrus top note, with touches of berries, muget, strawberry, plum, and a dry-down of dry fig leaves, musk, anise, musk and woods.

Cedar & Saffron - Fragrant cedar is infused with the sensual smoky scents of patchouli, sandalwood and vetiver, then topped with Eastern spices and a trace of white musk.

Chamomile & Honey - A whisper soft floral and oh, so sweet!

Cocoa Butter Exfoliating - This bar is the arch enemy of cellulite! Oat bran and apricot nut meal provides gentle, yet effective exfoliation along with the skin stimulating and uplifting attributes of allspice essential oil. Skin is nourished with pure coconut milk, silk protein, and the skin protecting qualities of meadowfoam seed oil.

African Black Soap There are a lot of African black soaps. Many are not as popular as others. Not because they are not as good, but simply because they have not been brought to lime light. What’s used here is Yoruba Soap. This soap, popularly known as ‘Ose Dudu' originates from western Nigeria. It is black in color and molded in balls (as sold in the local market). Yoruba soap is a very strong antiseptic soap made from cocoa pod ash, plantain peel ash, and palm kernel oil. The blackness is as a result of the charring of palm kernel to get the oil out. The palm kernel oil makes its formability high in all kinds of hard water. It is recommended for washing all kinds of skin and combating skin infection.

Beeswax Beeswax is a natural secretion of honey bees. Natural beeswax has the beautiful, sweet aroma of honey and a rich, golden color. Cosmetic beeswax is decolorized and filtered to remove any impurities. Beeswax lends emollient, softening properties to your products and works as a humectant.

Buttermilk Buttermilk is the liquid left over after butter is churned. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not high in fat at all. High in potassium, vitamin B12, calcium, riboflavin, and phosphorous. Aloe Butter Aloe Butter is an extraction of Aloe Vera using a fatty coconut fraction to produce a soft-solid which melts on contact with the skin. It aids in rapid hydration of dry skin caused by eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, sun burn, wind burn, and general chapping. Aloe butter is suitable for a variety of skin care applications including use in lotions, soaps, skin creams and lip balms. Use it to enhance moisturization.

Brazil Nut Butter Brazil Nut Butter is rich in fatty acids such as oleic and linoleic with small amounts of myristic and stearic acids along with phytosterol. It is also naturally rich in vitamins A, B, C and E. Cocoa Butter Cocoa butter is an emollient that has been used to heal and moisturize skin and also helps reduce the formation of stretch marks during pregnancy by keeping the skin supple.

Coffee Bean Butter Coffee butter is produced by hydrogenating the cold pressed oil from roasted coffee beans. The light hydrogenation process creates a butter with good oxidative stability and a smooth, silky feel. Coffee extract is being used in slimming cosmetics due to the natural caffeine content of coffee beans. In addition, the extract has been found to be a powerful antioxidant. The high content of unsaponifiable matter in coffee oil has made it popular in cosmetics too. The oil offers natural protection from ultraviolet light and is becoming a popular ingredient in sunscreen products. Coffee oil is rich in phytosterols which promote excellent moisture retention, quick penetration and good adherence in cosmetics. Coffee butter is a semi-soft, light brown colored butter with a strong aroma of coffee and is similar in properties to the coffee oil. It does not have caffeine in it as caffeine is a water soluble component of the bean but the aroma is of pure coffee!

Cupuacu Butter Cupuacu Butter is obtained from the fruit seed of the Cupuacu tree. It has a high capacity for water absorption and is therefore an excellent emollient for cosmetic formulations, often being compared functionally with Lanolin.

Hemp Seed Butter Hemp seed butter is made by combining the fatty fractions and unsaponifiables of cold pressed hemp seed oil with hydrogenated hemp seed oil obtained from unsterilized hemp seeds. The butter is exceptionally rich in essential fatty acids that nourish the skin and helps reduce moisture loss from the skin.

Kokum Butter Kokum butter is obtained from the Indian tree Garcinia Indica. It is used in skin care products because of its ability to soften skin and heal ulcerations and fissures of lips, hands and soles of feet. Kokum butter helps reduce degeneration of the skin cells and restores elasticity. Use kokum butter is soaps, balms, belly balms, foot care products and other emollient skin treatments.

Mango Butter Mango butter is obtained from the kernels of the mango tree. It has a high content of stearic acid which makes it similar to cocoa butter. Mango butter has good emolliency and lends protection against the sun. It is said to prevent drying of the skin and formation of wrinkles. Mango butter also reduces degeneration of skin cells and restores elasticity.

Olive Butter Olive butter is the butter obtained from cold pressed olives. The extracted oil undergoes a unique refining process to collect the unsaponifables. Olive butter possesses all of the natural qualities of olive oil and is similar in feel to shea butter. It has excellent spreadability and can be used as massage butter.

Shea Butter African healers have used shea butter for thousands of years as the ideal treatment for dry or aging skin. Its high content of non-saponifiable fatty acids gives it the ability to moisturize and retain the elasticity of the skin. Shea butter also helps to protect the skin against the damaging effects of the sun while repairing cellular degeneration.

Aloe Vera Oil Aloe Vera Oil is produced by macerating Aloe Vera leaves in soybean oil. By using the oil, you can add the healing properties of aloe Vera to your product without needing to worry about the bacterial and mold growth that can occur when using the pure gel. Aloe Vera gel can be effective in healing various skin disorders including cancers, ulcers, lesions and general wounds. Aloe is also a well-known burn remedy and is used in trauma centers throughout the states.

Research has shown that Aloe Vera gel penetrates human skin almost four times faster than water. Because of its ability to penetrate so quickly, it is a wonderful addition to moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners and shaving gels.

When combined with other healing agents, aloe Vera helps these substances penetrate the skin easily carrying them to the deeper layers of the skin. Aloe is believed to have an anti-aging effect on skin. Aloe Vera also acts as an antiinflammatory pain-reliever. The anti-inflammatory properties make it useful in the treatment of acne and other dermatological problems. Almond Oil, Sweet (water dispersible) Sweet almond oil is a great emollient for softening and conditioning the skin.

It is well suited for eczema, psoriasis and itchy, dry and inflamed skin. It is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E. Sweet almond oil is light and penetrates easily making it a great massage oil or after bath oil.

Apricot Kernel Oil (water dispersible) Apricot Kernel is a light but rich oil which is especially good for sensitive skin, as well as for and skin that is inflamed or dry. It can be used alone or in massage and is used quite often in lip balms and creams. It is particularly helpful for dehydrated, delicate, mature or sensitive skin. It has a high vitamin A content.

Argan Oil Argan oil is a clear yellow liquid, which is rich in vitamin E, antioxidants and carotenes. Argan oil is a multi-purpose oil, heavily used in anti-aging products because it is rich in skin-replenishing components, including flavanoids, oleic acid, linoleic acid and fatty acids.

Avocado Oil (water dispersible) This highly therapeutic oil is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B5 (Panthothenic acid), Vitamin D, E, minerals, protein, lecithin and fatty acids. It is a useful, penetrating nutrient for dry skin and eczema. Avocado oil is said to have healing and regenerating qualities.

Coconut Oil, Fractionated Fractionated Coconut Oil is the liquid fraction of the solids of virgin coconut oil. It is lightweight and easily absorbed into skin.

Coconut Oil, Virgin Virgin coconut oil, as it has come to be known, differs from regular refined, bleached and deodorized coconut oil in that it is extracted from freshly cut coconuts, not dried copra. It has not been subjected to high temperatures, solvents or refinement procedures. Virgin Coconut Oil is obtained from freshly harvested coconut meat that has been grated and then expeller pressed to produce the coconut milk. This milk is then centrifuged to separate the milk into coconut solids, water and oil. This separation is so thorough that the oil has no moisture left in it to promote rancidity, and the oil does not need to undergo any further heating to remove moisture. Virgin coconut oil is a light, penetrating oil with excellent shelf life and stability. It smells of fresh coconut milk and nothing less. Evening Primrose Oil Evening primrose is high in gamma-linolenic acid (an essential fatty acid) making it an exceptional skin nourishing oil. The human body does not produce essential fatty acids such as linoleic and linolenic acids. It, therefore, is important to get these nutrients through diet and topical application. Essential fatty acids inhibit bacterial growth and allow our systems to defend against infection and inflammation. Evening Primrose oil is highly recommended for dry skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis.

Flax Seed Oil Flax seed oil is an important oil for those suffering from eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne and aging skin. Flax seeds are a rich source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) an Omega-3 series of essential fatty acids because the body cannot make them and must obtain them from external sources. ALA is needed because it is the precursor to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and the series 3 Prostaglandins, which are necessary for the regulation of cellular activity. Series 3 Prostaglandins protect the body against the effects of high blood pressure, inflammation and water retention by inhibiting the production of series 2 prostaglandins, which promote inflammation and water retention. The antiinflammatory benefits of flax seed oil can also be seen when it is used externally. Topical use of flax seed oil allows the body to absorb some of the essential fatty acids necessary for healthy cellular activity. It helps soften and heal skin abrasions, reduce the swelling and redness of lesions due to skin disease and improves the overall health of the skin.

Grapeseed Oil A light and penetrating oil made from the seeds of grapes after the wine is pressed. It's high in vitamin E and contains essential fatty acid and linoleic acid.

It is low in saturated fat, contains natural chlorophyll and valuable antioxidants. This oil is very rich in vitamins and minerals. Since it is slightly astringent, it tightens and tones the skin and will not aggravate acne.

Hazelnut Oil Hazelnut oil is a wonderfully light, penetrating oil that is slightly astringent. It, therefore, makes a good oil for acne prone skin. Hazelnut oil is high in essential fatty acids and is soothing and healing to dry, irritated skin. Studies have shown that it can filter sun rays and is commonly used in sun care products.

Hemp Seed Oil Hemp oil has the lowest amount of saturated fatty acids and the highest amount of the polyunsaturated essential fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic acids) making it a key nutritive ingredient in anti-inflammatory skin care formulations. Hemp oil is said to aid in the healing of skin lesions, dry skin, inflammations of the skin and joints.

Jojoba Oil Jojoba is not actually oil but is a liquid wax. Jojoba offers the traits of both to make it a great ingredient in soaps, creams, lotions, balms and massage oils. It is highly penetrating and closely resembles our natural sebum. Use it in facial blends to remove excess oils and to help balance the natural skin oils. Jojoba contains a natural anti-inflammatory called “myristic acid� and a good oil for arthritis.

Kukui Nut Oil Kukui nut oil is high in linoleic and linolenic acids which are essential fatty acids vital for the metabolism of healthy skin. Vitamins A, C and E are added to stabilize the oil. Kukui nut oil is easily absorbed by the skin and therefore makes a wonderful massage oil. It soothes irritated, sunburned, or burned skin.

Surveys have shown that it can help relieve itchy, dry skin due to eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.

Macadamia Nut Oil (water dispersable) The high content of palmitoleic acid also makes macadamia nut oil an effective anti-oxidant. It is suitable for all skin types but is particularly good for dry or mature skin because of its high percentage of palmitoleic acid.

Mango Oil Mango oil is an oil fraction obtained during the processing for mango butter.

It is a semi solid oil that melts readily on the skin.

Neem Oil This is a thick, dark colored oil. The neem seed kernel is very rich in fatty acids, contains vitamin E and other essential amino acids. Neem oil is an excellent moisturizing oil that contains compounds that help to restore moisture and elasticity to the skin while it disinfects and heals.

Oat Oil Oat oil exhibits excellent emolliency and penetrating abilities. It also provides natural anti-oxidant activity. Oat oil improves the elasticity of the skin and hair.

Olive Oil Olive oil is high in oleic acid and is therefore a good skin cell regenerator. Olive oil attracts external moisture to the skin and still allows normal functions of the skin to take place (sweating, shedding of dead skin and releasing sebum). It is useful as a massage oil for rheumatic conditions and as a treatment for inflamed skin.

Perilla Seed Oil Perilla seed oil is high in Omega 3 fatty acids. The Omega 3 fatty acids have been known to exhibit antiseptic activity and may be effective against the bacteria responsible for acne. It is also believed to suppress chronic inflammation and itchiness.

Rosehip Oil Rosehip oil is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. It has natural anti-oxidant properties and is slightly astringent. It has been shown to help improve elasticity of the skin, regenerate skin cells, slow down premature aging, reduce the formation of wrinkles, and reduce scarring (prevents the formation of keloid scar tissue). Use it in face blends for maturing skin or in blends for damaged skin where the regeneration of new skin cells is needed.

The stimulation of tissue regeneration is helpful in the treatment of burns, bedsores and poorly healing wounds. It helps reduce the damaging effects of sun radiation. Sea buckthorn oil effectively combats wrinkles, dryness and other symptoms of malnourished or prematurely aging skin and is utilized in anti -aging skin creams and lotions.

Shea Oil Shea oil has all of the wonderful properties of shea butter.

Sunflower Oil, High Oleic (water dispersable) High Oleic Sunflower Oil is cold pressed from sunflower seeds specially cultivated to produce an oil high in monosaturates. The oil is naturally more stable and resistant to rancidity. It is naturally high in vitamins A, D & E, lecithin and Omega 9. The high oleic content of this sunflower oil makes it a good cell regenerating ingredient and is therefore highly recommended for mature or damaged skin. It is a good oil to use when using fragile oils such as evening primrose or hemp seed. Sunflower oil absorbs quickly and can be used in any type of formulation.

Tamanu Oil Tamanu oil, also known as Foraha oil in Africa, is obtain by mechanically crushing the dried nuts of the Tamanu tree. The oil is rich and deep in color, and it smells similar to butter pecan ice cream. Tamanu oil has a soothing effect on the skin, and it helps to relieve irritations such as sun burn, inflammation and general rashes.
