Golf Digest’s “Places to Play” Home to one of the ’18 most fun holes you can play in America’ Golf Digest – January 2011 McCullough’s Emerald Golf Links offers players a distinctly different Irish-Scottish golfing experience. Stephen Kay designed 17 holes after famed European courses. The signature 7th hole, is a tribute to architect Alister MacKenzie, who won an award for the design in 1914, but never had the opportunity to build it. Golf Digest’s “Places to Play” The Bay Course which opened in 1914 is a textbook Donald Ross seaside course, which means it has a Scottish Links-style feel. The Bay course hosted the 1942 PGA Championship. It was during this Championship that Sam Snead won his first Major. The course features classic mounding, high-faced bunkers, plus small greens with subtle undulations. The Bay course is dramatically affected by the severity of the winds rolling off of the Atlantic Ocean. The Pines is more of a traditional course carved out of the Jersey pinelands. Designed by Toomey & Flynn and opened in 1929, the Pines course stretches nearly 6,800 yards. The course features tree lined fairways and a plethora of well-placed sand bunkers that require precisely struck irons and tee shots.
