Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, personal blogs, and "breaking news" networks have the potential to convey information in false or misleading ways, and to report the news prior to obtaining facts and checking their accuracy.

"Hands up! Don't Shoot!" ultimately turned out to be a false narrative. However, before the dust had settled and the truth was ultimately revealed by a U.S. Department of Justice investigation months later, protesters had laid to waste the downtown business district of Ferguson, Missouri; several police officers and scores of protesters had been injured; two NYPD officers had been senselessly assassinated while sitting in their patrol car; and two Ferguson area police officers had been ambushed and seriously injured by a protester sniper. Paul Friedman, M.A., Ph.D., J.D. "Honesty is the best policy. If I lose mine honor, I lose myself." William Shakespeare wrote about the internal need for honesty, integrity and honor over five hundred years ago and the same principles withstand the test of time. Too many times, we have experienced the "hired gun" expert who will say anything that the attorney wants them to say. I have been guilty of watching the same movie time and time again and thinking there is going to be a different ending. In the litigation setting, I have been naive enough to think that we have taken a position which is beyond clear, only to have an adverse expert come in with an opinion that defied common sense. Worse yet, I have been in the courtroom when the rogue jury bought the absurd argument; although, that happens infrequently.
