(Jake) DeRyke, Iowa City, Iowa; and Harriet (Ivan) Van Veldhuizen, Sanborn, Iowa and sister-in-law, Eleanor (Henry) Glawe, Slayton. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen; an infant son, Dennis and one brother, Paul Blankers. Silver Hills ACDs John & Helen Blankers named their Australian Cattle Dog Kennel “Silver Hills” after the silver Charolais cattle dotting the pasturelands near their home in Minnesota. They were lifetime members of the Australian Cattle Dog Club of America and even after Helen’s passing, John continued with the help of his children to breed. He attended the national specialty nearly every year as his health permitted with his second wife, Evie. Many of the ACDs in the US today have some Silver Hills in their pedigree as their influential dogs served as foundation stock for several kennels including Drywood, SilverDust, Bushranger, Keltoi, and many others.
