Memorial Day in Memorial Park

Bring the family to Memorial Park for an afternoon of fun activities to celebrate Memorial Day. Music, crafts, children’s games and activities are planned. Program Date: Monday, May 27 Time: noon – 3:00 p.m. Fee: Free and open to the public! Location: Memorial Park 706-613-3580

Snake Day

It is the year of the snake, so what better time to surround yourself with these scaly creatures. Enjoy an afternoon exploring the misunderstood and secret world of snakes. Touch a snake or two, explore the amazing diversity of our native Georgia snakes and a few non-native ones, too. Crafts, hands-on activities and presentations are part of the day. “Dog Days of Summer” at Memorial Park

Bring your dog to the park for a day of fun activities and learn about animal behavior, pet nutrition, care and first aid. Music, educational sessions and activities are planned. May Is Older Americans Month

Painting in the Park

Calling all painters, sculptors, doodlers, experts and beginners! We are going to have a 3-week painting group that will paint basic designs onto canvas. This is a new social group that we hope to continue to as part of our ongoing programs. We will also enjoy refreshments including fruit tray, cheeses and sparkling cider. Register by April 29. Ages: 50 and older Date: Tuesdays, May 7, 14 & 21 Time: 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. Fee: No fee if you bring your own materials, a fee of $8 will be charged to utilize community center materials. Pancake Breakfast and Basic Health Screening

Join us for a pancake breakfast with a guest speaker regarding healthcare essentials for adults. Blood pressure screening, auditory testing, vision screening and more. There will be healthy giveaways, tips for couponing to save but also keep our saving healthy. Please register by May 1 for this open house event. Photography Contest

We are having an open digital photography contest for individuals 50 and above. Our focus is health, people, nature and parks. If you would like your photo to be included please submit to marci.summer@athensclarkecounty.com by May 24. There will be prizes for the top three contributors to the contest. Healthcare BINGO NEW!

May is Older American’s Month, so our May BINGO group will focus on all things health related. Prizes will include healthcare and safety items that everyone should have in their homes. Thermometers, smoke detectors, First Aid supplies and some other surprises! This is an open house event, no registration is required.
