Our History at a Glance...
Academy of Learning opened its first college in Thornhill, Ontario, and expanded out west to British Columbia in 1990. Today, college locations can be found across Canada in Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Northwest Territories and British Columbia. At Academy of Learning, our unique training approach and visionary initiatives have attributed to our success by identifying the gap between a formal education and the realities of the working world. Our distinct approach to learning shifts away from teaching in the traditional lecture format to an on-site, facilitated, learning-bydoing method. This approach to training encompasses comprehensive vocational diploma programs along with short, effective certificate courses.
www.academyoflearning.com
In 1987 the first Academy of Learning college opened its doors and since then has been recognized as a training leader, offering a wide range of training programs that is relied on by students, employers and government agencies.
Our standardized curriculum is consistent across our network of colleges throughout Canada, which has been developed by the Academic Division at our Regional Franchisor Office, and is delivered through the Integrated Learning™ System (ILS) - a competency-based method of learning that integrates all five senses. Students learn by doing, not by just listening. ILS is exclusive to Academy of Learning. Our customized programs allow us to meet the need for convenient and effective training at an affordable cost to the student. Today Academy of Learning offers 35 registered diploma programs and 17 registered certificate programs that are delivered in a variety of ways. This includes written material, online instruction, audio lectures, simulated labs and virtual. In addition, students have access to all of the required equipment and material to successfully complete their program, along with the support provided by certified instructors/facilitators. In today’s business world where quality training is essential to career success, we continuously strive to meet the needs of our students by providing the best quality career training that works!

Methods of Learning

Integrated Learning™ System (ILS) Course materials and instructions provide an all encompassing learning experience using multisensory learning styles and preferences through student workbooks, media presentations, and hands-on exercises. These learning styles are supported by an on-site qualified college facilitator. This learning style also applies to Academy of Learning’s Online ILS Hybrid courses.
Instructor-led Lesson content is delivered to students in a live lecture format. These courses follow the traditional delivery of content by an instructor, based on daily standardized lesson plans that consist of approved curriculum. When using this method of delivery, the instructor presents lessons on the course topics, administers quizzes, tests, assignments, and exams, monitors student progress and attendance, and addresses students’ questions, issues, and concerns.
Online Learning Supported by a Qualified College Facilitator or Online Instructor Students complete course materials presented within a comprehensive online system. This system incorporates online lectures that combine with access to instructional materials, simulated labs, exercises, as well as quizzes, review questions, or pre- and post-tests. In this delivery method, students are supported by a qualified online instructor or an on-site qualified college facilitator.
Learning Supported by a Qualified Off-site Instructor Students are provided with course content that includes all of the required courseware and are supported by a live technical instructor during regular business hours. Students have access to an instructor via e-mail outside of regular business hours.
Virtual Learning Academy of Learning has turned the page by applying technology in a whole new style of learning. Students will have the opportunity of learning and participating in a virtual classroom. Courseware and lessons are delivered utilizing textbooks, software, and online digital media, in addition to a live lecture every day. With the click of a button, students enter the Virtual Classroom where their Instructor is waiting to deliver a live lesson and answer questions in real time.
