FADE IN: EXT. KNOLLS LINCOLN PLAZA - DAY It is a cool SPRING afternoon with the gray sky and bright white clouds floating around the city of STAGGER CITY. It is 3:10 PM. In the KNOLLS LINCOLN, a large plaza on the city's Westside, its largest tenant, RULLO SISTERS SUPER MARKET, a locally owned grocery store sits in the middle of the complex. It is a hustle and bustle day for many as they rush in and out of the store. The store's double doors open and LAUREN SHIRE, 27, a strikingly beautiful housewife and her six year old daughter, ABBY walk out. Lauren is holding a big BROWN BAG of groceries in her left arm and holding Abby's small hand with her right. Abby is gripping a little light brown canvas bag with the words "My Little Shopping Bag" on it. LAUREN Well, Abby. Our van is parked way over there. Here take my hand. Abby smiles as she takes Lauren's hand. From behind them we can see the lot is jampacked with CARS and PEOPLE. EXT. PARKING LOT - CONTINUOUS Lauren and Abby get to the family MINI VAN. They squeeze between another car. The mini van has a sliding door. Lauren lets goes of Abby's hand. Lauren's purse is on her right shoulder but her keys are in her coat pocket. She reaches in and takes out the key remote for the van. Lauren presses the OPEN SIDE button of the remote. There is a light blip of noise before the side door opens. As Lauren is about to put the bag in the van. She smiles at Abby who looks at her mother with a smile of LOVE, that would have lifted that whole parking lot of people with warmth. As Lauren turns to put the bag in the van. VOICE Lady, give me your purse. Huh..

LAUREN

VOICE I said. Give me your purse. Right now.

2. CONTINUED: Lauren's senses come back. She realizes that there is a MAN no more than 35 in a dirty flannel jacket and wearing wrinkled beige DOCKER like pants aiming a nine millimeter GUN at her. Even at young age, Abby can feel something is wrong as she moves a few steps back as her mom waves her back. LAUREN (quivering) Here, here take my purse. She takes the purse off her shoulder. The robber looks around as Lauren gives him the purse. ROBBER (looking into the purse and at Lauren) Is there a lot of money in here? (trying to hold the gun and look in) LAUREN There is a little money and some credit cards. ROBBER Credit cards? What am I going to do with those. As soon as I leave you will cancel them. LAUREN No, I won't. Lauren is clearly scared now, but trying to remain calm for her and Abby's survival. Again, she waves Abby back. Abby knows her mom is acting strange. Lauren knows that she has made the mistake of telling him about the credit cards. ROBBER I need money not credit cards. Money, money. The robber starts to hyperventilate. Lauren is frozen not knowing what to do. Abby is back from her mom but trying to stay close. The robber has his eyes closed and breathing hard. He opens his eyes and raises the gun.

In an instant there is a loud BANG. We can see from a side view and a flash of LIGHT and for a moment we see Lauren standing then her body slowly falls backward.

3. EXT. PARKING LOT - CONTINUOUS There are PEOPLE in the parking lot who hear the loud bang and look up. But, after seeing no one reacting to anything; most think it is a car's backfire and continue to put groceries in the car and going about their lives without knowing the danger so close to them. Lauren's body lands with a concrete thump her eyes are open but her life is gone. The grocery bag she was holding spills its contents of ORANGES, APPLES and SOUP CANS. Lauren's head lands at two small TENNIS SHOES. Abby's small eyes look down at her mom, then at the ROBBER who now is pointing the smoking gun at her. ROBBER I didn't see you. That was your mommy wasn't it? Abby doesn't answer but stare at her mother's murderer with laser burning intensity. ROBBER (CONT'D) You don't want to be orphan. Believe me, I know. You will never be right after what you just saw. I am doing you a favor. Abby's face is brave. The robber looks at her. His finger is on the gun's trigger. There is a split moment and the finger goes back. Again, we see from the side, the robber and a flash. There is another loud bang that echoes throughout the lot. Before the bang sound dissipates, two MEN with orange safety vest dive at the robber and ram him into the side of the mini van leaving a large imprint. He is wrestled down to the ground by them. The robber loses the GUN and its slides away near the feet of Lauren as we move up her lifeless body, we reach her face, a beautiful face that has the shocked look of fear and death. We pass the spilled grocery bag and see the little shopping bag that Abby was carrying in an upright position. Then, we come upon two small TENNIS SHOES pointing upward. CUT TO:

4. EXT. PARKING LOT - LATER The CRIME SCENE PERIMETER area where Lauren's MINIVAN is has been surrounded by yellow "Crime Scene: Do Not Cross" tape. The CAR that was next to the minivan has been removed. Crime lab investigator, DIANE WUE, 26, is closing her huge crime material gathering CASE. She is done gathering evidence. Even though it is almost an open and closed case. The on-lookers are wondering what has happened and others know what happened. They heard and saw the aftermath. Local TV news crews are set up behind the yellow tape. The CORONER'S van is waiting for the crime lab to finish its work. Police cruisers are scattered around the perimeter of the parking lot. EXT. POLICE CRUISER - CONTINUOUS The TWO MEN who tackled the robber are detectives. They are MARQUIS REYNOLDS, worker and BARON REYNOLDS, 24 a fellow Marquis is showing what happening with listens and nods agreeing.

talking with 23, an construction construction worker. the tackle. Baron

MARQUIS We heard something that sounded like a gunshot. Then, we looked in that direction and saw him pointing a gun. We were across the lot and starting running as fast as we could. I started yelling "he has got a gun. No one did anything. BARON As we were getting closer, he pointed the gun again. Just seconds before we got to him. He fired. (clearly upset) EXT. PARKING LOT - CONTINUOUS We move in on the back of an GREEN CROSS AMBULANCE with a POLICE OFFICER standing guard at the back door. We can see into the ambulance's back window that the paramedics are working on someone. That someone is the robber and now murderer identified as JULIUS WHITMORE, 35, a small time criminal with a lengthy record. INT. AMBULANCE - CONTINUOUS Whitmore is in pain because his left shoulder was injured when he was tackled against the van by Jason and Sal.

5. CONTINUED: TWO PARAMEDICS, a male and a female are attending to him. There is another POLICE OFFICER inside. But Whitmore will not be moving; he is in a lot of pain and his wrists are held down with restrains. FEMALE PARAMEDIC We could treat his shoulder better without the restrains. POLICE OFFICER No, the restrains do not come off. EXT. PARKING LOT - CONTINUOUS Detectives ADAM TRAYLOR and MILES ORION, both 26, come up to the YELLOW CRIME SCENE tape. Officer JOHNNY SIMMONS, 28, who is watching who goes inside of the crime perimeter, moves a pole with crime tape on it to let Adam and Miles in.

*

ADAM Hey, Johnny. Hi, Adam.

JOHNNY

MILES Johnny, my friend. It has been awhile. JOHNNY Yeah, it has. The two friends touch fists. MILES This is going to be a tough one. Isn't it. JOHNNY It is going to be. Miles and Adam continue on into the crime area. Miles and Adam have been friends since college when both were Criminal Justice majors at Eastern State University (ESU) in the College Detectives (CD) Program. The CD Program gives Criminal Justice majors insight into detective work by giving them detective/police power to solve actual cases on campus.

6. CONTINUED: Miles and Adam solved a few cases at ESU. They were heavily recruited after graduation by various police forces around the country. They chose the Stagger City Police force to work together as detective partners. They have been on the force for four years, handling homicides. Stagger City is Adam's hometown and it has gone through many changes as any city of 75,000 would. The new jobs created by a TRUCK FACTORY has started an influx of bad elements like drugs and gun trafficking into the city. The GUNS are coming in Stagger City were usually used in criminal on criminal crimes but now there's starting to be a shift in the pattern. Recently, more citizens are becoming victims of crime with the illegal guns. Miles and Adam are walking towards the two white bulky sheets lying on the ground. They are met by Diana who is looking through her notebook. DIANE Hi, Detectives. MILES AND ADAM Hey, Diana. MILES What do you have? DIANE The shooter was caught. He is in the ambulance over there. (pointing to the ambulance) He was tackled by two guys, seconds after he fired on the little girl. MILES We had that heard two subjects were down. But, a little girl. DIANE Yes, a six year old. Here is the information sheet on the little girl and her mother. Mother?

MILES

DIANE He shot and killed the mother, too. Diana gives a stunned Miles, the SHEET and he starts to scan it. Adam is numbed for a moment and then comes back.

(CONTINUED)

7. CONTINUED: (2) ADAM Who is this guy, the shooter? DIANE (flipping a notebook and finding the sheet with the information) His name is Julius Whitmore, age 31. He has done minor offenses: shoplifting and purse snatches. He has never held down a job for more than two weeks. ADAM Why murder? DIANE Somehow, he bought a gun. Simon checked the gun he used. It is another one of the cheap nine millimeters with no serial numbers and no way to trace it. Miles looks up from scanning the sheet, then glances at the ambulance and then something else catches his attention. ADAM It was different when they were shooting themselves for drug deals but now they are robbing and shooting innocent citizens. DIANE (nodding in agreement) All these nine mills plus high end rifles and semi automatics. We can't seem to stop them from coming into the city. ADAM But, to shoot a little girl and her mother in cold blood. This has gone too far. (shaking his head) Adam sees Miles walking towards the small covered sheet. DIANE The manager inside said that the mother and daughter always shopped there and usually the father was with them.

(CONTINUED)

8. CONTINUED: (3) ADAM Man, that is too bad. Is someone working on contacting the husband? DIANE Someone is. He is not home. We have sent an unit over there. ADAM (looking at the crime scene) Good, is the crime lab done? DIANE Yes, we are. The coroner's office will be taking Abby and Lauren soon. ADAM Alright.(thinking for a moment, if there is anything else he needs to ask) Thanks, Diane. DIANE You're welcome. Excuse me, I have to talk to Simon. Adam nods as Diane walks away. Adam sees that Miles wearing medical gloves has pulled the white sheet from the angelic face of Abby. He is studying the contours of her small face. His glaze is blank and emotionless. ADAM (O.S) Miles, we have to talk to some people before their minds get cold. MILES (looking at the information sheet) Her name is Abby. She is six years old. Her mother's name is Lauren. They were only getting a few groceries and they end up dead. With a gun smuggled into our city and bought by a spineless prick like that one (motioning to ambulance) who did this. Miles covers Abby's face and stands.

(CONTINUED)

9. CONTINUED: (4) MILES (CONT'D) We are told the gun runners can't be stopped. Why not? ADAM They say because their resources reach too deep. MILES Resources. We are the frigging police department; our resources reach deep, too. They are killing the innocent people. The guilty are spoon fed through the system. Adam, that's not right. They go through the system without knowing the pain and suffering that they have inflicted on their victim and families. ADAM I know, this isn't fair. MILES Abby and Lauren Shire didn't experience fairness. ADAM We need to talk to people in the lot to find out if they can add anything to this. To make sure this crime gets its justice. Adam sees that his partner is not in the mood to talk to anyone right now. ADAM (CONT'D) I am going to give you a moment. Then, catch up with me. (calm) Alright.

MILES

CUT TO: Adam leaves. Miles looks at the AMBULANCE with an OFFICER standing at the backdoors. It is MICHAEL CORRAILO, 28, a four year veteran of the force. Miles approaches Corrailo.

(CONTINUED)

10. CONTINUED: (5) Hey, Mike.

MILES (CONT'D)

MIKE Hey, Miles. MILES This is a tough one. A little girl and her mom. Yeah.

MIKE

MILES (eyes shift) Is the shooter inside? (pointing to the ambulance.) MIKE Yeah, he is in there. Those two guys mess his shoulder up when they buried him into the van. MILES (nodding) Did you see the little girl Abby? MIKE (trying to keep his composure) That's her name. I saw her before they covered her. MILES That's tough. MIKE Yeah, it is. MILES (calming) I would like to talk to the suspect before they take him. MIKE I can't let you in, because he is still getting medical attention. Plus, they are a lot of people in there already.

(CONTINUED)

11. CONTINUED: (6) MILES (fake caring) He is in a lot of pain. MIKE Yeah, he is. MILES (lower voice) Good. MIKE (straining to hear) What! Nothing.

MILES

Adam is talking to a few people. He notices that Miles is by the ambulance. He keeps listening to someone and taking notes. But, he isn't sure of his partner state of mind. MILES (CONT'D) (to Mike) I need to talk to him. MIKE I don't think you want to talk to him. I can feel your rage, you are not hiding it very well. MILES (true feelings surface) You should have rage, too. MIKE It is there, Miles. That bastard in there shot a mother and daughter in cold blood. MILES A mother and daughter like Ashley and Penny. MIKE (upset) My wife and daughter. MILES (looks away) I am sorry, Mike. I didn't mean to make it personal. It could happen to anyone's family.

(CONTINUED)

12. CONTINUED: (7) Mike doesn't hear Miles. He is staring at the two white sheet covered bodies. Then, as if he is possessed, Mike turns around and opens the ambulance door. Miles looks surprised. INT. AMBULANCE - CONTINUOUS Mike sticks his head in. There are the two paramedics and Whitmore who has RESTRAINTS holding down both of his arms on each side. He seems like he has aged more in minutes than a lifetime of aging would do. BIK JAZMAR, 28, is the officer inside the ambulance and he is giving off a "by the book vibe." MIKE Is everything alright? FEMALE Things are fine. and his shoulder be able to leave soon.

PARAMEDIC He has calmed down is reset. We will for the hospital

Whitmore looks on but doesn't speak. MIKE There is a detective out here that needs to talk to the suspect before you roll. Whitmore starts to move to try to leave but his body will not let him with tubes and IVs attached to him. MALE PARAMEDIC I am not sure. He is in a lot of pain. MIKE It will only take a minute. MALE PARAMEDIC Okay, just a minute. Whitmore's eyes become active and trying to say "no." The female paramedic checks some tubes and takes one more look at Whitmore, who has fear in his eyes. She doesn't notice or doesn't care. EXT. AMBULANCE - CONTINUOUS Mike steps back as the door are pulled back. The male paramedic climbs out first, then he turns around and helps the female paramedic by taking her hand.

(CONTINUED)

13. CONTINUED: As she lands on the ground. She sees Miles and smiles at him. Miles smiles back but it is fake. Nothing personal against the female paramedic, but he wants to get to Whitmore. MILES I will just be a minute or so. The paramedics nods okay. Miles takes a look at Mike, who gives Miles a stern look as if he wished he was going in the ambulance, too. Deep down inside, he knows what Miles may do and he will probably get in trouble for it. Adam who is still talking to some people. He almost stops in mid-sentence as he sees Miles climb into the back of the ambulance where Lauren's and Abby's killer is. This can't be good. One witness, GLORIA WINTERS, 48, remembers something and Adam is distracted from Miles. GLORIA He walked right past me. I was putting groceries in my trunk.(pointing where her car is) I noticed his clothes; there were wrinkled. Then a few moments later, I heard a loud pop. (demonstrating the sound) ADAM Didn't you want to know what the sound was or where it was coming from? GLORIA I saw people stop and look around and then, they kept on doing what they were doing. I thought it was a car's backfire. (demonstrating that sound) Adam is half listening as he is eyeing the ambulance and thinking what could Miles possibly doing in there. Mike shuts the ambulance door but not all the way leaving a small crack. INT. AMBULANCE - CONTINUOUS Miles sees Whitmore but his facial expression doesn't change. MILES (to the officer) Bik, What is up?

(CONTINUED)

14. CONTINUED: BIK Nothing, O. Just watching this guy. Watching him hard. MILES I got you. I will be just be a moment. Whitmore gets an uneasy feeling from Miles as he winces in pain. Miles goes down on one knee to get closer to Whitmore. MILES (CONT'D) (to Whitmore) My name is Detective Orion. I need to ask you a couple of questions. Whitmore is still not assured by Miles's apparent sincerity and calmness. Miles gets closer to Whitmore whose fears kick back in as he sees upclose the silver with the black handle of Miles's gun. Also, he notices that snap that holds the gun is undone. MILES (CONT'D) My question to you why did you shoot the mother and daughter. Whitmore is quiet but Miles's laser like stare is burning through him. WHITMORE (winces) Because I needed the money. MILES That doesn't fly. You were holding her purse. She gave it to you. Didn't she? WHITMORE (hesitates) Yes, Yes. (closing his eyes in pain) MILES Then, why shoot them? WHITMORE She said she had credit cards. MILES Credit cards?

(CONTINUED)

15. CONTINUED: (2) WHITMORE She told me she had a little cash but had credit cards. What could I do with credit cards. MILES So, you shot her! WHITMORE I was pissed. Miles is trying to control his anger. MILES What about the little girl? WHITMORE (winces) I didn't know she was there. Until the woman dropped. MILES (angry) Why? Why did you shoot a defenseless little five year old. Bik is listening and watching intensely but doesn't move. WHITMORE (now really scared) She was now an orphan. I was an orphan. The stuff they do to you. I didn't want her to go through that. I knew I wanted to be dead. I wanted someone to kill me. MILES That is your heart of compassion, you shot her because of that. EXT. OUTSIDE THE AMBULANCE. Mike can hear what is going on inside. He coolly acts like nothing is going on. EXT. INSIDE THE AMBULANCE. Miles grabs Whitmore by the shirt. Whitmore's IV and tubes slowly fall to the side. MILES You bastard, you dumb bastard. She has a father. (MORE) (CONTINUED)

16. CONTINUED:

MILES (CONT'D) (grabbing him tighter) That little girl has a father.

Bik leaps towards Miles and Whitmore. Before, he can get there. Miles has pulled out his REVOLVER and put it to Whitmore's neck. Miles's finger is on the trigger. Bik stops in his leap. BIK (calmly) Whoa. You don't have to do this. MILES (looking at Bik) Maybe I do. This bastard shot a mother and a five year old. (turning to Bik) The court will give him ten years for each life. That's not enough. I want to give him an eternal sentence forever. Whitmore is struggling to get free and his legs start kicking. Suddenly, the gurney moves which bumps the ambulance's door. EXT. PARKING LOT - DAY Mike feels the jolt and quickly turns around. He opens the door and sees what is going but makes no attempt to intervene. Out of the corner of his eye, Adam saw Mike turn around and open the door. He knows something is going on. Adam's gut instinct has just locked in. GLORIA Then, the second sound. I knew something was wrong and I ducked down. That is where I saw the two big guys jump on top on that guy. I thought I was going to get shot...and I was going.... Where are you..... ADAM (starts running toward the ambulance) As he gets to the doors; Mike steps back. Assuring Adam that Miles is not in trouble but he could be the cause of whatever is going on behind the doors. Adam swings open a door and sees Miles with his gun to Whitmore's neck. Also, he notices the wide wet spot between Whitmore's pants legs.

(CONTINUED)

17. CONTINUED: ADAM (CONT'D) (looking at the situation upclose) Miles, what the hell are you doing? MILES I'm being this bastard's judge and jury! ADAM Miles, you can't do this. Whitmore's eyes are pleading for help. MILES He shot them over credit cards. The mother even gave him the purse. He presses the gun nozzle harder against Whitmore's neck. MILES (CONT'D) (tears are forming in his eyes) He shot little Abby. (choking on his words) because he thought he turned her into an orphan. He thought, freaking wrong. (grabbing Whitmore hard) She has a father. (yelling in his face) Whitmore is frighten. Adam looks away for a moment searching for the right words. ADAM I understand your action. (moving closer) But, we have to let the court system deal with this scum. Not us. Miles hears his partner's words but showing no sign of letting up. ADAM (CONT'D) You and I have work to do. His words seems to get Miles's attention. ADAM (CONT'D) We can make a difference. We can get these guns off our streets and so others will be safe.

(CONTINUED)

18. CONTINUED: (2) MILES (breathing calmer) You heard. We can't win this. ADAM Nothing is won, unless we try. We have to try. But, I need you, partner. I can't do it alone. I need you have my back. Like I have yours now. MILES (tears running down his cheek) It is not suppose to effect me like this. I can't help it. It is a family. It could be anyone's yours or mine. ADAM I know, man. Whitmore is in pain and that mixed with fear is a deadly combination. He looks as if he is going to pass out. ADAM (CONT'D) (eye watering) Miles, you need to step back out of the ambulance and holster your gun. Adam's words echo for a moment. Miles's grip loosens on Whitmore. He closes his eyes, shakes his head and releases Whitmore and starts to back out of the ambulance. Bik quickly secures Whitmore who is really scared. Miles, who has tears coming down his cheeks, stands proud and looks at Adam and then holsters his gun. Mike stares at Miles with total respect. The paramedics walk calmly over to the ambulance. They have no idea what has just happen but they will once they see the condition that Whitmore is in. Miles and Adam looks at the two bulks of white sheets which underneath lies a mother and daughter whose lives were senselessly taken because of a gun that should have never been brought into this city. There is a muffled ringing of something. People are looking around to see where it is coming from. Everyone including Adam and Miles seems frozen as they realize where the sound is coming from. Diane walks over to Lauren's body and stoops down while putting on PLASTIC GLOVES.

(CONTINUED)

19. CONTINUED: (3) She gently lifts the white sheet and the ringing gets louder. Diane reaches around Lauren and stops. She brings out a CELL PHONE and swiftly recovers Lauren's body. Then, she looks at the CALLER ID. DIANE It's the husband. Diana presses the answer button on the phone and puts the phone to her ears and starts to talk. Miles and Adam have a burning fury in their eyes. Dissolve into the TITLES Inside a van, a DRIVER and PASSENGER see Adam who has on a BULLETPROOF VEST step in front of the vehicle. He is aiming his gun straight at them. The van stops. The driver look to his left there is a TACTICAL TEAM OFFICER with a vest pointing a shotgun at him. The passenger has another OFFICER with a gun at his window. They both open their doors and are quickly pulled out two other OFFICERS and put face first against the van. The van's back door is opened by Miles who has on a vest. There are four CRATES on the floor stacked twos.

OUTSIDE THE VAN: The crates are stacked on top of one another on the ground. Adam looks at Miles as he is about to open the crate. The crate is opened and Miles reaches in, there is wrapping. He stops and pulls out a gun. Miles smiles as does Adam. He reaches in and finding another gun. The other tactical officers are excited. Another victory for the Gun Task Force. Just hours ago, local law enforcement and the FBI raided this warehouse on Mahoning Road and found many illegal guns. Eighteen people were arrested in this case. Now recently, there has been influx of illegal firearms coming into the city. Also, in the past few months, there has been an increase amount of homicides. Now many of these cases have been linked to one or another. The officials tell me that they have found over 500 illegal firearms just in this case alone. Now Stagger City Police say the raids will not stop.

They have international BUYERS who have made their intentions known they will shop elsewhere for their guns. Unless the RAIDS are stopped. Secretly, a HIT CONTRACT to kill has been taken out on Miles and Adam. Adam just found out from an INFORMANT, but Miles doesn't know yet.

*

Miles who is casually dressed with a button up BEIGE shirt and BROWN dockers pants. He is wearing a long black coat. He has the confidence of a man who knows his job well and is always taking care of business. As Miles is headed towards his apartment. There is a mid 30 to early 40's - something MALE AND FEMALE couple coming his way from the opposite direction. He sees them, but doesn't recognize the couple as neighbors. Then, Miles’s CELL PHONE starts to ring. For a moment, he keeps a stern eye on the COUPLE. The female gives Miles a flirtatious SMILE and an "aren't you going to answer your phone" look as she passes him. His guard is lowered a little. She looks good with a beige over the shoulder, tight blue jeans and matching patent leather SHOES. The phone is still ringing. The MALE is neatly dressed with a blue unbuttoned at the top shirt and tailored pressed black pants that matches his suit jacket. Both of his hands are at his sides. His suit jacket is not buttoned all the way, the bottom button is undone. Miles and the couple are going their separate ways.

*

Miles goes around a corner as he reaches into his pocket and flips the phone open and puts it to his ear. MILES Hey, Adam. (listening) I am at my apartment. I just left the crime scene. (listening) What! They put a hit on us. Who?

*

We hear the soft sound of a gunshot from a SILENCER. Miles’s body is propelled forward against an apartment door with a loud THUMP and his head strikes the DOOR FRAME. From the impact, Miles's body bounces across the hallway and slides down the wall. On the floor, Miles's eyes are blank as his eyelids slowly close.

23. CONTINUED: (2) There is smoke coming from the silencer of the powerful HANDGUN that is held by the FEMALE who flirted with Miles just moments before. Her smiling face from before has turned hard. This hard face belongs to VICTORIA BECKENSAW, 42, an assassin for hire. This has been her trade for seven years, since being found "innocent" of the first-degree murder of her husband, Martin. Her lawyers pleaded her case as "self defense" but failed to mention she was taking "gun lessons" at a shooting range some seventy miles away from home. Victoria discovered she enjoyed killing other HUMAN BEINGS and soon began doing small hits and made a name for herself by taking out "hard to get" bigger targets. Diversion is her speciality; with her classic look and allure. The target is lead into a false sense of security and then, killed. CELLPHONE/ADAM Miles, Miles. What is happening? She lowers the gun to her side. Suddenly, the DOOR, Miles fell against opens. MADDIE DULFER, in early 60's, sticks her head out to see what is going on. Victoria instinctively raises her gun towards Maddie, who freezes. The voice from Miles's cell phone unfreezes her as she sees Miles lying on the floor. Maddie is about to scream but no noise come out. She is in a trance as her focus is on Victoria's index finger that is making a "shoo" be quiet motion against her lips. Maddie is terrified, but yet confused of what to do next. Victoria helps her by making a "move back into the apartment" wave to her. Maddie gets the message and slowly back steps into her apartment and gently closes the door. INT. HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS MAX VECCHIONE, 40, the man we saw with Victoria, is doing "look out" down the hall. He and Victoria are sometime partners. Max likes the quick money and the downtime of the jobs so he can spend it with his wife and two small children. INT. DOWN THE HALLWAY - CONTINUOUS We can still hear Adam's frantic voice from the cellphone. ADAM (cellphone) Miles, are you alright?

24. CONTINUED: Victoria stoops down, taking the cellphone. We can still hear Adam's voice as she presses the "end" button on the phone to silence his voice. She stands and slips the phone into her pocket. Victoria looks down at Miles, then she lightly kicks Miles's leg. He still doesn't move. Victoria smiles. INT. HALLWAY - MOMENTS LATER Max looks nervous. He knows this area is too open and people could be coming in and out at anytime. Suddenly, Victoria appears in front of him, starling him. She is real close to him inches from his face. Victoria is smiling as she raises the gun. Max pulls back his coat revealing a side gun holster. Victoria gets even closer to Max.. He looks down the hall nervously, but it is not a "we are going to get caught because we shot someone" look but we are going to caught because we may get naughty in public" look. Her glaze makes him focus back on her as she slowly puts the gun in the holster while still looking at Max. He is clearly trapped as he is trying not to look at Victoria but he is. Her sexual allure is on as she closes her eyes. Then, the gun is almost into holster. She pushes the rest of the gun slightly hard into the holster. Max shutters. A moment of silence echoes through the hallway. Victoria slowly opens her eyes. VICTORIA One shot, like always. Victoria steps back from Max. He closes his coat. They share one more glaze at each other. Then, two quickly walk down the hallway into the darkness. EXT. HOSPITAL BUILDING -EVENING INT. HOSPITAL HALLWAY - SAME Officer Johnny Simmons is standing guard next to a hospital room door. A DOCTOR walks out of the door, smiles at him. INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - CONTINUOUS We see TWO people, one is sitting up with a huge pillow propped behind him in a hospital bed. It is Miles, who is alive. Adam is sitting next to him in a chair. MILES I am glad I was wearing my vest. The shot bruised my back really bad.

Adam nods as he listens.

25. CONTINUED: MILES (CONT'D) It happened so fast. I saw the couple. My cell rang and I took my eyes off them. Then, I felt my back explode and then nothing until the hospital.

ADAM I am sorry, man. I had to call you to let you know what was going on. MILES It's okay. It happened. I would have called you, too. ADAM Yeah, I know. (thinking) Has this been worth it? We are fighting for our lives here. MILES Yes, we are fighting but we have to save others lives. So, there are no more Abbys, Laurens and Selenas. ADAM But, it is not just about us anymore. MILES (concern) What do you mean? Adam becomes silent and stares towards the window. Miles notices his partner’s quietness. ADAM They kidnapped Jenny about five hours ago. MILES (very serious) Kidnapped her? Who? ADAM The gun dealers, we have been shutting down. The bastards called me on your cellphone. They want both of us dead because we lead the raids on their guns.

She is wearing an "off the shoulder" sweater and with blue jeans.

* *

Jenny has a gentle smile but with a "please be careful" look on her face on one side of the door and Adam has a "I don't want to leave, I want be with you" look on the other side as the door closes. ADAM (CONT'D) I left her there. I wasn't thinking. I should have taken Jenny with me. To make sure she was safe. I didn't know they would do that. Miles closes his eyes. When he opens them, there is anger in them to the point where red veins can be seen.

*

MILES You have to call the captain. ADAM I can’t do that. They said if anyone comes other than me. She is dead and I can’t risk that. MILES (winces as he tries to move because of his injury) You are taking a big risk. Since you had to surrender your badge and gun because of some damn psych test. You must stay focused to get through this.

*

ADAM I can’t. My anger is overtaking me. Selena Jacobs still haunts my mind. She was a hostage who didn't need to die. Now, I feel like a hostage. (MORE)

ADAM (CONT'D) They have Jenny. Maybe, the psych tests are right. I am not fit to handle a gun yet. MILES Not even for Jenny. You are about to ask her to marry you.

* *

Adam looks away and shakes his head with confusion. ADAM (shaking his head) I was just trying to clear my head, this week. I was with Jenny and I feeling alive and getting back some control. MILES You need that control now. Remember what they told us at the academy, sometimes you have to let go of emotions that make you lose your edge. And reload yourself with emotions that will take you through a brick wall without fear.

ADAM Miles, I am going to snap. I am so pissed off. They got my girl. (closing, then opening his eyes) She is not involved in this. I have to get control. (deep breath) MILES (nodding) Then, do it. Get yourself together. End this and bring back Jenny. Adam agrees. He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath and his body straighten up. Then, he slowly exhales with a calming, peaceful breath. Miles gives his partner a few moments to himself. MILES (CONT'D) What time are you suppose to meet them? ADAM (calmer) Six A.M.

*

MILES (breaking the silence) It is suicidal for you to go alone. (beat) Adam nods. ADAM (standing up) I know that. What other choice do I have. MILES You have at least one choice. Go and get your vest from the equipment room. Get it. ADAM You know if I go they will call the captain especially at this time of the morning. MILES You have to chance it. ADAM I know. I can't let them harm her. MILES What about you?

29. CONTINUED: (5) ADAM You know what can happen in this situation and what the odds are. MILES Let's get better odds. My backup guns are at my apartment. Get what you need. Adam picks up his coat at the edge of Miles's bed and goes next to Miles. MILES (CONT'D) All I know, partner. I wish I could go through that brick wall with you. (raising his balled fist) ADAM I know, but I would make you go first. Miles manages a chuckle. Adam raises his fist to meet Miles's fist. The two fists stay connected for a few seconds. Then, Adam leans down and puts his arm around Miles for a side hug. Miles's eyes closes, as the hug is tight and longer that usual three second non space threatening male hug. Adam's eyes are starting to tear up. ADAM (CONT'D) I have to go. MILES (looking at Adam) Okay, I will be here when you get back. ADAM (slight smile) Yeah, later. Adam exits. Miles is trying to breathe lightly to calm himself but the question on his mind is; will he will see his partner alive again. DISSOLVE TO: EXT. In the warehouse area, MAZE PANZAR, 38, the arms dealer whose operation is being destroyed by Miles, Adam and the Gun Task force. He is a cross between a biker and a rock star with his trademark leather vest on. Maze acknowledges Victoria's information. A man and woman in their early 30's who have "extra" mean looks on their faces are positioned towards the corner of the warehouse and holding "big" guns. Maze walks over to a blindfolded JENNY who is sitting on a steel frame office CHAIR. Jenny's hands are tied in front of her on her lap with thin double twine ROPE. There is the same type rope tied across her lap and through the legs of the chair to hold her in place. MAZE It is a good thing you won’t be able to see your boyfriend being inflicted with incredible pain. Jenny starts to tremble and tears run from underneath the blindfold. A weaponless Maze walks away from Jenny towards the mean duo. EXT. THE WAREHOUSE - SAME Adam is sitting in the BMW thinking. There are images of Jenny, Miles and Selena. INT. BMW Adam's hand pulls the door's latch. Adam slowly emerges from the back of the BMW. The sternness of his face remains. The early morning wind has caught Adam’s long coat causing it to flap out. He is headed towards the warehouse. Adam comes to the front of the building near the entrance door. His face is not etched with fear it is emotionless. There is no DEEP BREATH. Adam unfastens two of his coat’s front buttons. His hand grabs the doorknob and twists it. As he goes in, his long coat flies out and quickly disappears. The door shuts. There are cracks of light through the door and from underneath it.

35. INT. WAREHOUSE - CONTINUOUS Adam walks in and sees at a distance Maze and his two lackeys, a MAN and WOMAN with automatic machine guns. Adam's eyes shifts to the far right corner of the warehouse as he sees Jenny tied up and blindfolded. This is good because when things jumps off and it will. She will be safe out of gunshot range. Adam looks back at Maze and his so called TERROR SQUAD in a serious glaze. He takes a step forward, the chunks of dirt make a crackling sound under his shoe that seems to echo throughout the warehouse. Adam stops and appears to be listening for something as his eyes make a shift from right to left. Somewhere, someone's shoes appear in an open doorway. MAZE You are here on time. Because, I am honorable man and my word is my bond. Your girlfriend will live but as for you. You and your partner have cost me too much. (walking away) Adam knows it is about to go down. ADAM What about the cost of people's lives. Innocent lives gone because of your guns. And the effect on their families. MAZE A matter of economics. No gun sales, no food on my family's table. ADAM A table built of blood. (beat) Blood of a mother, a daughter and countless others. Maze shrugs his shoulders with an air of non compassion. ADAM (CONT'D) Have you no conscience? MAZE A businessman has no conscience. ADAM You are no businessman. You are a coward.

Taking my girl who has nothing to do with this. Now, standing there like you are big stuff. You are plain and simple, a coward. MAZE Me, this man, this coward is going to take your life. ADAM (almost smiling) No, you won't. Someone else will try to do it for you. MAZE Try, it won't be hard. Adam is slightly confused by Maze's statement. MAZE (CONT'D) According to my sources, your gun and badge were taken away from you. That's what makes this so easy. ADAM If it is so easy. And you know my situation. Why not just you and me? What's with the backup? MAZE Who knows what a desperate man may do! ADAM (slightly smiles) I am not desperate. I just want my girl.

Adam's shadow is joined by another that is slowly raising a gun. Adam quickly turns around. There are two rapid GUN SHOTS. Then, silence engulfs the warehouse. Adam is face to face with the other shadow. It is Victoria, the assassin. She looks at Adam with a slight smile. Adam's face is hard, just ice cold. Then, Victoria's eyes roll back and her body starts to drift to the side. Victoria's shadow disappears from the wall. There is a loud thump. Adam is holding a nine millimeter gun at his side. He turns around. His eyes meet Maze's eyes that have total rage in them. Maze's game plan has taken an unexpected turn. MAZE Despite what just happened, alive is not an option for you. But what Because, he is standing on a body bag, that is for you. He walks toward the male lackey and goes behind him. From the middle of the warehouse, Adam is following Maze parallel as he walks towards the female lackey. Maze stands next to her. The male is tighten his grip on his gun. Maze and Adam look each other in the eye. Kill him.

At the GROUND FLOOR window, there are flashes of LIGHT and then DARKNESS as the sounds of the gunfire are deafening. The ping-pong affect of light and darkness continues. The gunfire's BRIGHT AND DIM light reflect off Jenny whose body is tensing up with every shot. EXT. INT. BUILDING - MOMENTS LATER Jenny is crying, trembling and scared. There is movement. Behind a steel storage cabinet on its side with tires, Adam is on one knee, holding his gun in his right hand and as he is standing we see another gun, a silver Colt 45 REVOLVER in his left hand. His shoes walk slowly on shattered glass and in the background, we can see Victoria's body lying on the cold warehouse floor. There is the crackling of SHOES and GLASS with every step taken. Jenny is waiting for a voice or something to give an indication of who it is but nothing but the SOUND of the shoes on the glass and getting closer. Jenny is uncertain of what is going on. She feels someone's presence. Adam is standing in front of Jenny. His face is flush as closes his eyes; he seems weak. He trying to collect his strength. Adam pulls his coat back with his left hand revealing a light brown gun holster that has his nine millimeter in it. Then, he tucks the silver REVOLVER inside his pants waistline. Jenny is still scared. Her heart is beating fast. She knows that something is about to happen and her fate is about to be determined now. Adam's hand reaches in towards Jenny's face she feels it and slightly recoils but something calms her. His hand continues and lightly takes hold of the blindfold and slowly lifts it from her eyes. Jenny’s eyes get adjusted. She looks up. JENNY Oh, my god. Adam right hand cups her cheek. Her eyes close and she breathes deeply to savor the moment. Adam goes down to two knees to meet Jenny’s face.

Hi.

All I know is I had to make sure you are alright. JENNY I'm alright. Adam slightly releases Jenny's hands. Immediately, Jenny hugs Adam tight and he very wearily hugs her back.
