Die Leuchte
The luminaire
Die platzsparende Schreibund Nachttischleuchte Arges kann überall eingesetzt werden, wo auf beengtem Raum solide Ausleuchtung benötigt wird. Auch in ausgeschaltetem Zustand bietet sie durch ihre formschöne Ästhetik einen angenehmen Anblick. In einer Verbindung mathematischer Regelmäßigkeit mit organischer Varianz läuft der Schirm vom Leuchtmittel abwärts konisch auf den markanten Schwerpunkt zu, welchen er, mit dem Standfuß vereinigt, umwickelnd einfasst. An dieser Stelle kann die Leuchte im Handumdrehen in die ideale Position gebracht werden. In ganz zusammengeklapptem Zustand kann die Leuchte durch die kompakten Außenmaße von 62cm x 20cm x 5cm [LxBxH] sehr platzsparend verpackt werden, ohne dass sich der Nutzer mit dem Zusammenbau herumschlagen muss.
The space-saving writingand bedside lamp can be used anywhere where solid illumination is required, but only limited space available. Even when switched off, it offers a pleasant sight through its elegant aesthetic. In a compound of mathematical regularity and organic variance, the screen runs downwards, from the illuminant cone on the distinctive emphasis. Coiling around this, it joins the base. At this point, the lamp can quickly be brought into the ideal position. In completely folded state, the luminaire has got the compact outer dimensions of of 62cm x 20cm x 5cm. [LxWxH] therefore, it can be packaged very space-saving, which avoids the the user having to grapple with the assembly.

Aufgabenstellung The task „Es soll ein elektrisches Lichtobjekt entstehen, dessen Lichtquelle mindestens seine gemessene Höhe als horizontale Auskragung zu seinem statischen Schwerpunkt (Standfuß) erreicht. Berücksichtigen sie die Materialgerechte Konstruktion, eine markante Erscheinungsform, eine kostengünstige Fertigung und eine platzsparende Verpackung für den Transport!“
„The goal is to create an electric light object that is capable to reach the same length in the horizontol as it would reach heigth in a vertical setting. Take into account that your design is appropriate for the used material. Furthermore consider a striking appearance, a lowcost manufacturing and a space-saving package for transport!“
Die Lösung
The solution
ist einfach: Die Leuchte ‚Arges‘ besteht aus 3 Komponenten. Einem Standfuß, einem Schirm, der gleichzeitig Arm, Reflektor und Kabelführung bildet, sowie einer Fassung, in die der Schalter integriert ist. Hierdurch lässt sich die geforderte Auskragung im Handumdrehen einstellen.
is simple: the luminaire ‚Arges‘ consists of three components. A base, a shade that is also the arm, reflector and cable management, as well as A socket into which the switch is integrated. This can be adjusted to the required projection in a jiffy.

Der Fuß
The base
stützt den Schirm und bildet mit ihm zusammen das Gelenk. Er wird kostengünstig als Aluminium-Strangpressprofil hergestellt und dann pulverbeschichtet. Darin eingelassen ist ein Metallgewicht, welches sich nach außen als bordeauxroter Drehund Angelpunkt erkenntlich macht.

Der Schirm
The shade
wird aus einem Stück Blech gelasert und in Form gestanzt. Das Ende wird aufgerollt. Er ist der Hauptbestandteil der Leuchte, er ist nicht nur Reflektor und Kabelführung, er hält auch die Lampenfassung und bildet die Hälfte des Gelenkes. An dieser Stelle führt er zudem das Kabel unproblematisch nach hinten weg. Die Wölbung an der Vorderseite verläuft sich nach hinten auf eine Gerade, immer wieder unterbrochen von in die Gegenrichtung gewölbten Streifen. Für ein ästhetisches und konsistentes Erscheinungsbild richtet sich die Länge der Streifen nach einer von einem Mathematiker aufgestellten Gleichung 3.Grades.
is laser cut from a piece of sheet metal and stamped into shape. The end is rolled up. It is the main component of the luminaire, it is not only reflector and cable routing, it also holds the socket and forms half of the joint. At this point, he also leads the cable unproblematically away from the luminaire. The bulge at the front changes its shape to a straight line while running backwards, repeatedly interrupted by stripes curved in the opposite direction. For an aesthetic and consistent appearance to the length of the strips are governed by a cubic equation established by a mathematician.

Die Fassung
The socket
h채lt mittels einer universalen E14-Fassung das Leuchtmittel in Position, stabilisiert den Schirm und sorgt f체r eine gute Erreichbarkeit des Schalters. Ihre Form ergibt sich aus der des Schirms, und doch ist sie das tiefrote Herzst체ck der Leuchte.
holds any E14 bulb in place, stabilizes the screen and ensures good accessibility of the switch. Its shape is derived from that of the screen, but yet it is the deep red heart of the luminaire.

Anatomie
Anatomy
Die Leuchte zeigt schematische Eigenschaften auf, die ebenso in der Anatomie zu finden sind. Der Aufbau des Leuchtenfußes beispielsweise ist sehr ähnlich dem eines menschlichen Fußes. Vorne wird er gestützt, dahinter spannt sich ein Bogen zur Ferse, welche den Schwerpunkt und das Gelenk trägt. Ähnlich dem menschlichen Rückgrat oder Skelett, führt von hier aus eine regelmäßige, stützende, schützende und formgebende Struktur aufwärts. Innerhalb dieser befindet sich eine Leitbahn, welche in das Herzstück mündet. Dies steht in ästhetisch wertschöpfendem Kontrast zur technisch geradlinigen Härte und überwiegend maschinellen Produktion der Leuchte.
The luminaire shows shematic properties that can also be found in human anatomy. The set-up of the lamp stand, for example, is very similar to that of a human foot. An arc connects the braced front side to the heel, which supports the balance point and the joint. Similar to the human backbone or skeleton, there is a regular, supporting, protecting and formative structure striving upward from here. Within this there is a pathway, which leads into the centerpiece. This forms a contrast to the technical straightforward hardness and industrial production, out of which the luminaire takes some of it aesthetic potential.

Farbfindung
Finding colors
Das Helligkeitsverhältnis zwischen Schirm und Fuß spiegelt das Gewichtsverhältnis wieder. Eingekleidet in diese Grautöne kommt das Rot der Fassung, des Kabels und des Gewichtes besonders zur Geltung. Dieses ist kreisrund in den Fuß eingelassen und gibt der Lampe etwas ikonenhaftes.
The brightness balance between the shade and the stand matches the weight balance. Dressed into these shades of grey brings the red of the socket, the cable and the weight to fruition. The circular weight is embedded into the stand and adds to its iconic character.

Namensgebung Name-giving Im Anfang war das Chaos, die grenzenlose gähnende Leere. Aus dem Chaos entstanden Gaia, die Erde, und Eros, die Liebe. Gaia erzeugte aus sich selbst Pontos, das Meer, und Uranos, den Himmel. Darauf vereinigte sie sich mit Uranos und gebar die 12 gewaltigen Titanen und die drei riesigen, einäugigen Zyklopen. Da Uranos die Zyklopen, seine eigenen Söhne zu mächtig wurden, warf er sie in die tiefste Hölle, den Tartaros. Aus Zorn über diese Tat überredete Gaia ihren jüngsten Sohn Kronos, den eigensüchtigen Vater mit einer scharfzahnigen Sichel, die sie ihm schmiedete, zu entmannen und der Herrschaft zu berauben. Aus den Blutstropfen, die von dem Verwundeten auf die Erde herabfielen, entstanden die Erinnyen und die schrecklichen Giganten. Das Glied warf er ins Meer, und aus dem darin enthaltenen Samen entstand Aphrodite. Um nicht von seinen eigenen Kindern ein ähnliches Schicksal zu erleiden, verschlang Kronos alle Kinder, die seine Frau Rhea ihm gebar, jedes
In the beginning there was chaos, the boundless emptiness. Out of the chaos emergedGaia, the earth, and Eros, love. Gaia created Pontos, the sea, and Uranus, the sky, out of herself. Then she layed down with Uranus and gave birth to the twelve mighty Titans and the three giant one-eyed Cyclops. But since the cyclopes, Uranus own sons became too powerful, he threw them into the deepest hell, Tartarus. Enraged by this act, Gaia persuaded her youngest son, Cronus to emasculate the selfish father with a sharpened sickle she forged for him, and to deprive him of the rule. From the drops of blood that fell from the wounded on the ground, there emerged the Furies and the terrible giants. The phallus he threw into the sea, and from the seeds it contained therein arose Aphrodite. To avoid suffering similar later by the Hands of his own children, Cronus devoured all the children his wife Rhea gave birth to, each time immediately after birth. Therefore Rhea rose, when she should

Mal gleich nach der Geburt. Deshalb stieg Rhea , als sie wieder einem Kind das Leben schenken sollte, auf Anraten ihrer Mutter Gaia hinab auf die Insel Kreta, wo sie in einer dunklen Höhle den Zeus gebar und verbarg. Zeus wuchs in seinem Versteck, von der Ziege Amalthea gesäugt und von Nymphen gepflegt, rasch heran. Als er groß geworden war, zwang er Kronos mit einer List, die verschlungenen Kinder wieder auszuspeien. Nun begann Zeus mit seinen Geschwistern den Kampf gegen Kronos. In diesem Kampfe um die Weltherrschaft hielten einige Titanen zu Kronos, andere aber, wie Okeanos und Themis, zu Zeus. Die Zyklopen, welche Kronos erlöst, später aber selbst wieder in den Tartaros verbannt hatte, wurden von Zeus endgültig befreit. Mithilfe der von ihnen geschmiedeten Donnerkeile besiegte er die Titanen, fesselte sie und warf sie in den Tartaros. Die Namen der Zyklopen waren Brontes der Donnerer, Steropes der Blitzer und Arges der Strahler.

Now Zeus began, aided by his siblings, to fight against Cronus. In this struggle for world domination some Titans stuck to Cronus, but others, e.g. Oceanus and Themis, stuck to Zeus. The cyclopes, which redeemed Cronus redeemed, but later banished to Tartarus again, were finally freed by Zeus. Using thunderbolts they forged for him, he defeated the Titans, tied them and threw them into Tartarus. The names of the cyclopes were Brontes the Thunderer, Steropes the lightning and Arges the bright.

Alle gezeigten Arbeiten, alle Texte und nahezu alle Bilder wurden von Arved Bünning und Philip Cermak im Rahmen des dritten Semesters Industriedesign an der Muthesius Kunsthochschule Kiel erstellt.
