Maqta Fort A watchtower was erected soon after the island was inhabited. This tower was part of the Fort Al Mahal, which guarded the way towards the settlement. The tower was preserved and is as one of the oldest historical buildings in Abu Dhabi. Today, Maqta Fort stands as a small hidden treasure literally in the shadow of the always busy Maqta Bridge on a small rocky island at the mouth of the Khor Al Maqta. Being one of the very few historical structures in the capital, the fort has been carefully renovated in order to preserve this valuable architectural and historical treasure.
