DJ NICHOLAS: A Trailblazing Voice In Christian Reggae Dancehall
Nicholas Vacianna Eccleston, globally recognized as DJ Nicholas, is a trailblazer in the Christian Reggae Dancehall genre. For over two decades, his electrifying performances and faith-infused lyrics have inspired audiences across the globe. From his humble beginnings in Kingston, Jamaica, to becoming an internationally acclaimed gospel artist, DJ Nicholas has carved out a unique path, blending his musical talents with his faith to inspire audiences. His recent interview with VBD Magazine offered an in-depth look into his journey, showcasing his authenticity, creativity, and passion for ministry.
A Life Transformed
Born in the vibrant community of Meadowbrook, Kingston, DJ Nicholas was immersed in a culture of music and faith from an early age. “My mom would visit several different churches and made sure we prayed regularly,” he recalled during his VBD Magazine interview. “She was a cabaret singer before I was born, and her love for music left a strong impression on me.”
As a teenager, DJ Nicholas began exploring his musical talents, heavily influenced by the dancehall genre and artists like Bounty Killer. “I started writing songs after hearing Bounty Killer,” he shared. “At that point, I wasn’t thinking about Christianity; my lyrics were about guns, girls, and marijuana.” His exploration of Rastafarianism and rebellious pursuits marked a tumultuous phase in his life.
However, everything changed when he encountered the scripture Acts 4:12: “There is no other name given among men whereby mankind can be saved except the name of Jesus.” This profound moment of clarity became the catalyst for his spiritual awakening. “That scripture convicted me,” DJ Nicholas explained.
“It led me to realize that Jesus is the only way to a relationship with the Creator.”
This transformation saw DJ Nicholas abandon his Rastafarian beliefs and rebellious lifestyle, embracing a mission to use his musical gifts to glorify God. “Why should I throw away this talent that God has given me when I can use it to write scripturally sound songs?” he said.
