The Off-Shoots Garden Club was able to remain active during this crazy year utilizing outdoor and distanced meetings. Despite canceled events for over a year, OSGC was able to safely raise money for the Brookwood Forest community this year and keep moving forward helping their community. President Kibbe Jones and the executive board felt like it was the right time to finally come together during its annual Spring Party, 80’s prom style. Would lip fillers work for you?

Now that we’re all coming out from under our masks, many are looking to perfect their pout.

Remember a time when you could tell if someone was smiling

or not? A time when you used to actually wear lipstick or gloss? Well, that time is back. As we roll through 2021 and start to shed our masks more often, we realize how much we’ve missed the emotional communication that comes from being able to see each other’s mouths. Many are also looking to improve the appearance of their lips now that they’re on full display again.

So go buy that favorite lipstick you haven’t been able to wear for a year. Pay more attention to your lip skincare - try a lip scrub occasionally for exfoliation and be sure and use sunscreen now that your lips are more exposed to the sun. But, if you’re looking for additional volume, you may want to consider lip fillers. We spoke with Dr. Julie Harper of Dermatology and Skin Care Center of Birmingham who noted that “most people seeking lip fillers do not want to look overdone - they just want a natural looking lip with some added volume.”

~What are lip fillers?

As we age, our bodies begin to produce less collagen, and our lips are one of the first places to notice that loss as they start to look thinner. Most lip fillers, like Juvederm, are made of hyaluronic acid which is naturally found in the skin. Because hyaluronic acid stores moisture, injectable lip fillers are able to give skin a plump and hydrated look.

~ Is there down-time?

There may be slight swelling or bruising immediately after the injections for some. But this should subside within the first 24-48 hours after the injections. It usually takes about two weeks for the filler to settle in for the look you’re going for.

~ How long do lip fillers last?

Every person is different and it varies by how quickly one’s body breaks down the filler, but most will last for between 6 and 18 months.

~ Are the results reversible?

If after two weeks, you’re not happy with the result, in most cases, your doctor can give injections of hyaluronidase and can usually adjust or dissolve the filler.
