Welcome to the February/March issue of About Ballinteer Hello and welcome to our first edition of About Ballinteer for 2011. This month we highlight the current plight of some local charities still trying to raise much needed funds, I wrote about their plight very briefly in the last edition and I have been made aware of how desperate they are to keep their essential projects going. As we all find things a little tighter in the pocket, worthwhile local projects like this tend to lose out to much larger scale global fundraising. If like Saplings School or the LauraLynn Project you are involved in a local charity or community group we would love to hear from you to highlight your program. Are you struggling and need to lose a few pounds we have some excellent advice and solutions from renowned South Dublin Nutritionist Anne Owens. The Mill Theatre’s new full program of great nights out at the theatre for February/ March and we also highlight one of their popular Drama groups, the award winning Balally Players. If you are looking to open up your own set of lung’s and set the music free, CORus are looking for budding singers all over South Dublin to join in their new no audition choirs, so look for them. As always there is plenty for everyone Events, News, Advice and Competitions, if you have any interest in writing a piece on your local area, event or something that you think our readers might be interested in then please contact us we would be happy to discuss developing it. You will also be glad to hear that even though an election has been called we are a politic free zone this issue but we would urge all our readers to ensure they get out and vote on 25th February. Take care everyone and God Bless.

ABOUT VALENTINES

History of Valentines The Valentine's Day History is shrouded in mystery and there is lot of confusion regarding the Saint. We can be sure though that February is the month of romance. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest. He served in Rome during the third century and at this time Emperor Claudius II decided that unmarried soldiers were better than the married ones. Thus he outlawed marriage for young soldiers. Valentine realized this injustice and performed marriages in secret for the young lovers. When Claudius found out, Valentine was put to death. Another legend suggests that the first 'valentine' greeting was sent by Valentine. It is a common belief that when Valentine was in prison, he fell in love with a girl. This girl was the daughter of the jailor who visited Valentine during his days of confinement. He wrote a letter to her just before his death and signed as 'From your Valentine'. An expression still used today of course. The real truth behind the legends of Valentine is still murky but the stories reflect his heroic, sympathetic and romantic personality and appeal. Valentine was one of the more popular saints in France and England in the Middle Ages. There is some opinion that Valentine's Day is celebrated in mid February to commemorate Valentine's death which was around 270 A.D. Others believe that Valentine's feast was organized in mid February in order to Christianise the pagan Lupercalia festival. Lupercalia dedicated to the Roman God of Agriculture, Faunus, is a fertility festival. In this festival, the members of the Luperci would come together at the sacred cave where the infants Remus and Romulus were said to be cared for by a lupa or a she-wolf. The gathered priests would sacrifice a Dog for purification and a Goat for fertility. Then the Goat hide strips would be taken around the streets and women gently slapped with them. It was believed that the strips would make the women more fertile. Later, the women had to place their

8 | ABOUT BALLINTEER

names in a huge urn. The bachelors of the city had to choose individual names of the women from the urn and then they were paired for at least one year. These pairs were thought to often resulted in marriages. Around 498 A.D, February 14th was declared as Saint Valentine's Day by Pope Gelasius. In France and England, it was a common belief that Valentine's Day is the mating season of the birds. The oldest Valentine which exists today is a poem written by the Duke of Orleans to his wife while he was in prison of Tower of London. Valentine's Day started to be celebrated around the seventeenth century in Great Britain then Ireland. Friends and lovers exchanged tokens of gifts and love. At present, Valentine's Day ranks second among the largest cardsending holidays after Christmas.

ABOUT DATING

Dine to Meet We are looking for single men! In the last few months we have successfully advertised in About Magazines and have received many applications from lovely ladies who would like to meet single men – we now want more men to sign up! Instead of us telling you how good we are – we will get our male clients to do the talking for us! “It was a great night and there was no pressure. I'd welcome an invite to another table” - Pierre (Dublin) “Had a fantastic night. Everyone was friendly and good fun. The restaurant was wonderful. Will definitely be doing Dine to Meet again!” - Jack (Dublin)

the meeting takes place. We make the restaurant reservation & arrange one small table (and by small we mean either 6 or 8 people in total) with same number of men & women. A generalisation is that men tend to be hesitant to try new options and we want to change this and encourage more males as members! - so if you are a man or know any men over 30 who might be interested – check out or encourage them to check out our website www.dinetomeet.ie or call 087 7640 385

“I had a great time and believe all of the others did too. The venue was great, the food superb and the company even better”– Gerard (Dublin) It was a great night and there was no pressure. I'd welcome an invite to another table – Colm (Dublin) One of the major concerns about meeting new people is the safe environment & atmosphere of how and where

ABOUT FLOWERS

Valentine’s Day.... A Florist’s Perspective! The idea of buying “over-priced” Roses on Valentine’s Day annoys a lot people. The romantics among us don’t need a particular day in the year to express their love, yet the pressure is great to make the gesture and so men feel forced to make that purchase.

Thanks to Eva in Dundrum Blooms and if you would like more Valentines Flower advice you can contact Eva in her Shop on or at her blog Simply contact us on 01 2982988 Or on-line at www.yourdublinflowers.com Or Like us on www.facebook.com/dundrumblooms Or follow us on www.twitter.com/floraleva

Florists get a lot of criticism as people feel they are being ripped off. In fact florists pay inflated prices for flowers. Our benefit is in increased sales, not increased margins! It’s all about supply and demand; the demand is high so prices increase. Each year we hear the adverts for dozen red roses for €5!! However it’s like all things, you get what you pay for. People don’t understand why they should pay €70-€80 for a dozen roses when they can get them for €5! It’s all down to quality. Rose quality is based on: Length & strength of stem, shelf life, size of head, and in the case of red roses how well it opens up into velvety petals. In the shop this year we are doing a gorgeous dozen with Kenyan roses for €50 and dozen high end Dutch roses for €70 and lots of prices in between. Roses shine brightly but for a short time (7-10 days).

ABOUT GARDENING

Round the Garden in February by Tom Percy There are two seasonal diversions that can ease the bite of any winter. One is the February thaw, the other is the seed catalogues. Hal Borland. What can be more relaxing than using this quiet, dark and cold time of year as an opportunity to look through pages of the seed and shrub catalogues? You can spend plenty of time browsing pages of perfect flowers and shrubs, planning where they will fit into your garden.

Plug-plants are a great way of buying a considerable number of plants, usually annuals, to create large swathes of colour later in the year. However remember they are tiny seedlings that need to be grown on in a greenhouse before planting out. If you don’t have a greenhouse then pay a little more and buy plants that are larger.

The more planning you can do, the more likely your garden and choice of new plants will be a success. Research the plants that catch your eye and make sure they will grow on your soil and fit your garden once fully grown. Look back at the past garden year; what thrived and survived and what failed or outgrew its home? If you have never ordered from catalogues before or haven’t received any through the post, you can usually find adverts in newspapers and magazines. It’s worth ordering a few to gain some background information on a range of plants and also to see the countless new varieties that will have been recently released. Often the catalogues carry varieties not found in the garden centres.

ABOUT PROPERTY

Thinking of Emigrating An innovative concept has been developed to solve a major recessionary challenge. As more of our younger people seek out new opportunities overseas they are having to leave behind their much loved homes which then becomes their investment in their future. As emigration increases, many of Ireland’s emigrants are young professionals in negative equity who want to safeguard their main asset. Ali Mehmet, landlord & property expert, has set up a new company called Non Resident Landlord.ie Non Resident Landlord.ie is a one-stop shop, providing services for property owners who are forced to emigrate from Ireland. The challenge for Landlords who live abroad, is that they do not know how long they will be away for or if they are ever coming back. Non Resident Landlord offers multiples services tailored to each homeowner who rents out their property or needs their property taken care of: e.g advertising your property, providing reference checks, carrying out property maintenance, arranging BER certification, accounts & tax preparation.

Ray McGettrick, a chartered accountant, moved to Texas and has already availed of the services offered: “I recently relocated to the USA and found it necessary to find someone who could completely manage all of the affairs relating to my residential property in Dublin – both during the moving process and during my absence overseas. Ali from Non Residential Landlord.ie handled everything and enabled me to devote my time to more personal matters. I could not have managed without the help from Ali and I was confident that everything would be handled professionally and in a timely manner. “

If you are relocating away from Ireland and want more information on how you can be helped you can contact Ali on 4419119 or 087-2227756

ABOUT RECIPE

Lemon Chicken with a Cashew Crunch With Christmas gone and the new year started with healthy intentions, we didn’t think it fair to tempt hungry readers with something cream-filled or chocolate-dipped. But healthy doesn’t have to mean boring, so here’s a little something for those cold January nights that’s packed with colourful vegetables and full of flavour. Ingredients: 1 tablespoon of olive oil 2 chicken breasts, sliced 1 clove of garlic, peeled and diced 1 onion, sliced 150g broccoli 1 large carrot, cut into sticks 1 red or yellow pepper, cut into strips 200ml chicken stock 1 tbsp cornflour 2 tbsp honey 1 lemon, grated rind and juice 75g cashew nuts A handful of beansprouts or white cabbage Chilli flakes (for an optional kick!) Brown rice or noodles to serve. Serves: 2 Method: 1. Heat the oil in a large pan or wok and add the chicken. Stir fry for a few minutes until the chicken begins to turn gold, then set aside. 2. In the same pan, cook the onion and garlic until they begin to brown, then add the broccoli and carrot and cook for about a minute. 3. In a jug mix the stock, honey and cornflour together and pour into the pan. Return the chicken to the heat and stir until the sauce has thickened and the chicken is cooked through. 4. Tip in the lemon rind, juice, cashews and a sprinkle of chilli flakes if desired and serve with brown rice or noodles - and a healthy conscience. 14 | ABOUT BALLINTEER

called PC engineers calling to find out if your computer was running a little slow (don’t they all), when they asked you to go to particular website and download a link invariably you would be told that, yes your computer was indeed in need of repair and that for a fee of around €200 they could help. The downloaded link is in fact a back door into your system which allows these scam artists access to all your stored information, and the €200 that you first paid will be taken from your Bank account again and again. Well, after we alerted people to this scam we have been contacted by some who have received these calls and thankfully have not downloaded the link. I have given anyone who contacted me about this matter the name of an officer in An Garda Síochána who is looking at this and hopefully they are making progress. If you have been taken in by this scam, and from what we know it is quite easy to be taken in by these people, please tell us your story as it might help us to inform others who have been called, as we believe it is still being tried all over South Dublin. Bytes & Pieces Dealing with SPAM It’s almost impossible to avoid getting spam into your email account. However a bit of prevention and dealing with it when it arrives will minimise the quantity. Some spammers use software to randomly generate email addresses for popular email providers e.g. hotmail.com. Commonly called dictionary attacks, the software will guess the first part of an email address – for example HYPERLINK "mailto:johnsmith@hotmail.com" johnsmith@hotmail.com. So when creating your email address ensure you use special characters such as underscores or numbers. Some spammers use special software called email harvesters which scan webpages for email addresses. Common targets are message boards and social networking websites. So when including your email address on a webpage (for example when you use a message board) try to obscure it. For example, use john AT yourprovider.com instead of using the @ symbol. SPAM emails will almost always invite you to unsubscribe from their mailing list. This is a way for them to confirm your email address is real. It will offer a link, or it will say something like 'Reply to this email with UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject'. Only unsubscribe from mails you are certain you originally subscribed to.

ABOUT NUTRITION

Lose Weight and Feel Great Have you been gaining weight over the last few years? Do you find it increasingly difficult to lose weight? Do you crave particular foods? Do you feel tired all the time? Have you been yo-yo dieting? If the answer to any of above is yes then your blood sugar is probably out of balance. Keeping your blood sugar stable is the secret to losing weight. You may be familiar with the Glycemic Index (GI) of foods, however the Glycemic Load (GL) is a better way of gauging the effect of foods on your blood sugar levels, and thus your energy, wellbeing and weight. GL is a measure of the quantity and quality of carbohydrate in any given food. It shows us the effect each type of food has on our blood sugar. Foods with a high GL rating encourage the body to "store" fat. Foods with a low GL rating enourage the body to "burn" fat.

A quarter of all people, and nine out of ten people with weight problems have difficulty keeping their blood sugar balanced. The result is exhaustion and weight gain. Obese people are 77 times more at risk of developing diabetes than non-obese people - a statistic that alone tells you how strongly linked weight gain is to blood sugar control. So, the best way to lose weight is to regain blood sugar control which heralds the return of your body's ability to burn fat. How to balance your blood sugar Avoid sugar and stimulants (coffee, tea, alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes ) Eat a low Glycemic Load diet. Eat protein with carbohydrates Drink plenty of water Exercise every day.

You might be amazed by some of the foods that have a high GL rating. Cornflakes have a very high GL whilst ice cream and peanuts do not! Your body is designed to burn glucose for energy. Carbhydrates such as grains ( bread, pasta, rice ) and fruits are broken down into glucose in the body. But in today’s typical western diet, the wrong types of carbohydrates are consumed excessively resulting in too much blood glucose. The excess is stored as fat leaving the body craving even more food to meet its energy requirements. When this happens the body has lost blood sugar control and weight gain becomes inevitable. If your blood glucose levels are even, you'll have a steady supply of energy and a healthy but balanced appetite. But, if your blood sugar levels are too high, you'll lay down fat and if they are too low, you'll feel tired and lethargic. Balance is key.

ABOUT MOTORING

Brought to you in association with

Skoda Fabia RS Here is a question for you. What is the most horsepower you can have for the least amount of money? Stuck? Well we think we have found it. Skoda is a brand that has totally transformed themselves over the last few years. And now they are starting to show off. We have seen the Yeti over the last twelve months, which is one of the best small SUV’s around and now we have the Fabia RS. It seems that Skoda have been granted access to the best of the Volkswagen Group parts bin with this high-performance RS, because it employs the excellent 1.4-litre TSi engine, which uses a turbocharger and a supercharger to produce a whopping 180hp and 250Nm of torque in a car that weights just 1243kg. The RS model gains 17” alloy wheels, a double exhaust tailpipe and diffuser, sports seats and lots of RS badging. It looks aggressive, but perhaps not aggressive enough. The rather high roof of the car doesn’t lend itself to a sporty look and when you sit inside you find a cabin that isn’t all that different to a regular Fabia. There is a lot of black plastic around and while there are better seats, it just all looks a little bland. But who cares when you start it up and hear that delicious growl from the engine and its grumbly exhaust. And that fact that you are getting the brilliant new 7-speed DSG gearbox thrown in as standard is also quite remarkable. This gearbox gives

20 | ABOUT BALLINTEER

you the best of both worlds, operating as a smooth automatic and when you want it to be a performance transmission it is, swapping cogs smoothly because the principle of DSG is that it always has the next gear ready for you. The handling is great, with plenty of feedback from the steering rack and although you definitely sit a little too high up for a car with sporty pretentions this is probably the only real drawback in what is a great package. But probably the most significant news is the price tag. Skoda only want €22,690 of your hard-earned cash for this remarkable little car. We are pretty sure that this is the most horsepower you can buy for the least money in a new car and it proved further that Skoda are offering outstanding quality at outstanding value. We are seriously impressed. Model: Price: Variant: Engine:

ABOUT CHARITY

Ireland's First Hospice for Children and their Families It is hoped that Ireland's first Children's Hospice called LauraLynn House will be able to support over 300 families across Ireland a year when it opens its doors very soon in Sandyford. The LauraLynn House Paediatric Palliative Care unit will provide eight bedrooms along with living facilities as well as four family apartments, to enable relatives to be close to their children. These units will be an essential component of the Palliative Care Programme so desperately needed. Until now, Ireland has never had a dedicated hospice for children. As families face the most difficult moment imaginable, they have traditionally had two options: for a child to spend their last days in a hospital or at home. The LauraLynn House will be the realization of the shared vision of the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice Foundation and The Children's Sunshine Home. Born out of the tragedy of the McKenna family who lost their only two daughters, Laura and Lynn, to unrelated illnesses in the span of two years, the hospice will be a “home from home” for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. A place where children can receive dignified care and families can receive ongoing support from a team of dedicated professionals. When it is known that life is short, two things become very important to the family; the quality of life and the enjoyment of the time that is left. Caring for a seriously ill child puts an immense physical and emotional strain on the whole family. The demands absorb the very time and energy that is needed to enjoy life. As part of their community fund project EBS Beacon manager, Dairmuid Boyle donated his branches €500 to the project to help with their much needed funding, again as local community projects and charities struggle to ensure continuity in their funding a lot more help is needed.

26 | ABOUT BALLINTEER

A residential children's hospice is a family’s last option but a real option for some—offering a place where they can relax, recharge their batteries, share the care and have fun with their children. Expert care is on hand to help them make the most of each day and live life to the full. Philomena Dunne CEO of The Children’s Sunshine Home

“After Lynn’s death I got to thinking about the lack of options, other than a hospital, for families with children who are dying. In the UK they had dozens of hospice facilities for children, in Northern Ireland there was one, but in Ireland there were none. That was the beginning of our work to establish the first hospice for children in Ireland. A lot of people are uncomfortable talking about death or children being sick or dying, especially here in Ireland and I think it’s much better to talk about it and be open. Share. Talk. Cry. This is not a road I ever thought I would be on. I’m not an organizer, I’m not a public speaker and it just isn’t my nature but this project is so important. People have been incredibly supportive and kind and they believe in what we are building. My children had a beautiful life, though brief. On my worst days, Laura and Lynn’s courage is with me.” Jane McKenna

ABOUT LEGAL MATTERS

Legal Considerations For Motor Accidents by Dillon Solicitors At Dillon Solicitors we sincerely hope that you are never involved in a motor accident. However, in the unfortunate event that you are we wish to provide you with some practical legal advice. Ten legal considerations when involved in an accident: 1. Stop. Keep your vehicle at or near the scene of the accident for a reasonable amount of time. 2. Ring 999 or 112 for emergency services if anyone is injured. 3. Note the make, colour and registration of the other car. 4. Exchange details of names, addresses of all parties involved in the accident. Take insurance details of other cars from the insurance disk of vehicle. 5. Take note of the injuries complained of by you and by others. 6. Take photos of scene if possible. Use the phone in your camera if necessary. 7. Do not admit liability or state who was right or wrong. 8. Get witness details, addresses and phone numbers. 9. Ring 999 for the local Garda Station. Take note of Garda on duty to whom the report is made. 10. Notify your insurance company as soon as possible.

What if I do not know the identity of the other driver? Sometimes it is impossible to obtain the details of the other driver at the scene of an accident. However, you can still pursue a claim even if you do not know the identity of the party at fault. If the Gardai have attended the accident scene your Solicitor can and pay a small fee for the details of the other driver and request the relevant Gardai report. If one has been the victim of what is known as a ‘hit and run’ incident or have later discovered that the driver of the other vehicle was uninsured a legal remedy is still available. In such circumstances your Solicitor can refer the matter to the Motor Insurers Bureau of Ireland which exists to protect the victims of car accidents when the party at fault is unidentified or uninsured. The MIBI effectively acts as the ‘insurer’ of the unknown or untraced driver . Talk to us today if you have had an accident and you wish to discuss a possible claim or to obtain a copy of our accident assist brochure that comes with a free insurance disk holder.

If you have a motor accident the law says you must stop. If you drive away, you could be charged with hit and run even if the accident was not your fault. You should give reasonable assistance to anyone who is injured. For example, you may need to call an ambulance, take the injured person to a doctor or hospital, or give first aid— only if you know how.

COMPETITION - Win a €15.00 Marlay Wine Shop voucher sponsored by Dillon Solicitors. FILL IN THE MISSING WORD “When involved in an accident it is important to notify your ___________ company as soon as possible.” Text your Answer, Name & Address to 086 264 8280. Good luck!

ABOUT EURO VISION

The Vard Sisters - Vote For Locals The Vard Sisters are natives of Sandyford and still live locally in South Dublin. Cathy, Wendy and Lisa, all sisters, have been singing together for over twenty years. They had Sony Ireland’s biggest selling Irish album in 1997 titled Heavenly with sales in excess of 180,000 to date and still rising. The girls have been singing at weddings, funerals and corporate events releasing lots more singles over the years. On the 11th of February they are appearing on the Late Late Show with Ryan Tubridy for the chance to represent Ireland at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest in Dusseldorf, Germany. They will sing live along with 4 other acts competing for a 50% Public and 50% Judges vote. This is not their first attempt at the song contest they were narrowly beaten by Dawn Martin in 1998 who went onto finish 9th for Ireland that year.

they bid to win the competition for Ireland for an eighth time. The girls have sang for many famous people but they say the pinnacle of careers so far was singing for US President Bill Clinton at an event celebrating the signing of the North’s peace process, their singing has taken them all over the world and they are relishing this opportunity to represent their country in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest. Dustin the Turkey admitted he just couldn’t reach the high c`s required in his attempt in 2008 and wishes the girls all the best with their entry for this year’s event. The Vard Sisters would like to thank About Magazines for the opportunity to appeal to the people of South Dublin for their votes and support on the night if they could find the time to vote for their entry it would be very much appreciated by the girls. We at About Magazines wish the girls all the best in their entry and know they would do South Dublin proud if they were represent us in Dusseldorf.

They will face stiff opposition from the other contestants namely Jedward who would have a huge younger following, though their manager Louis Walsh has vowed to resurrect their careers by pushing their entry with all his connections but has conceded there lack of vocal capabilities may go against them. It is in the vocal department that the Vard Sisters hope to have the advantage as they renowned for their beautiful harmonies. This year the girls have commissioned Irish Composer Liam Lawton to compose their entry for this year’s event, Liam has worked with such artists as Brian Kennedy, The Celtic Tenors, Eimear Quinn, and Moya Brennan and they hope this experience might help as

ABOUT DRAMA

Highlighting - The Balally Players Founded in 1982, Balally Players has welcomed everyone interested in sharing and enjoying theatre from within the local community and farther afield. The company has been successful in building up a faithful group of committed and dedicated members over the succeeding years and is now one of the success stories of the drama movement in this south city suburb of our capital city. Competing in the All Ireland One-Act Finals from the mid nineties, Balally reached the Finals in 1997 with five wins and Vinegar Tom –no luck then - and has had to be content with second place for Aristophanes’ Women in the Assembly in 1999 and a 3rd place for The Hunger March and Under The Stars until in 2006, our first win came with Melody by Deirdre Kinahan and a second consecutive win with Riders to the Sea the following year, 2007. Balally likes to travel and has represented Ireland at the Bi Centennial of the French Revolution in Paris in 1989, at the Mondial du Theatre - the Amateur World Conference in Monaco in 2009 and at various festivals in the US, Britain, Denmark and France. Highlight of this decade must be appearing on the stage of the National Theatre during the centenary celebration in 2004 with the WB Yeats On Baile’s Strand a once in a lifetime achievement – or perhaps it is the opening of our own Mill Theatre in 2006, donated to five local drama groups by developer Joe Reilly. The company has built a solid programme of events and now produce several full length productions annually for performance here in the Mill Theatre and on the full

length festival circuit as well as one act plays, workshops covering all aspects of theatre and the very successful open air Shakespeare productions in Airfield and the Christmas show at the same venue. The variety offered to members ensures that all needs are catered for both on and off stage. Our upcoming production in The Mill Theatre Dundrum is Arthur Miller’s ‘All My Sons’ it’s the story of war profiteering and its tragic consequences on family life. Set in a small town in America, this is a story of moral obligation and …retribution. Although written over 60 years ago, its theme is particularly relevant today in light of the financial scandals both home and abroad. ABOUT TAROTSCOPES

Tarotscopes by Mags ARIES You may have to cut through the untruths of a jealous rival to achieve the dream you want. The next few weeks sees you thinking of how happy you were in the past. This happiness is yours when you are honest about your feelings and go for it. Love is in the air and your name is written in the stars. You need to get fit and healthy for the summer now. TAURUS Nothing less than the best for our Taurus now. The winds of positive change are upon you now; make the wishes, send them out to the universe and wait for the results to come back in your favour. A new love, which may have a significant age gap is wending its way to the unattached. You will settle for nothing less than the best: why should you? GEMINI Getting your paperwork in order is a priority now Gemini. An offer you cannot refuse is on the cards. The purchase of a property requires meticulous care and consideration, but pays huge dividends. A marriage proposal is on the cards for you and you appear hesitant. The passing of a few days clears up any doubts you may have of settling down.

LIBRA A trip over to the west; Galway perhaps? Is a sure winner. You need to be outside your situation to see perspective. Unattached? Love can approach you in a most unexpected place. Do not be surprised if your future love has an unusual accent. A broken relationship from the past may have an influence on your thinking: get rid of it and progress. SCORPIO Scotland, even for a daytrip is very much on the cards. You are greatly admired by the one just returned from overseas; the choice is yours. Although you may have had a broken heart in the past, the learning experience has held you in good stead for your future. Your best friend needs you now. Tell this friend the love will come back. A lucky numbers win for you both. SAGITTARIUS An ‘E’ name is so lucky for you at this time. A legacy is for you to claim. Taking someone in to live with you temporarily is a financial gain and for reasons of mutual respect, you must take the money. A sporting event, a twenty first and an engagement are three functions you are required to attend. A wonderful gathering attends a christening.

CANCER You apply formally for the position you seek and you are accepted. A new life awaits you and you are very excited about the opportunities which lay ahead. The drama club could do with your input and the friends you make for life. A romantic link with your workplace is forecast and this takes shape at the local work canteen. You are blessed with a windfall.

AQUARIUS It is just and proper for you to be happy, so therefore, it is okay for you to say yes to a proposal that you have been anticipating. You are worrying unnecessarily about finances. The answer to stresses in this area is to put pen to paper and re-work the spending. You risk allowing jealousy ruin friendship: don’t! you never had a valid need to be envious.

LEO As you avidly explore the world of psychic phenomena, you are ever more drawn into the world of angels. Rest assured that they are around you at all times. The next few weeks sees you travel with like-minded folk to places of esoteric interest. You feel now that you are carving out a new beginning for yourself and your loved ones. Join the walking club.

CAPRICORN You are required to pause your schedule and recoup your energies. Someone cares for you and prays that you will be the happy camper. The clue to your dreams coming through are the roses presented to you. A second chance to accept rings of love. A legal dilemma may require compromise to reach early conclusion. The lovers card assures success for all.

VIRGO You must keep personal stuff to yourself now. Going abroad to work is a viable option for you Virgo, but you will not stay away. A chain of events set in motion leads you towards your destiny. A group of people who read together is a luck maker for you. A wedding outside the city limits is the time and place for the changes of destiny to begin its work.

PISCES Make the call and get in touch with the past. A trip overseas is the incentive you need to get into shape. Angel cards advise that you eat healthily. The decisions you make now are very guided by the heavens. Giving of yourself to charity has a positive effect on your karma. You two spend hours talking and it feels like minutes. What does that tell you?
