by JaCQu el elIN INee WI WIlSON Mandy has been picked on at school for as long as she can remember. That’s why she is delighted when cheeky, daring Tanya picks her as a friend. Mum isn’t happy though - she thinks Tanya’s a BAD GIRL and a bad influence. Mandy’s sure Tanya can only get her out of trouble, not into it . . . or could she? In this well-written, easy to read story, Wilson puts down one of the most painfully believable accounts of girl-togirl bullying you will ever read. Thankfully, though, as with all of her books, there is a thread of hope, encouraging victims to be strong and not give in to the bullies. Excellent material for younger readers, parents or schools.

JaCQu el JaC elIN INee WI WIlSON The start of year nine sees Ellie worrying about her weight and her lack of a boyfriend, her best friend Nadine has fallen for a seriously good looking boy and she is desperate to please him and Magda, her other best friend is just desperate to have any boyfriend, so she is the same as Nadine. Wilson give us this enriching title – the first part in a trilogy - for older readers, all about three year -nine girls and the problems they face growing up. There are many good reasons for reading this book, but the best is definitely for the friendship of these three very different girls!

Jeff KI K INN NNee y Diary of a Wimpy Kid is the first in the series of comic fiction books by Kinney. In the book we get collected episodes from a year in the tragi-comic life of the book’s protagonist, Greg Heffley, presented in journal form. Printed on journal paper with a considered mix of illustrative cartoons synched to the hand-written type face, it makes this book not a joy not only to read, but also to hold. Laugh out loud funny and very easy to digest, this it is recommended to encourage young, non-readers into the habit of picking up books.

MIChelle MagO MagOrI a N A classic story of friendship, Magorain allows the reader the humbling privilege of following a young boy, William Beech, on his journey as he is evacuated from London during the Blitz of World War II. William is put into the reluctant care of Tom Oakley, an elderly recluse. After an uncertain start, their relationship blossoms and thanks to Tom, William experiences a new life of love and care. Now also a musical and full motion picture, Goodnight Mister Tom still commands one of the most illustrious emotional narratives, perfect for pre-teens and adults alike.
