Pakistan Railways (PR) Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique directed the authorities concerned to check the blackmarketing of railways’ tickets. Presiding over a meeting in Lahore, Rafique said that additional police personnel and booking staff would be deployed to facilitate rail commuters. The meeting also decided to introduce more freight trains. The meeting was briefed on the launch of a special operation to clear out encroachments from the railways’ property. over the years a lack of attention, poor policies, increasing expenditures and poor financial controls and 2010’s floods, left the PR with deficits in billions of rupees. on July 27 the PR slashed the fares of all passenger trains by over 45 percent, for three months to attract more passengers, with the exception of the Karakoram Express. The PR also received Rs 1.57 billion to open a Letter of Credit (LC) to import 75 locomotives from China,

Rafique added. Efforts were being made to remove the annual deficit of Rs 35 billion by the end of current financial year, Rafique said. The minister said there was a dispute of Rs 3 billion between the Punjab government and the railways and thanked provincial government for its cooperation and for the payment of Rs 300 million in first tranche. Furthermore, he said that the maintenance cost on each locomotive was $50 which was very low as compared to international standards. one freight train earned approximately Rs 1.15 billion annually and was a major source of revenue for the authority, he added. The management had also decided to run four special trains for Eid to facilitate the passengers to visit their home towns to celebrate the festival with their loved ones, he said. He added that the first train would run from Quetta to Rawalpindi on August 6‚ the 2nd and 3rd on August 7 from Karachi to Lahore, and the 4th from Peshawar to Lahore on August 8.

LAHORE: A divisional bench of the Supreme Court on Monday ordered the federal government to decide the matter of the appointment of the National College of Arts (NCA)’s permanent Principal within 15days. The bench comprising Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Justice Mian Saqib Nisar passed the orders on a petition filed by Dr Murtaza Jafari while hearing the matter at Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry. A law officer earlier informed the bench that the cabinet division selection committee had interviewed five candidates for the post on July 25. He said that the committee would finalise its report within a week and it would be sent to the cabinet. After hearing the law officer’s statement, the bench disposed off the matter. Two Kalashnikovs, 50 bullets and four hand grenades were seized from their possession. DIG Investigation Zulfiqar Hameed identified the suspects as Karamat Ali, Zulfiqar Alim, Sohail and Abdul Hafeez who confessed that they belonged to Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Al-Qaeda. He said that police arrested them from Minar-e-Pakistan upon receiving information about their arrival. Investigations reveal that the attack on the jail

was planned by Al-Qaeda commander Afzal and executed by Junaid, who also attacked military officials at Chenab River in Gujrat last year. AdVISOR TO CM KILLEd? A woman (60) was allegedly killed by her servant in a house at outfall Road in Islampura Police precincts on Monday. CIA kills 5 in encounter LAHORe STAFF REPORT

The Crime Investigation Agency killed five men in an encounter on Monday in Kahna. According to reports, the CIA Kahna Police raided a factory in Suay Asal Bedian Road for the arrest of criminals. The police exchanged in cross firing with the men at the factory and ended up killing five while two managed to escape. According to CIA Kahna Incharge Rana Haseeb Anjum, the five men were wanted in various cases by the police and had a handsome head money. The police identified the men as Babar alias Babri, Mohsin Iqbal, Tanveer, Irfan and Imran alias Imrani. The police told Pakistan Today that the men were involved in the killing of an elections candidate Ashraf Zahid in 2008 general elections and various other people. IG dISTRIBUTES PRIZES FOR HIGH-LEVEL ARRESTS: Punjab Inspector General (IG) on Monday delivered cash and certificates among police officials in Lahore’s Central Police office for arresting dangerous criminals.

As per details, Punjab IG Khan Baig distributed cash and certificates among police officials in a ceremony in the Central Police office for arresting wanted criminals. He said that the police would not let criminals disturb the peace of the public. The IG distributed Rs 4,050,000 among officers of 11 divisions for arresting 15 dangerous criminals. He also gave certificates to 6 officials for their good performance. Two female officials, Multan DSP Shahida Nasreen received Rs 50,000 while Faisalabad Sub Inspector Farah Waheed received Rs 200,000. He said that 27,952 officials would be appointed at 778 Majalis and 172 demonstrations across the province on the 21st of Ramadan. According to details SI Abdul Shammi and SI Muhammad Bashir were dismissed for inefficiency and negligence which resulted in the killings of two individuals during a session court while SI Maqsood Ahmed, SI Saifullah, ASI Muhammad Ashraf , Head Constable Shahab-ud-din, Constable Muhammad Nadeem, Constable Nazir Hussain and Constable Abdul Waheed were dismissed for failure to formulate foolproof security arrangements due to which eight under-trial prisoners escaped from police custody from Lahore’s District Court. she Was raPed on her Way bacK FroM a shrIne LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday took notice of the gang-rape of an 11-year-old girl. Nankana Sahib District and Sessions Judge has been directed to probe the matter and submit a detailed report regarding steps taken by the local police along with his comments. The girl, a resident of Syedwala Town, was returning home from a nearby shrine with her cousin when Rao Asif alias Kaka, Rai Saqlain and Rana Waheed assaulted her and took her to a deserted place where they raped her for two hours. The victim’s father alleged that police was equally involved in this as he tried to lodge a complaint which was finally registered after a delay of five days against two culprits, omitting the name of Waheed. The medical examination of the victim was done after a week to destroy evidence and while ASI Saifullah was protecting the accused and humiliating the family, he said. The LHC Complaint Cell taking notice of the incident directed the District and Sessions judge to look into the matter and submit a report within one week. APP
