shakib, Wahab fined for altercation SportS DESk Shakib Al Hasan and Wahab Riaz have been fined 30 per cent of their match fees for breaching Level 1 of the ICC code of conduct during the final day’s play of the drawn first Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan in Khulna. The incident happened in the 118th over of Bangladesh’s second innings when the duo halted play by arguing and pointing fingers at each other. The players were found to have breached Article 2.1.8 (a) of the code, which relates to “conduct contrary to the spirit of the game.” An ICC release stated that both admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Jeff Crowe. “Posturing and finger pointing in each other’s face is not what we expect from two senior international players and has no place in cricket,” Crowe said.

shaheryar to Watch second test in dhaka kArACHI Staff RepoRt Shaheryar Muhammad Khan, Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is due leave for Dhaka on Tuesday to watch the second cricket Test between the Bangladesh and Pakistan starting on May 6. During his stay in Bangladesh, he would also be holding meetings with officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to discuss future plans. “I want to motivate the team ahead of the second Test,” he said. Pakistan suffered 3-0 loss in the One-day International series and Shahid Afridi’s team was beaten in the one-off Twenty20 International against Bangladesh. PCB chief is believed to fly to Kolkata from Dhaka to meet Chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jagmohan Dalmiya. During the meeting with the BCCI chief, Shaheryar Khan is expected to discuss the holding of proposed Pakistan’s home series against arch rivals in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in December.

Veerasammy Permaul and Jason holder combined to do most of the damage, but some late hitting from Jos Buttler extended england towards an advantage that could yet be enough on a pitch proving very tricky for batsmen. There was actually less on offer for the

fast bowlers compared to the previous day, when 18 wickets tumbled, as the ball grew older, but Permaul was a threat out of the rough and holder was very impressive as he removed Chris Jordan and Stuart Broad in consecutive deliveries. Buttler managed to dominate a last-wicket stand of 25 before Jerome Taylor pinned James Anderson lbw to leave West Indies one over to face before lunch, during which Kraigg Brathwaite managed to get himself off a pair with a lovely straight drive. england resumed on 39 for 5 and ticked over relatively comfortably for the first 20 minutes of the day through Gary Ballance and Ben Stokes as four precious boundaries came in the first five overs. however, Permaul’s introduction worked almost straight away when Ballance, playing for turn, edged his second delivery low to Darren Bravo at slip. West Indies thought they had struck again in the next over when Buttler was given caught behind before he had scored, but he reviewed and after some lengthy deliberation the third umpire ruled there was clear evidence of daylight between bat and ball before his back leg was clipped. West Indies were not overly impressed, but the evidence did favour the third umpire’s view. Buttler and Stokes decided it was time for their natural game: attack. Buttler opened his account with an effortless

straight six off Permaul while Stokes took up the challenge presented by Denesh Ramdin’s field to play the reverse sweep, which brought two boundaries. Such are the fine margins in this match, the scoring rate was starting to get out of hand for West Indies but, in the nick of time for them, Stokes drove to Shivnarine Chanderpaul at cover; Chanderpaul had been defying his 40 years with some acrobatic work in the off side. The innings was then heading for a quick finish when Jordan was given lbw to what was a bail-trimming decision from Billy Bowden and next ball holder produced a pinpoint yorker to extract Broad’s off stump with a sense of in-

evitability for a player who is now quite a sad walking wicket. Anderson, though, survived a king pair and the rest of holder’s over to give Buttler the chance to take on the field. For three overs he skilfully bided his time until Ramdin brought up his men and collected four fours and another straight six, off Shannon Gabriel, to hustle england’s lead towards the key figure of 200. Ramdin, though, kept changing his bowlers to ensure Anderson was facing a quick and the tactic worked when he was pinned lbw by a full delivery from Taylor although, bizarrely, it was given not out on the field by Bowden and West Indies had to review.

ZIMBABWE SECURITY DELEGATION’S VISIT SHORTENED LAHorE Staff RepoRt

The visit of the Zimbabwe security delegation to assess security in Pakistan has been reduced to one day from three days. The team will arrive on May 6 and return the same day after monitoring security arrangements being made for their upcoming series with Pakistan. Zimbabwe will play all three Oneday Internationals and two T20 matches in Lahore. The delegation will consist of four persons who will be from the Zimbabwe cricket board and security agencies. It was earlier decided that the said delegation would tour Pakistan from May 4 to 6 but as the Zimbabwe cricket board had already given the green signal to the tour, trusting on PCB’s arrangements, importance of this security team has reduced. It is also learnt that a member of the ICC security team may also join Zimbabwe to personally monitor the security arrangements in Lahore. As Zimbabwe is the first Test-playing country which is visiting Pakistan after the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009, the ICC will closely watch the situation. The ICC has refused to

appoint its match officials for the series to avoid any security risk. It has, however, allowed the PCB to appoint local umpires and match referee, and agreed with the PCB that the matches will get international status.

The Pakistan men’s hockey team lost their second Test match against Australia A 3-1 on the second day of the Four-nation International Challenge taking place in Hobart on Sunday. Trent Mitton opened the scoring in the second minute of the match to end the first quarter 1-0, while Blake Govers and Glenn Simpson added a goal each in the 21st and 43rd minutes respectively. Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan scored the only goal for Pakistan through a penalty corner in the 51st minute of the match to conclude the contest at 3-1. The Australia A squad have concluded their Test matches at the Hobart International Challenge and Pakistan, Kookaburras, Korea and New Zealand will play the final four matches of the event where the Greenshirts will take on Korea, while the Kookaburras will play against the New Zealand Black Sticks on May 4.

MAYWEATHER WINS RICHEST FIGHT EVER BY DECISION LAS VEGAS Floyd Mayweather Jr. was money once again in the richest fight ever. Mayweather used his reach and his jab Saturday night to frustrate Manny Pacquiao, piling up enough points to win a unanimous decision in their welterweight title bout. Mayweather remained unbeaten in 48 fights with a win that cemented his legacy as the best of his generation. Pacquiao did what he wanted to do, chasing Mayweather around the ring most of the fight. But he was never able to land a sustained volume of punches, often looking frustrated as Mayweather worked his defensive wizardry once again. Two ringside judges scored the fight 116-112, while the third had it 118110. The Associated Press had Mayweather ahead 115-113. “I’m a calculated fighter, he is a tough competitor,” Mayweather said. “My dad wanted me to do more but Pacquiao is an awkward fighter.“ The richest fight in boxing history, a

bout that made Mayweather at least $180 million, wasn’t the best. Far from it, with long periods where both fighters fought cautiously, looking for an edge. There were no knockdowns, and neither fighter seemed terribly hurt at any time. Pacquiao landed probably the biggest punch in the fight in the fourth round, a left hand that sent Mayweather into the ropes, but he wasn’t able to consistently land against the elusive champion. The fight was a chess match, with Mayweather using his jab to keep Pacquiao away most of the fight. Pacquiao tried to force the action, but Mayweather was often out of his reach by the time he found his way inside. “I thought I won the fight, he didn’t do anything,” Pacquiao said. “I got him many times with a lot of punches.“ A sellout crowd at the MGM Grand arena roared every time Pacquaio threw a punch, but a good percentage of what he threw never landed. Mayweather often came back with

straight right hands, then moved away before Pacquiao could respond. Ringside punch stats showed Mayweather landing 148 punches of 435, whilc Pacquiao landed 81 of 429.

The volume of punches for Pacquiao was a lot lower than the 600-700 he usually throws in a fight as he tried to measure his aggression against an opponent who was hard to trap.
