In our bibliographical review there are many books contributed by devoted persons, as in this case by Lt.-Col. Harper. The book under review is exceptionally treasured by professional practitioners and students. It is technical in character; 542 plants are classified by botanical names, and then classified by sickness, their property, and dosage. Prescriptions are given precisely, for example, for thirty-seven different conditions of constipation, sixty-four conditions of diarrhoeas, etc. All English health publications are priced very low; the value received surpasses the payment. Small booklet, but good concentrated information on 341 herbs, Indian included; short introductory. Very popular in Canada and U.S.A. First edition in 1949, since then renewed every year until 1963 when editions jumped to seventeen. Quick and useful for home reference. JARVIS, D. C., M.D., Folk Medicine. Size 7 × 4½ in., VI & 192 pp. Publisher: Fawcett Publications, Inc., Greenwich, Connecticut, U.S.A. 1962. The author, a general practitioner from Barre, Vermount, U.S.A., after a lifetime of practice, prepared a book on Folk Medicine. Its beginning was met with much scepticism, but accidentally a columnist read and tried some of the fresh knowledge and was convinced that Folk Medicine had its merits. In 1962 it had already sold 500,000 copies in hard covers to libraries and institutes, and many millions of the sixteen paperback editions were also sold. Can be found in all department stores, news-stands and railway stations, selling at a price of about 50 cents. Now over eighty, the famous doctor has a best-seller of ten years standing. Professor Kadans is the founder and President of Bernadean University, which conducts homestudy courses in Herbalogy and Naturopathy. The book gives names and properties of the plants, 600 in total. It is a good reference book for herbal dealers, herbalists and doctors. Quick condensed information with special classified indexes. KENT J. T., A.M.M.D., Repertory of Homoeopathic Materia Medica. Size 7 × 9¼ 1,423 pp., Index, plus XXI pp. containing table of contents of names and abbreviations of 583 frequently used remedies, 1,422 indexing symptoms.
