BECOME A LOBBYIST FOR THE DAY AND LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! Tallahassee, Florida - January 17-18, 2024 One of the most effective ways of letting elected officials know ABC’s views on construction issues is through personal meetings. Each year ABC of Florida members attend LegCon in Tallahassee to become lobbyists for the day and provide state legislators with information to help them make the best decisions for the promerit shop workforce in their districts.

Elected officials listen to their constituency – when a group of people from their district requests a meeting regarding issues, the official wants to hear their point of view. Most officials want to make sure they understand the consequences and benefits of any particular piece of legislation. This may be intimidating to some ABC members who may think they need to speak to legislators about bill language and in legalese. In reality, it is members speaking from their experience in construction and about their companies and communities that make the biggest impact.
January 9 – First Day of Florida legislative session January 17-18 – ABC of Florida LegCon, Tallahassee February 22 – ABC PAC Fundraiser March 8 – Last day of regular Florida legislative session April 24 – State of Construction Luncheon May 23 – Legislative Hobnob at Harry P. Leu Gardens June 24-26 – ABC National Legislative Conference July 18-20 – ABC of Florida State Convention & Planning Session August 20 – Florida Primary Election November 5 – General Election
To prepare, attendees are given the top legislative priorities which were set during the 2023 ABC of Florida State Convention and Planning Session, along with the bills ABC of Florida members are supporting. The Tallahassee attendees are separated into groups, each with a lead experienced member, which then attend preset meetings with Florida senators and representatives from the Central Florida area. The meeting topics include information about the ABC organization, as well as the top legislative priorities and bills ABC members are supporting.
