River House Lobby & Lounge | Hospitality Studio UC

PROJECT CHALLENGE | The Autograph Collection by Marriott is planning a boutique hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio. Partnering with a local firm, I devloped a conceptual branding strategy for the River House and designed the interiors for the hotel lobby and lounge. By exploring the art of curating brand identity, I gained foundational knowlege of hospitality design.

River House Lounge | Rendered perspective

The lobby is a modern interstitial additon bringing together two historic buildings. Mid-century modern finishes and furniture open guests eyes to the local flare of Cincinnati. Upon arrival and check-in guests can re-charge in the lounge, sipping on a cocktail and wrap up work after a long day. Programs utilized: Auto Cad, Sketch-up, V-ray and Photoshop.

is the ideal Pied-a-terre. Catering to Cincinnati’s Fortune 500 companies, this suite provides a relaxing environment for professionals traveling on business for a few days. The purple palette is an infusion of royalty and power associated with Cincinnatus the historic Roman leader. The entry is a bold multi-functional lounge combining a media room, full bar and desk, into the perfect space for drinks after grueling day of meetings.

PROJECT CHALLENGE | The scope of design includes two large call centers, a 800+ seat cafeteria, and two open-office towers of 10+ stories. As a member of the design and furniture team I was tasked with distilling the design logic into a layered hierarchy that flowed throughout the entire building. Defining public and private zones set parameters and guides to the level of materials and finishes in each space. I helped to develop the color palette , furniture plan and specifications including a mix of hard and soft seating by selecting pieces that evoked the southwestern Texas heritage. I coordinated a sit test where samples of all the recommended product was brought in to be evaluated by the client. towers - overall plan view zone 4 - tower typical X-large max

PROJECT CHALLENGE | A budget of around $40,000 allowed for a design refresh of the law firm. The project scope included new paint, wall base, carpet, and constucting one additonal office. The client wanted to brighten and lighten up the space as the dark green hallways combined with the traditional mahagony furniture dated the space. For the cooridor, I proposed several quick-ship durable carpet tiles with non-directional patterns. The key with this renovation was to select new carpet that would complement the exisiting carpet in the adjacent offices, and the wood flooring in the reception. With no exterior light in the cooridor, and inconsistent interior lighting the change to a lighter base and paint brightened the hallway immensly.

PROJECT CHALLENGE | As a part of the Carrollwood team,

I worked on wayfinding signage and floor pattern changes for the hospitals’ extensive renovation. This phase of the project included the administrative offices, back-of-house storage facilities and sterile lab processing. Due to the different departments in this portion of the hospital, each space had specific regulations to protect everyone’s safety.

I was challenged with selecting flooring options that met the requirements while being functional and part of the overall cohesive design. Working with the client, drawings were exported from Revit and rendered using Adobe Creative Suite to present options for finishes and wayfinding markers. To highlight the hierarchy of functions the types of finishes vary by location, proximity and usage.

Cedar Park Emergency Department & Willamette Hospital | Earl Swensson Associates PROJECT CHALLENGE | At ESa, I was on the Community Health

Standards team. The client has a set of design standards used in all their healthcare projects. I was tasked with curating a finish palette that would be similar but unique to each location. Both the small Cedar Park ER and the large Willamette hospital provide safety and patient comfort through material selection. Cedar Park’s ED entry is unique, bringing in natural light into the welcoming light-well atrium.

Cedar Park Emergency Department Entry | Schematic Rendering

Willamette’s design differentiates itself from Cedar Park’s design through floor patterning. Each nurse’s station has an anchoring floor pattern marked by a three stone hierarchy to strengthen wayfinding to critical areas for patients. I worked closely with the lead designer to select the finish palette, detailing Revit wall protection plans, floor pattern plans, and using Adobe Creative Suite to produce rendered elevations, plans and perspectives.

Trinity Medical Center Pediatrics | Earl Swensson Associates PROJECT CHALLENGE | At Earl Swensson Associates, I worked with a

lead designer to create a floor pattern for the pediatric wing. The inspiration for the pattern was the clients favorite Maharam cubical curtain used in the typical patient room. Three whimsical shapes were selected and customized. I created and rendered this custom floor pattern and the client approved it. After preliminary design, using Photoshop I modeled it in Revit creating the shapes. The flooring material is Noraplan Envirocare Rubber.

YETI Retail | Lauckgroup PROJECT CHALLENGE | Lauckgroup partnered with Lake Flato Architects to design the first brick-and-mortar flagship store for YETI. It is located in Austin TX and is set to open by the end of the first quarter of 2017. I joined the YETI design team and helped design and refine many of the custom fixtures. I managed the the fixture package presentations from schematic design through then end of design development. Each product fixture design seamlessly incorporates the YETI brand and story. The barrel fixture embraces the Texas heritage of rodeo’s while providing tiering for a mixture of the Rambler products. The large wooden storage fixture with the angled top displays all the accessories that complement the tundras. Since there is no storage on site, the shelves are intentionally sized to store limited stock of all the products.

PROJECT CHALLENGE | My capstone project is a

retail store that focuses on 2-4 stylish and progressive clothing brands that cater to persons with disabilities. The IZ collection by Izzy Camilleri inspired me to make the clothing more accessible by opening a brick and mortar store. These clothes are adaptable for seated posture and prosthetics and include many hidden features that blend fashion and function. The concept is to bring out the inner strength and empower people through fashion. Often times, shopping can be a burdensome experience for those with limited mobility. This store eliminates all of the challenges of navigating a store, reduces the energy needed to try-on clothes by incorporating hi-tech mirrors, and provides quality timeless pieces for every activity. My major program components include spacious fitting rooms, inclusive bathrooms, and a design lab for tailoring. Lounge seating will be intermixed with the mannequins in each department. The clothing will be displayed on height-adjustable fixtures that are on a suspension system from the ceiling. This allows for maximum floor clearance. Each customer will be paired with a design specialist who will assist them with complementary styling and measurement services.

The addition of a community center focuses on reading and building lasting neighborhood friendships through engagement of locals. My concept of vertical wood-screen walls give a sense of mystery and privacy as they wrap around gathering spaces. The community cafe and children’s reading is on the first floor, the second features the multi-purpose event room, and the top floor is a computer lab and reading lounge with a rooftop deck. The button sculpture is based on the 100 +1 concept, that repetition of a common object connected by a ‘thread’ then transforms into something uncommon and precious.

Button Sculpture | 100 + 1

The wooden model with acrylic insert is a study of light in relation to volume based on experience and research of a building on University of Cincinnati’s campus.
