AAS APPOINTS A NEW SCHOOL DIRECTOR Dr. Tim Fries (pronounced Freeze) has been appointed by the school board as the new AAS School Director starting in July 2019, succeeding Jim Urquhart.
Tim is currently the Elementary School Principal at AAS, arriving in Sofia in August 2014. Prior to joining AAS, Tim gained experience in many different roles in education, including: school principal, classroom teacher, teacher’s assistant, teacher of English as an additional language, and environmental educator. Tim earned his Master’s degree in teaching and his Doctorate in education policy at the University of Washington (UW), Seattle. He earned his Principal’s Certificate and his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Western Washington University. Tim spent most of his childhood in Seattle, USA. As an adult he has worked with students in the United States, Slovakia, and Germany. He is married to Tricia who teaches in the high school. They have three children, a high schooler, middle schooler and one in elementary. They have a two dogs, Rosa and Raven. Tim cherishes family time and together they enjoy being outdoors, reading and playing all manner of games. Tim also enjoys writing, cooking, and photography.
