Ritchie’s wine notes

Father’s Day – sorted!

Father’s Day is fast approaching (it’s on Sunday 18th June) and you may be asking yourself ‘where should I look for a great gift?’. Here at Cavavin, we can definitely help!
Both wine and whisky offer a huge range of options to choose from.
But where do you start?
Here are a few suggestions
Dining Out Guide

to help you make the perfect choice.
With whisky, the main styles are light, peaty, smoky and single cask. Most of the lighter styles are to be found in the Lowlands and Speyside. My personal favourite is the Glenkinchie 12-year at £40. It’s approachable yet displays excellent maturity with amazingly smooth vanilla notes. This is a real gem: a charming and subtle Lowland single malt that is a safe bet if you are unsure which type of whisky the chap enjoys. The Highlands and west coast tend to have the fullest flavours, with Islay producing some brilliant peaty whiskies.

If you prefer wine for Father’s Day, I would suggest going for the French classics such as Bordeaux, Rhone Valley and Burgundy and we have some great gift ideas in embossed bottles making them very aesthetically pleasing to receive. You will get a hint of red berries in a full-bodied red while the whites tend to be even more fruit-driven – just yum in a bottle!
And yes, that really is a technical wine term…
