Passport vs. Real ID

Page 1

Passport vs. Real ID The Real ID Act requires that driver's licenses meet standards set by the Department of Homeland Security by October 2020.

Right now, nothing. On Jan. 22, however, residents of two United States territories, American Samoa and Northern Mariana Islands, could be the subject of Real ID enforcement because they are still under review to get extensions. But as of Oct. 1, 2020, the T.S.A. will ask all travellers to have a Real ID-compliant driver's license or alternate acceptable identification to fly domestically.

Avoid all the confusion by getting your passport in a timely matter. If your US passport was issued when you were 16 years old or older, your passport is valid for 10 years. If your US passport was issued when you were 15 years old or younger, your passport is valid for 5 years.
