Dr. Tobias Janowitz is a biochemist and medical oncologist and a passionate communicator of biomedical research. His preclinical and clinical research focus on the whole-body response to disease, one of the least researched, but potentially therapeutically most promising areas of biomedical science.

Tobias was educated at the University of Hannover (Germany) and the University of Cambridge (UK). As a clinician scientist at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL), one of the top cancer research institutes worldwide, he leads a research program on how tumors interact with the biology of the host system. His group at CSHL is particularly focused of the effects of cancer on behavior and immunity.

Tobias has received multiple awards and honors. Most recently, he has coled a team to be selected for a highly prestigious Cancer Grand Challenges Award to tackle cancer-associated cachexia, a condition that causes severely disabling appetite loss and severe weight loss in patients with cancer.
