The American Advertising Federation’s Silver Medal Award Program was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern.

Annually, AAF member clubs bestow this honor upon outstanding members of the local advertising community.

KIM MCBROOM

For 35 years, Kimberly McBroom has been a strategic thinker and collaborative leader throughout the Toledo region. She has directed marketing communications in a multitude of industries including higher education, health care, energy, entertainment, and media with success following her at every stop along her career.

After graduating from the University of Toledo, Kim started her career as a reporter at The Blade. She became interested in public relations and soon joined The Andersons, working in PR and marketing communications. She worked at The Andersons again, later in her career, where she connected the company with Disney to advance marketing for a new consumer product in the Lawn Fertilizer Division. She then moved into the health care world at Flower Hospital (where she also worked two times), crafting and delivering messaging that helped lift the hospital’s profile in Northwest Ohio.

Kim then moved into social service, where she successfully passed two levies for the Lucas County Children Services Board and founded the development arm of that organization. Her next challenge came as External Relations Manager at Sunoco MidAmerica, where she integrated communications and was instrumental in building the company’s image across a five-state region, as well as taking on Government Relations.

An even larger challenge awaited Kim in the position of Chief Communications Officer, Associate Vice President-University Advancement, and Director of Marketing Communications at Bowling Green State University. Here, she created and

operationalized a strategic direction for marketing and communications that put BGSU on the map and resulted in huge increases in enrollment and an improvement in the quality and variety of applicants. In addition, Kim’s efforts in development assisted in the success of the first major campaign to exceed targeted revenue in BGSU history.

Kim then became Chief Marketing Officer for the Toledo Mud Hens and Toledo Walleye sports teams, implementing marketing programs that integrated virtually all areas in the organizations. Record-setting ticket sales and long-standing corporate partnerships followed, as did the development of the popular Hensville Entertainment District.

Kim is currently the Director of Sales and Marketing for Bionix, a medical device company. In this role, she is setting clear objectives and messaging for each product line, implementing global strategic growth initiatives, and building relationships throughout the company to ensure its long-standing success.

Across all her professional stops, Kim has stayed committed to giving back to the community. Beyond being the proud cofounder of the Northwest Ohio Race for the Cure, Kim has sat on the boards of several key area organizations, including The Jamie Farr LPGA Tournament, the Toledo Ballet, AAA of Northwest Ohio and Downtown Toledo and Regional Arts/Warehouse District Development and the Toledo Region Branding Initiative. Kim has also been a member of the Advertising Club of Toledo, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, Public Relations Society of America, and Women in Communications.

Kim has been recognized with more than 100 marketing and communications awards, including local and regional ADDY Awards and numerous Telly Awards, as well as industry awards from the American Hospital Association, the Ohio Hospital Association, CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) and the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League).
