Marilynn Hardcastle
MANTECA, Calif. — Marilynn “Kay” Hardcastle, 67, of Manteca, passed away at home surrounded by her husband and children on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on Aug. 2, 1945, in Roswell, N.M., to William “Dub” & Myrtle Skipper. Kay was raised in Roswell and came to California with her husband Argie in 1964. She enjoyed her role as a stay at home mom for several years, before becoming an account manager for Curt Hughes’ car dealership. She then worked for the Lions Club International for six years, setting up camps for deaf children, before eventually serving as an office manager for Kathleen Longton’s CPA business, until her retirement in 2012. She was an avid bowler, belonging to Manteca Bowl’s Tuesday Twisters for more than 43 years, and serving as their president for some 35 years. She was also her family’s biggest fan at all their sporting events throughout the years, enjoying watching softball, baseball, volleyball and basketball. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips with her parents to various U.S. sites. Her trips with her sisters to Hawaii were also very dear to her. Her greatest joys though,

OBITUARIES/RECORDS were when everybody got together for holidays or Sunday dinners. Kay’s most beloved thing in the world was her family and all the friends whom she considered her family. She knew no strangers and treated all she met with a tender kindness that just drew you to her. Everybody was welcome and accepted with her. She was the matriarch who kept everybody together, fostering a home full of love and tradition. To her family she was a truly a perfect mom and grandma. All those who knew Kay will attest that they were, indeed blessed. She will be missed immensely by so many. She is survived by her best friend and loving husband of 52 years Argie B. Hardcastle; three children, Cheryl O’Brien, of Ripon, and Todd (Liz) Hardcastle and Troy (Christi) Hardcastle, both of Manteca; nine Ami grandchildren, (Nathan) Rogers, Alyssa Hardcastle, Kaylee O’Brien, Cady Hardcastle, Christian Hardcastle, Emily O’Brien, Sarah Hardcastle, Brayden Hardcastle and Derek Hardcastle; three greatgrandchildren, Trenton and Natalynn Rogers and Kayton Gomes; two sisters, Patsy (Tommy) Felber, and Becky (Jud) Price, and two brothers, Gary (Sandy) Skipper, and Glenn (Crystal) Skipper, all of Roswell; and a multitude of extended family who loved her dearly. Claudette Sides Nickell was born Sept. 10, 1945, to Sid and Lillie Sides. Claudette went to be with our Lord on May 16, 2013. Claudette attended beauty college in 1971 in Clovis. She was very proud of her degree. She said it is the one thing I started and completed. She attended Garden Street Baptist Church in Carlsbad, and was very active in her church until she became disabled. Olen Frederic Featherstone II (Joe) was called from this world by his Lord and Savior at the age of 70 on May 14, 2013, from MD Anderson Medical Center in Houston. Joe was born in Artesia, on Oct. 27, 1942, to Olen and Martha (Sopp) Featherstone. During his childhood, Joe lived in New Mexico, Colorado and California. He developed a love of the ocean while in California, which he carried with him throughout his life. In 1960, he graduated from Roswell High School. Joe ear ned a bachelor’s degree in business with minors in English and religion from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. In 1965, Joe married his high school sweetheart Charla May Stone, and they remained married and in
love until his passing. Joe was always in pursuit of knowledge, whether it be geology, oil and gas technology, religion, art, gemology, computer programming or just knowing the next high-tech gadget to be unveiled. He helped develop and plant the first commercial pecan orchards in the Pecos Valley, and truly enjoyed the science and risk of far ming. His entrepreneurial nature led him to participate in many diverse business ventures during his career, such as Feathers Jewelry, POISE Computer Software Co., Rod-Ric Drilling and Manzano Oil Corp. Joe was a religious man who felt it was far better to live your Christian values than to proclaim them. He was a hard, diligent worker who loved negotiating whatever deal was next. He was blessed in his business efforts, specifically Featherstone Development Corp. and Featherstone Farms Inc., and was a generous supporter of many local causes. Most of his giving was anonymous and geared toward helping children in tough situations. Dear to his heart was the Chaves County CASA Program and all the difficult work they accomplish to provide better environments for children to grow and mature. Joe also believed that adults and young adults who were hard workers and thirsty for knowledge should have the opportunity to obtain education and professional training. Since the 1990s, Joe assisted many local individuals obtain college degrees in everything from business, to veterinary science, to the seminary. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Olen and Martha (Sopp) Featherstone; and his in-laws Charlie and Velma (Givan) Stone. He is survived by his
