I hope this letter finds you well rested and ready for your next adventure! As I write this introduction to the 2023/2024 Program Guide, I find myself reminiscing on our previous Girl Scout year; older girls explored pathways to success through the College and Career Corner and Highest Awards, our youngest Girl Scouts made new friends at the Daisy Day Camp, and girls of all ages explored science, arts, environmental stewardship, and so much more in Badge and Journey workshops. Bringing our council together across county lines, our main stage Signature Events like AgriNation, Polar Express, and World Thinking Day connected our full membership to the communities around us and each other.
Over the past year, our GSCCS program team has carefully evaluated each event, keeping the feedback of our girls, volunteers, and parents at the center of our planning. In the pages of this guide, you’ll discover exciting new events and the return of beloved fan favorites like AgriNation, Trailblazers, SciGirls, Polar Express, and more! Each event and program has been curated to connect girls to one another, themselves, and the world around them through immersive experiences in Outdoors, STEAM, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship.
Wondering what comes next in your Girl Scout story? Each troop is as unique as the girls who comprise them, and as a member of the largest girl-led organization in the world, the power is in your hands! As you gather with your troop and chart your next journey, this guide will be a powerful tool in your belt to plan, explore, and connect. I am so excited for this new year of programming and can’t wait to see you there!

Alexa’s Gold Award addressed the lack of cultural preservation for the Vietnamese community, especially the lack of knowledge surrounding the experiences of the Vietnamese boat people. Following the end of the Vietnam War, Vietnamese refugees fled the country due to poverty, war, and oppression between 1975 and 1995. Traveling on small boats, the "Vietnamese boat people" were susceptible to disease, starvation, dehydration, drowning, and attacks from pirates The boat people carried unique stories about their experiences fleeing Vietnam with them However, these stories are not widely known here in the United States despite being such integral pieces of Vietnamese, American, and world history. This group has struggled to retain their cultural heritage especially in the Central Valley where the Vietnamese community is very small. Alexa’s project centralized stories and connected this community to preserve and honor their culture.
The Girl Scouts of the USA Gold Award Scholarship recognizes one outstanding Gold Award Girl Scout per council whose project exemplifies the core components of the Gold Award. As a scholarship recipient, Alexa received:

• National recognition on the GSUSA 2023 Gold Award Class webpage
• Local promotion that highlights the impact of her Gold Award

Ready to engage with your community, grow your skills, and show Girl Scouts what it means to be unstoppable?
Then you’re ready to be a Troop or Service Unit volunteer
Troop volunteers help Girl Scouts become stronger, kinder, and braver than they ever thought possible. Troop leaders and volunteers in other roles, like Troop money manager or cookie chair engage regularly with their Girl Scouts and guide them through activities, like earning badges, exploring the outdoors, or running their own business through the Girl Scout Cookie Program
Service Unit volunteers are the network of support throughout your community. They empower Troop leaders and Troop volunteers to be the role models that Girl Scouts need and connect them with the resources for unforgettable Troop experiences.
If you want to get a snapshot of Troop life, you can find short-term volunteer opportunities both in-person and virtual and support local Girl Scouts as they pursue their passions.
The best part? There’s no one “type” of volunteer. If you believe that Girl Scouts can change the world, you belong here. Log on to our website at girlscoutsccs.org or contact Customer Care to find more information on volunteer opportunities available to you.
