Everyone in the National Hunt industry knows where they need to be in the third week of May: Doncaster, for the Goffs Spring Store Sale. The auction has been a popular fixture in the calendar for more than 60 years, thanks to the celebratory atmosphere as participants unwind and restock at the end of the jumps season, and in recent seasons it has risen to new heights. A British record price for a store was achieved in 2022 when Henrietta Knight gave £200,000 for an Adlerflug gelding from Ballincurrig House Stud, and there was another new high last year when Highflyer Bloodstock and Jerry McGrath spent £210,000 on a Blue Bresil filly from Goldford Stud.

In all, 25 lots have sold for six-figure sums in the last five renewals, and they have been bought by a wide range of industry figures. All the leading trainers in Britain, many accompanied by their owners, will be at the Goffs Spring Store Sale in Doncaster again in 2024, as will the increasingly influential point-to-point fraternity from both sides of the Irish Sea. So make sure you’re there with your best lots too.

The 2025 Spring Sale Bumper is now open to 4 & 5 year olds and will be held at Newbury’s jump season finale fixture on Saturday 22 March (subject to confirmation of the 2025 fixtures list by the BHA).
