BEDWETTlNG SOLUTlONS UK – Changing lives one dry night at a time At Bedwetting Solutions, they never underestimate the impact bedwetting has on the whole family. This is an incredibly common problem that rarely gets talked about, the children or teenagers feel ashamed and embarrassed, and the parents can often feel they are failing in some way. The majority of cases are hereditary and can be easily sorted. They hire out medical grade bedwetting alarms for use with children aged 6 and over. Along with the hire, they provide a full support package to guide parents through every step of the training. They have an NHS enuresis nurse on their team in an advisory capacity answering any questions that arise. So why hire instead of purchase? They only use Ramsey Coote Instruments alarms, they are hand built in Australia and have continued to research and develop their product since 1954 and are proud to operate at 95% success between 6-8 weeks of use. They always insist on a no obligation, free phone consultation before a hire to ensure their service is right for your child. So, if you have tried other alarms or medication and it hasn’t worked, please give them a call. T: 01189 813521 M: 07540 258583 W: www.bedwet.co.uk E: support@bedwet.co.uk

At the award-winning Green Park Day Nursery in Reading, children’s days are filled with exciting activities, planned around their personal interests and designed in line with Early Years Foundation Stage principles to ensure they are prepared with the knowledge and skills needed for their next steps in education. At the setting on South Oak Way, budding artists are born in messy creative play where paint and recycled materials are transformed into impressive works of art, and fledgling scientists, armed with magnifying glasses, study inhabitants in garden bug hotels and monitor the growth in planting beds, learning simple maths, science and the importance of good nutrition and exercise to healthy lifestyles. From nurturing early skills to supporting the transition to school, the team are dedicated to working with parents to ensure families get the very most out of their nursery experience. Green Park opened in 2004 and is part of the employee-owned Childbase Partnership. T: 0118 931 3115 E: greenpark.nursery@childbase.com

Complete Childcare prepares little ones for their next big step to primary school At Complete Childcare, their ‘School Ready’ Programme prepares your child for starting the big wide world of primary school. The programme is based on collaborative work with teachers from schools about what they want to see in children moving from pre-school to school. Children need to be able to recognise their name – not just in beautiful typeface but also as mummy writes it on the label on their coat! Their experienced staff plan activities to develop children’s knowledge about ‘Big School’ covering a range of activities and topics giving them the emotional and practical skills they need to make a smooth transition to school. The lead up to starting primary school can be an anxious time for both children and parents, but they help to build self-confidence so the children face new challenges knowing that they will be fine! W: www.completechildcare.co.uk

Respiratory illness in children – what to look out for and where to seek further help The NHS is seeing an increase in children with coughs, colds and respiratory conditions with further increases being expected in winter months. Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms such as a fever and cough. Paediatrician Dr Patrick Aldridge, from Frimley Park Hospital, said: “Most viral illnesses typically clear up within seven days, without the need for medical support. For most children, treatment with paracetamol and/or ibuprofen, with sugary fluids when they’re not eating, are usually enough to help. “I would encourage parents and carers to access the NHS Frimley Healthier Together website for up-to-date advice at their fingertips”. The website provides advice and support from GPs, Paediatricians and local healthcare professionals to help parents recognise what might be wrong. Each illness has a traffic light system to help parents manage their child’s symptoms at home, with red flags for when they might need to seek more specialist help, from their GP, 111 or visit the emergency department. Could you be a Short Breaks carer and make a real difference? West Berkshire Fostering and Disabled Children’s Team are currently seeking new carers who can offer Short Breaks to families of children with either physical disabilities, learning difficulties or mental health needs. If you have experience in medical or caring roles, are compassionate, patient and wish to develop your skills, you could make a great Short Breaks carer! Your time could allow parents of these young people a well-earned rest while you take care of their loved one. Hear from carers Abi and Tim about why Short Breaks works for them and their family: “As a young family we felt able and willing to support other families and children in our local community in need of some much-needed respite. As a couple we are passionate about offering a safe, loving home from home to others and feel that Short Breaks is a valuable experience not only for those we care for, but for our own children as well. We are able to fit the care we offer around our jobs and family commitments and have welcomed many different children into our home, which is always fun and rewarding.” If you feel you could take on a new challenge like Short Breaks, please get in touch with the Family Placement Team on 01635 503155 or fostering@westberks.gov.uk to speak to their dedicated recruitment social worker. Your call may #writethenextchapter for children in care in West Berkshire. Alternatively, visit their website: https://citizen.westberks.gov.uk/article/36491/Ask-About-Fostering

“We have welcomed a number of children to stay with us and be part of our family. Fostering is both rewarding and demanding – it takes lots of patience, attention, resilience and adaptability. We all work as one team together with our own teenage children who have been amazing at not only being open to fostering, but also playing an active role in supporting the children staying with us. We work closely with the fostering team and other professionals to advocate for those who have not had the best start in their lives. We can’t change the past, but we can be part of helping to create a more promising future.” For more information, email fostering@wokingham.gov.uk and they’ll call you back or visit W: fostering.wokingham.gov.uk
