Canyon Creek Craft Beer Club: Barrels of Fun! by Micah Scrogginthorpe

From Ale to Zwickelbier, the Cany on Creek Craft Beer Club loves their craft beer! Founded in 2014 by Liz Scrogginthorpe, the club started out with a handful of craft beer enthusiasts and has now grown to 150 members who live in and around Canyon Creek! “We are just people coming together socially through beer,” she says laughingly.
The club meets at least once monthly at local establishments that specialize in, or brew, craft beer. It is there that they try the latest seasonal selections and bond over beer. Some of the favored local spots are The Alamo Drafthouse, Haystack Burgers, Jack Macs, Shady’s, and even the Richardson Food Truck Park. The group also attends tastings, brewery tours, and various special events such as the Big Texas Beer Fest at Fair Park and the Untapped Music and Beer Festival.
Several local breweries have hosted CCCBC events and provided members with the opportunity to try new craft beers that have not

yet been largely distributed to the general public. Local brewery tours have included The Bitter Sisters Brewery, Tupps, Four Bullets, Lakewood, and the Oak Highlands Brewery.
A few members brew their own craft beers and have held special tastings in their homes or at block parties where the gatherings are quite lively and, in addition to the entertaining conversational humor, there is sometimes live entertainment in the form of local bands. And, as you might expect, there is always great food served to compliment the brews.
Members often share their personal experiences on the group’s Facebook page by taking snapshots of a particular beer and providing their personal rating. Many members are well traveled and have rated beers from all over the world. Members also recommend tours and establishments to be found wherever one goes. A wealth of information can be found on the group’s Facebook page including the aforementioned ratings, opportunities to assist home brewers on brewing day, scheduled events, and even tap lists of local restaurants.
Recently, the group started a Beer Exchange in which the members trade from their stock of beers thus allowing other members to try various styles without investing too much up front.
You need not be an expert on beer to join this group (but you should be at least 21!). If you simply enjoy a good craft beer, then you will enjoy being a part of this club! Although you might easily fi nd them at a local brewery, you might fi rst want to fi nd them on FaceBook (look for “Canyon Creek Craft Beer Club” on Facebook).
With the planned a brewery tours of Community and Four Corners on Oct 22nd, now is a great time to join!
