Crown preparation

Using cast (bind) on method of your choice, cast (bind) on 72 (84, 96, 108, 120) sts onto the circular needle. Join in the round, being careful not to twist sts. Place stitch marker to indicate start of round.

18in size only: *p2tog, P19; repeat from * to end. 80 sts. 22in size only: *P12, p2tog, P13; repeat from * to end. 104 sts.

Crown Brim Rnd 1: *K3, P3; repeat from * to end Repeat this round until brim measures 1 (1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2) in/2.5 (3.25, 3.75, 4.5, 5) cm.

Body Rnd 1: *K3, P9; repeat from * to end Repeat this round for a further 1 (1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2) in/2.5 (3.25, 3.75, 4.5, 5) cm until work measures 2 (2.5, 3, 3.5, 4) in/5 (6.25, 7.5, 9, 10.25) cm from cast (bind)-on edge. Work as follows: Next rnd: Purl all sts Repeat this round, forming reverse stocking (stockinette) stitch, for a further 1.5in/3.75cm until work measures 3.5 (4, 4.5, 5, 5.5) in/9 (10.25, 11.5, 12.75, 14) cm from cast (bind)-on edge.
