CHYDAN denounces northern elite over insurgency Stories : Leonard Okachie

C

hampions Youths Development Association of Nigeria, CHYDAN, has revealed that the insurrection of Boko Haram insurgency rocking few states in the North was as a result of the ‘’Devilish Behaviours and Many Sins’’ of some northern elite who have woefully failed to deliver on the basic test of leadership. The youth group, which has millions of membership spread across the country, said this at the just concluded two day official inauguration of its 776 local government coordinators, 36 state coordinators, zonal coordinators in the six geo-political zones, some elected national executive members officers in was held in Abuja FCT Abuja. CHYDAN in a statement said: “We remind the northern elite once more that poverty, illiteracy, economic and social ruin, sectarian massacres and religious extremism are the chickens they hatched coming home to roast. Some of the ungodly northern elites vowed to make Nigeria ungovernable if Jonathan became president. Now, who is to be blamed?” “Each state of the federation has an elected state governor and a complete set of elected lawmakers in the state house of assembly who are collectively charged with the responsibility of controlling and managing all the state affairs. “In the House of Representatives and the National Assembly, the northerners are the majority. 75% of Jonathan cabinet mem-

bers are from the north. What serious efforts have these set of leaders made to bring an end this issue of insurgency in their state? All we see every day is public looting of our resources and siphoning them abroad for personal gains.” Since Nigeria gained independence in 1960, the northerners have ruled Nigeria for over 35 years, what have we achieved for all these years of occupying highly exalted positions? Poverty and illiteracy is the order of the day in the north. The northern youths are dying every day in their numbers with all sorts of malnutrition and diseases without any possible solution from their leaders. Ninety per cent of the northern youths are jobless and homeless. They have no choice than to do all sorts of dehumanizing and rubbish jobs just to survive. The association regretted that some senseless and hopeless youths have made themselves willing tools of violence in the hands of these evil perpetrators who will only use them for their selfish gains and finally dumped them like refuse. It restated that northern elite have completely failed the northern region and it takes only the intervention of oriented northern youths to restore peace, unity and progress of the north. Founder of CHYDAN, Umaru Bameyi noted that majority of the northern elite are nothing but empty heads, stressing that if the Federal Government is sincere towards ensuring peace in Nigeria, all those unpatriotic northern sycophants surrounding Jonathan should be removed immediately and replaced with those who are

Boko Haram suspects.

more interested in serving their people than their pockets. Jonathan is living in the mist of his political enemies who are in the same political party with him and these set of people are really working against his administration. “Of course, Jonathan is in a better position to address this issue of insurgency but the northern elite have completely failed to deliver on the basic test of leadership and as such, they lacked mor-

al right to issue any ultimatum to him”, Bameyi maintained. Board of Trustees Vice Chairman of CHYDAN, Comrade Ya’u Musa Sakabe, stated that the north needs robust leadership and selfless elite, noting that the greatest mistake of the northern elite was to totally neglect education. “They are now hiding behind religion and politics to deprive their children the vital tool that frees all human beings.

The killings, abduction and destruction of properties in the north are all political game,” he insisted. Board of Trustee Secretary of CHYDAN, Lynda Amaka Nweke who is also Legal Practitioner warned all the Nigerian leaders to stop making provocative utterances that could fuel insurgency in the country. South-West Coordinator of CHYDAN, Comrade Sherif Abiodun described the northern lawmakers mostly in the State House of Assembly as the real enemies of the northern region and the present administration of President Jonathan. He urged them to stop their evil impeachment plot against an elected governor and be concerned in finding solution to political Boko Haram insurgency in their region.
