Party The 710 Chronicle Presents... Arizona's first and only medical marijuana newspaper launch party, this Sunday, 7/10, from 3 - 11 p.m. This event will be like no other cannabis-related event in the state, with the biggest entertainment lineup of its kind, including live glass blowing, fire dancing, comedy and 14 bands and rappers. You do not need a medical marijuana card to attend this awesome event. And yes, you can smoke pot there. You have to be 18 to attend the party and we'll have a full bar for the 21+ crowd. In addition to the entertainment, there will be 50 vendors onsite, a handful of food trucks and the best, hand-picked farmer's market food vendors. We've got your munchies covered. About the Venue The Pressroom is a 14,000 square foot, brick building that used to be a huge printing press for newspapers, making it the perfect spot for our newspaper launch party. It also has large outdoor patio areas with misters, fans and smoking areas. Located in the downtown warehouse district at 441 W. Madison St, it's six blocks to the light rail and easily accessible from major highways. Rock, Reggae, Rap and More Three bands headline the show. The Black Bottom Lighters will burn up the stage with their unique desert-reggae rock. Afroman is a famed hip-hop recording musician, best known for the hit single "Because I Got High." And rapper Chucky Chuck, aka DGAF, will be there even though he "still don't give a fuck." Jeffrey Peterson, also know as "the 420 Comic," will have a lot of weed jokes, making fun of the stereotype of being a pot head. The 420 Comic is coming in from Las Vegas and will have you laughing all the way to Stonerville. Property Six is a rap 'n' roll group from Phoenix, with a unique style that brings together six different elements of music.

Other great bands and DJ's include Uproot, Skywriter, Supa Joint, BSmiley, DieNasty, Twansack, KnocTurn'al, DJ Havoc, Lil Drawz, Sharp the Emcee and I Am Hologram. Fire and Glass In addition to the main stage, we'll have two more entertainment areas for fire dancers and glass blowers. Fire dancers from The Flow Shop will perform three times in between music breaks. With their own booth and entertainment area, they'll be selling their juggling and fire dancing gear, hula hoops, glow toys and festival fashion. Glass blowers from Glass Magic will be blowing pipes, bongs and art. The group is made up of five family members with a combined 100 years' experience blowing glass. Patrons can make a custom request, watch them make it and take it home with them. Munchies and Thirst Quenchers Check out the food trucks for the best quesadillas, tacos and burritos, killer grilled cheese sandwiches, and melt in your mouth ice cream and Italian ice. We've also recruited the best farmers' market vendors in the area, so expect to be wowed! Even More Doctor Sam from the Medical Marijuana Card Certification Center in Arizona will be there, and another doctor will be doing certifications on-site. Mary Jane Smokewear will be there, along with tons of other vendors. About a hundred lucky attendees will get a "Dope Sack" tote bag full of goodies. Tickets cost $7.10 in advance and $15 at the door. One dollar from each ticket sale goes to MedVets - a non-profit veteran suicide prevention and wellness organization. Come join us, 7/10, for the party of the summer!

CBD: the Next Best Thing Honoring Arianna Continued from cover or a Hidden Agenda? by Rachelle Ferraro

Although cannabis contains over 400 compounds, THC and CBD and are the most prevalent. Both cannabinoids are proven to have significant medical benefits, including pain relief, tumor reduction, anti-nausea and anti-inflammation. CBD, however, does not have the euphoric properties of THC. Simply put, CBD does not "make you high." For that reason, CBD has become popular and is currently receiving attention by researchers in the medical community. That focus has peaked interest elsewhere. "CBDhigh" strains of the plant are being actively bred to accommodate higher demand for the ameliorative effects of CBD. Big pharmaceutical companies (who appear to have acknowledged that synthetic cannabis products do not have the same effect as the plant itself) have jumped on the band wagon and are at work creating and growing the market for their CBD extract drugs. Studies, however, have revealed that despite literature to the contrary, CBD is not more effective without THC. Instead, the whole plant has a synergistic effect creating the most therapeutic benefit. While each part of the plant has specific healing properties, when combined they create what the scientific community has termed an “entourage effect.” Therefore, marketing CBD as a treatment without THC misses half the boat. Taking that position, however, allows those proponents to cater to the political agendas of anti-cannabis advocates. We cannot expect the FDA (who still refuses to acknowledge any medical benefit from cannabis) or the DEA (who still propagandizes that cannabis is a "stepping stone" to other illegal drugs despite a federally funded study to the contrary), to correct the fallacy that THC is the "evil" psychoactive by-product of the cannabis plant. Because anti-cannabis proponents span different facets of society, literature hailing CBD as the next best thing should be closely scrutinized. Mother Nature knew what she was doing and science is confirming the medical impact of the whole cannabis plant is greater than the sum of its parts.

condition, finding a way to give her the best quality of life became his mission. When Arianna was 18-monthsold, she had her first tonic–clonic seizure. During a tonic-clonic seizure the patient loses consciousness, and then their muscles relax and contract rapidly, causing convulsions. Within minutes, paramedics arrived and Arianna was rushed to the emergency room. After about two months of seeing specialists and running tests, she was diagnosed with tuberous sclerosis. Tuberous sclerosis is a rare genetic disease that leads to noncancerous tumors developing in the body - usually the brain, heart, lungs, kidneys, eyes and skin. In Arianna's case, the tumors in her brain were causing seizures and delayed development. Medication was the first option. Arianna was on numerous antiseizure medications, prescribed by one of the top neurologists in the area. They were helping, but at 2-years-old, she was still having seizures and tantrums. That's when Jacob dove into finding another way to help his daughter. As a manager of a local cultivation and production facility with vast experience breeding genetics, Jacob now had a vested interest in his helping his daughter. And he knew that CBD was the key. Jacob researched and reached out to other cultivators to find the best CBD, specifically to help his daughter. What he eventually found was a tincture of CBD that would lead to Arianna being seizure free and back on track developmentally. Through Jacob's experience and passion for plant breeding, genetics and genomics, he developed the winning 2016 Errl Cup CBD strain, named "Arianna," to honor his daughter and their family's journey.

DVT-Importance of Testing Phoenix Tribal Nights

As the medical marijuana industry grows, how do you really know what you are ingesting? The answer is testing. Testing opens up a world of knowns in order for you to make educated decisions on what you are using for specific ailments, and what you are additionally putting in your body. With tests available to find out potency, terpenoids, microbial, pesticide, and residual solvents, you are able to see what is really in your medication. Potency profile testing provides you with the information you need to understand the benefits you are receiving in each strain specific combination of cannabinoids. Studies have found that the differing levels of these compounds will determine how effective a particular cannabis strain is for treating a patient’s specific symptoms. THC, THC-A, CBD, CBD-A, CBN, THC-V, and CBG are a few of the cannabinoids tested for by Desert Valley Testing (DVT). The unique smell of cannabis is not from cannabinoids, but instead from terpenoids. Terpenoids, or terpenes, are the essential oil of the plant and are currently being studied for several anti-cancer benefits. While many growers and dispensaries take care to provide a safe, effective product, there are reports of pesticides, residual solvents and molds present in purchased medicine. Residual solvents are the solvents that remain in various cannabis concentrates after the extraction process. These can then be ingested by users. DVT currently analyzes for the following solvents: Isopentane, Propane, Acetone, Isobutane, Ethane, Ethanol, Heptane, Hexane, Butane, and 2- Propanol. Although most facilities do not use pesticides on cannabis products, chemical reactions can occur without knowledge and can create harmful combinations on the plant. Only testing will let you know what is remaining in your product. The most common error is not knowing to ask for test results. Although testing is not regulated or mandated in AZ, most facilities are testing their products. Ask, and you shall receive.

by: Dylan Lenz The acclimate architecture that composes the culture of community, is entirely dependent on the individuals willing to contribute in its’ creation, and evolution. Phoenix Tribal Nights has exceeded all expectation on their soft-opening last Friday night. With droves of community leaders, vendors, innovators, visionaries, and members that came together for a collective expression of love, learning, and spiritual development. Phoenix Tribal Nights truly exemplifies the unique quality of community one can expect to encounter here in Phoenix. Andrew Young, the CEO of Spray-N-Relief, and main facilitator of PTN, urges that the “credit be given to the Phoenix community, without which, none of this would have been possible.” The idea behind PTN is to create an alternative to the usual bar/club scene, every month, where alcohol is prohibited, and illegal activities are discouraged. Instead, they are replaced with a multitude of unique, and inspiringly healthy activities. With an agenda beginning at 6pm, and running all the way to 3am, one can expect a truly dynamic experience of consciously enlightening activities that will last all night. The two simultaneously stimulating environments include the Movement Playground, and the Decompression Room. Of which activities can range from Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Inspirational/Motivational Talks, and Contact Improv Workshops. Other activities include Sound Healing, Elements of Aesthetic Dance, as well as, the local DJs that can be seen spinning music all night in both areas. Not to mention, local artists highly skilled in wire-wraps, uniquely acquired stones or gems, flow toys, and beautiful paintings are always available for purchase from on-site vendors. Phoenix Tribal Nights is truly a unique culmination of community members working collectively to contribute their individual talents, and passions. No matter where you fit into the community, there is an experience for you to enjoy when Phoenix Tribal Nights makes its’ official grand opening next month.

Afroman

Continued from cover

The song sold 400 copies, to both students and teachers, and a career was born. Prior to this, Afroman had played both drums and guitar in church, but this first recorded song was what solidified his musical path. By using an inexpensive microphone, a tape deck and a mixer, all gifts from his parents to keep him out of trouble, Afroman began recording songs about his life, using humor and wit to engage his audience. In the beginning of his career Afroman took his music to events and functions all over California, including low rider shows and Venice Beach, in order to expose people to his sound. When he was 24 years old, Afroman released his first album titled My Fro-losophy and shortly thereafter moved from California to Mississippi. Two years later Afroman released his most famous song But Then I Got High, which was initially circulated through concerts and via online downloads but later became a world-wide hit and was showcased in pop culture in movies and TV shows. This song details Afroman’s hilarious misadventures due to smoking marijuana and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2002.After the success of But Then I Got High, Afroman continued to release albums including The Good Times, Afroholic…The Even Better Times, Drunk ‘N’ High, Jobe Bells and A Colt 45 Christmas, performed with artists like Cypress Hill, Method Man and the Deftones, and continues to perform concerts all across the country. As an artist Afroman has tried to focus on the fun and lighter side of life and provide his fans with music they can simply enjoy. He has incorporated early rap elements and styles with modern day attitudes and agendas that keep fans coming back for more.

such a way that it would grab everyone's attention no matter what genre of music they preferred. Forming in Phoenix, AZ, the original "six" came together and forged a path through Arizona’s scene that, with the release of their first album For Sale P6 began to create a name for themselves by locally playing with national hip-hop and rock acts such as Curtis Blow, 2LiveCrew, Digital Underground, Hot Action Cop, and KRS ONE. P6 then began a 42 city tour with Arizona’s own Phunk Junkeez and gained further recognition nationwide for their unique performance and sound. September, 2006, P6 released their second full-length album entitled Stop the Press. The music video for the album's title track drew even more attention by showcasing government and media corruption. In 2008, P6 signed a distribution deal for Stop the Press with Latin Thug Records (now part of SHP Records) & Koch Distribution. In the fall of 2011, P6 embarked on a tour with Skatterman and Krayzie Bone. Dubbed the “Back in Session” Tour. In 2012 P6 dropped their 3rd full length album entitled Mind Control. This album fuses different elements of hip hop and rock to create a fresh new approach to the sound. P6 has released two limited edition singles from this album. One is the title track “Mind Control” and the other song, entitled “Let’s Get Loco” features a verse by Sen Dog of Cypress Hill. Mind Control was released in 2015. Members have come and gone from P6, but the original mentality remains in its current incarnation. If one thing has stayed with P6 in its existence it was to continue making entertaining and unique music.

HotRock SupaJoint Skywriter by Nicholas Ruppert

by Dylan Lenz Indiscriminately leaf-loving lyricist, Phoenix’s own, live and homegrown homie HotRock SupaJoint hits bongs, vapes, and finally the stage for 710 Chronicle’s Release Party. Stocked, stoked, and ready to toke is the mindset of the madman we’ve all come to know and love. Whether it is his politically active all-green lifestyle, his three albums of music, a dvd, or his 10+ music videos it’s hard to forget one of Phoenix’s most recognizable Heroes of the Hemp. Some would say that just knowing this character is an experience in itself. We are reminded how this man, who in one month, rewrote and filmed the cult classic indie movie “Fakest,” after being motivated by receiving the cover of New Times Phoenix. HotRock never seems to fail at making us laugh, love, and listen. His uniqueness comes from a colorful history and respect for music along all genres starting in the early 90’s with Cypress Hill. HotRock is excited to see what his newest project will produce since he is aiming towards a holistic new-age vibe. If you see a whirlwind of long black curls blazing through a haze of billowing bong smoke, you can count on it being the one and only HotRock SupaJoint.

They feature many local artisans who make clothing, toys and all kinds of gear for your celebrations and fantastic events. They have new designs by @cospacevera and @firelight fashions for the bold and adventurous clothier. Whether it’s poi spinning, hula hoop, devil sticks or flow wand they have what you want for your personal journey of fun and amusement.

I got a chance to do an interview with the infamous Phoenix native and musician Skywriter OG. He just goes by Skywriter, but he said there is actually a strain named after him called Skywriter OG, so that’s what I shall call him, 710 Chronicle style. St. Nicholas: What is your favorite venue to play in? Skywriter OG: I’ve really enjoyed The Pressroom the last couple times I’ve been there. It’s been a nice place. Come see The 710 Chronicle newspaper release party, July 10th, 3pm11pm at The Pressroom. I’m doing my stand-up set there as well. St. Nicholas: What is your favorite strain to be on while just living life? Skywriter OG: Some Lemon Haze is always good. I like anything with terps, if I’m rolling up flower, enjoying the Lemon Tree, the Gelato, the strains from the bay, those burner cookie strains. I was on tour last year and got hooked on those flavors.

I Am Hologram I Am Hologram is a musical force who brings new meaning to the term "one-man band". In a genre all of his own, this digital/analog hybrid plays guitar and sings, while programming a drum machine with his right foot and utilizing a synthesizer with his left foot. This self-proclaimed "anomaly" prefers to be referred to as a composer rather than a musician or even an artist. Recently, I Am Hologram's debut album, Rejecting the Program, was included in the Top 16 Albums of 2016 So Far in the Phoenix New Times. To find I Am Hologram's music you only need to Google the name. You will find his music and information about I Am Hologram on Facebook, Tumbler, Twitter, Soundcloud, Mixcloud, Bandcamp, Instagram, YouTube, and even on Iamhologram.com. This 30+ year veteran of music first burst onto the scene in early 2015, and is quickly becoming a household name in the local music scene. The Marijuana Minute

by Kevin Gassman

The recent news of the Arizonans for Mindful Regulation’s (AZFMR) decision to pull out of the legalization race was shocking to say the least. The move has now made The Marijuana Policy Project’s (MPP) version the lone name on the ballot for legalization in 2016. Please make sure you read their initiative before voting. It might be best to wait until 2018 or unless one of our representatives gets a backbone and drafts a bill for it sooner. Leaving it up to the people to decide on how to run recreational marijuana has been hit and miss so far. Colorado has been setting the “green standard,” but they’re not perfect. Recently a handful of homes were raided for illegal grows and they just banned gummy infused candy in the shape of animals, fruits or people, because, “what about the children?” The children will be fine, they’re on Ritalin!
