SENTIMENT Spanish midfielder Rodrigo provided the clinical finish to secure the win

BY GLORY DAYS While the Australian manager may dismiss his return to the Emirates as any other fixture, Glory Days' return has a sense of nostalgia and occasion but Spanish midfielder Rodrigo’s solitary header ensured the Australian manager left the plaudits. While his departure had a mixed reception, the Australian manager later admitted of his disillusion at the North London club which may have forced a break from management however when Chesterfield queried his availability, the Australian manager couldn't turn down an opportunity to save his first club from terminal debt and potential relegation. In his first season, Glory Days transformed the Spireites into genuine promotion contenders. The preceding five seasons have been eventful with one relegation and two promotions but like all Glory Days' teams, the Australian manager has instilled a stoicism

and resilience to Chesterfield however the front four of Willian Jose, Paco Alcácer, Rodrigo and Hakim Ziyech has added a dynamism and attacking flair to the outfit. There is familiarity with the current Arsenal team retaining nine players from the Glory Days’ era in the starting XI with captain Jereon Zoet, Stephan Coricha, Nicklas Stark, Neven Subotic, Phillip Max, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Inaki Williams, Dusan Tadic and Hulk. Perhaps it was fitting that one of Glory Days' riskier signings who provided the difference. While it may be ridiculous to suggest, at the time of signing Rodrigo, there were suggestions that losing defensive stalwart Matija Nastasic would come to haunt the club but the rest was history as Rodrigo produced one of the best individual performances to propel Chesterfield to their first ever promotion to the Championship.

& OCCASION JUNE 2018 ISSUE NO.3

AS GLORY DAYS RETURNS TO THE EMIRATES

Evolution rather than revolution similar to Arsenal, Glory Days transformed Chesterfield from a counter-attacking outfit into a possession-based team with an attacking flair. This was reflected on the day as the Spireites controlled 60 percent of possession and forced the Gunners’ rear-guard into defensive errors, drawing a foul in an opportune position. Deadball specialist Hakim Ziyech delivered an enticing cross into the penalty area which as powered home by a glancing header of Rodrigo. While a delicate, glancing header, it was well-directed and provided just reward for Chesterfield’s early dominance.

Despite their first half dominance, Chesterfield were unable to extend their advantage, thanks largely to the efforts of Arsenal captain Jeroen Zoet. However, goalkeeping compatriot Salvatore Sirigu maintained his purple patch with a string of superb saves in the dying stages of the match to preserve his clean sheet including a well-timed block to deny Arsenal striker Lar Stindl where the Italian timed his closing down to a tee, closing down Stindl’s angle to shoot. Not to be understated but as the final whistle blew, Glory Days had a quiet fist pump to himself. While challenging for promotion may not be the top priority, Chesterfield are mixing it with the best of them however greater challenges lay ahead of a long campaign. After the final whistle, Arsenal midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson embraced his former manager who gave him a platform and an opportunity to shine however on the day, it was Glory Days who shone the brightest.

TOTD POINTS THE POINTS SYSTEM EXPLAINED IN FULL The TEAM OF THE DAY (TOTD) Points System was launched this season to help find the real TOTD so I will try to explain.

HOW IT WORKS Basically the players who earn the highest points in their respective positions are the only players' to have a chance to get into TOTD. The players' with the highest points are considered - we then look deeper at their actual performance. Points are given for each position and we have: GOALKEEPER DEFENDERS MIDFIELDERS STRIKERS.

GOALKEEPER POINTS RATING = MATCH RATING MAN OF THE MATCH = +1 point CLEAN SHEET = +1 point GOALS AGAINST = -1 point each GA BONUS RATING 9 = +1 point BONUS RATING 10 = +2 points If two Goalkeepers are level with say 10 points each we then use the IN ORDER

Which is under the CRITERIA USED area. Say both keepers have 9 points like this KEEPER "A" rated 8 with CLEAN SHEET 8 +1 = 9 points KEEPER "B" Rated 9, mom, 2 goals against, 9 +1 -2 +1 bonus rat 9 = 9 points Different scenarios but same points. So, we use the IN ORDER criteria for GOALKEEPERS. THE order being RAT, CLEAN SHEET/GOALS AGAINST, MOM, So, Keeper "B" gets in TOTD because the order was RAT first and he was rated 9 whereas keeper "A" was rated 8. If both GK's have the same RAT, CLEAN SHEET, MOM we then use the YELL/RED/SUB to decide which means if one of the players got a yellow card then he would NOT get in TOTD If still level we use match result ie WIN, LOSE, DRAW. - If still level we judge by team positions in the table before the match started.

TOTD POINTS THE POINTS SYSTEM EXPLAINED IN FULL

HOW IT WORKS DEFENDER POINTS RATING = MATCH RATING MAN OF THE MATCH = +1 Point GOALS SCORED = +2 Points each goal. ASSISTS = +1 Point each assist CLEAN SHEET = +1 Point GOALS AGAINST = -1 point each GA BONUS RATING 9 = +1 Point BONUS RATING 10 = +2 Points If two Defenders are level with say 8 points each we then use the IN ORDER Which is under the CRITERIA area. Say both Defenders have 8 points like this. DEFENDER "A" AND DEFENDER "B" are Rated 7 with CLEAN SHEET 7+1 = 8 points ie both have same criteria. So, we use the IN ORDER for DEFENDERS The order being: RAT,CLEAN SHEET/GOALS AGAINST, MOM

YELLOW CARD = -1 point RED CARD = -2 points SUBBED = -1 point Going through this we find that player "B" was yellow carded - so player "A" Gets into TOTD.

MIDFIELD & STRIKERS RATING = MATCH RATING MAN OF THE MATCH = +1 Point GOALS SCORED = +2 Points each goal ASSISTS = +1 Point each Assist BONUS RATING 9 = +1 Point BONUS RATING 10 = +2 Points We use same procedure used for GK & DEF however, GOALS SCORED are first, not RAT. If we have ONE player with highest points he gets into TOTD. 2 players or more with same points we go deeper using the points system, yell/red/sub or DEADLOCK DEADLOCK is WIN,LOSE,DRAW , still level we use league positions before match started,

You'll notice that both players are exactly the same using IN ORDER criteria so we BY ADMIN-CRAIG use Yell/Red/Sub to decide.

JUNE 2018 ISSUE NO.3

TEAM OF THE DAY HOW TO GET A PLAYER INTO THE TOTD

POINTS As explained in the TOTD POINTS SYSTEM players with the HIGHEST POINTS are the candidates. Remember, The TOTD has the BEST players' from each week and it's very difficult to get a player into TOTD. However, first of all you must have a decent performance by your team in order to gain more points for each player. You see, if your team win 3-0 this gives your GK & DEFENDERS a Clean Sheet earning more points. If your DEFENDERS SCORE and/or have ASSIST(S) this will also add to their points tally. (Man of the Match also helps). PLUS, the 3 goals scored is really helpful to MIDFIELD & STRIKERS if they score 1 ,2 or maybe a Hat-trick.

We must determine who gets in by the criteria used. The POINTS being the main criteria because this judges the players' overall match performance. If one player has say 10 points and no other player has 10 points in his position then he will get into TOTD. If we have 2 or more players tied we then use the IN ORDER If still tied, we then use the Yell/Red/Sub scenario, still level - we use DEADLOCK. Basically, your player needs as much POINTS as possible, no booking, no red card and not get substituted incase we use YELL/RED/SUB criteria. Also, an advantage would be to WIN your match incase we use DEADLOCK to determine the outcome. DEADLOCK - WIN, LOSE, DRAW Still level we look at league positions of each team before the match started.

EXPRESS INTERVIEW: MARCOS VITORINO - NEWCASTLE MANAGER

BY MARCOS VITORINO [EC7046 Blog] Ladies and gentlemen, EC7046 blog have the pleasure to be here today with Marcos Vitorino, the present boss of Newcastle United. Hello Marcos, I’m going to start by asking what does EC7046 mean to you? [Marcos Vitorino] Hello, thanks for having me here. For me EC7046 is one of those special setups within SM. I left two times, but I couldn’t resist to come back. For me, the main reason to be here is the people. There are loads of quality managers, some are in SM since forever, this makes the GW very tough and challenging. The communication is also another important part of SM for me, and here you can always find a thread to engage with. [EC7046 Blog] What’s your story with Newcastle?

[MV] I managed Barnsley for 82 games and I left. Then I managed Wigan for 71 games and I left again. I then joined for good and was 175 games with Wolves I liked the project a lot, but after a quite long period with them, and having failed promotion for 3 seasons, I looked to a Division 4 Newcastle as THE perfect challenge. Something that definitely caught my attention, is the fact that I’m only the third manager ever of this team! [EC7046 Blog] Would you prefer to be managing another team? [MV] Definitely no. [EC7046 Blog] Do you have a “special derby” with any of the managers in EC7046? Anyone that gives you a special pleasure to win against?

EXPRESS INTERVIEW: MARCOS VITORINO - NEWCASTLE MANAGER

BY MARCOS VITORINO CONT'D

[MV] I know most of the managers in the GW since long ago. At a certain point in time, during the past years, we’ve been in contact for this or that reason – via PM, FB, chat... I do not have any rivalry in place I believe, of course I like to win against Garry Crawford – He stole me Rod Fanni in 2012!! It’s not exactly true, but it’s a good excuse. [EC7046 Blog] What’s your favorite football player of the moment? [MV] My current favorite player is Bruno Fernandes from Sporting. You can say I’m looking at him with my Sportingness, but he is indeed an incredible player. [EC7046 Blog] And what’s your Newcastle favorite player?

[MV] My Newcastle is a work in progress, and I believe it will be for a long time. I still didn’t manage to bring any of my favourite players. Anyway I have some expectations around some of them, like Rolando Mandragora, Rafa Soares or Zé Rafael. [EC7046 Blog] What goals do you have for this season? [MV] My main goal for the season is to reshape and refresh the team. With a sensible cash management, I would like to bring in some lower rated players with potential. The idea is to wait for them to evolve, make money and repeat the process! Is it compatible with a good League performance? I still don’t know, and for now I don't really care. [EC7046 Blog] Thanks for this express interview and good luck for the season. [MV] Thank you.
